An updated Steam game list entry*:

games I own )

~

games on my wishlist )

I have not included the soundtracks on my wishlist, as they are obviously not games.

~

*One day, I will make a list of all the games I own in physical format, but today is not that day.
Some things, a list:

# it feels very autumnal this morning, and I am absolutely loving it!

# It was a good job I impulsively bought that heated airer, because the other morning, literally as I was about to go out of the door to work, my other (non-heated) airer broke on one side!

So I had to prop it up on some stuff, so that the wet washing wasn't touching the floor. I hoped it wouldn't collapse entirely while I was out of the house, and it did not, and I was pleased about that.

But yeah, that was a good call on past me's part!

# I have started rewatching the X-Men films because of partly spurious reasons (that you don't get to know), and partly because I dunno, it's been a while since I watched them last, and I haven't seen the more recent ones - I only got as far as Days of Future Past last time, despite buying Apocalypse at the time (I have had to buy Dark Phoenix, and I also got New Mutants, so now I feel my collection is complete :D )

I have a lot of nostalgia for the first film, but it is Not Good. The writing is awful, apart from a couple of lines here and there, and I spent some of the time wondering how some of the cast (primarily Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen) could say some of that with a completely straight face (but I guess that's why they call it acting, right? ;) - turns out I made exactly the same comment when I watched it ten years ago, lol ). That said, "I saved your life!" "No, you didn't." and "You ain't part of the group." have lived rent free in my head for the last twenty odd years, so...eh.

I feel X2 is better written and better paced, but I still feel like there's too much going on at once. I think they should have picked one thing and stuck to it rather than trying to cram two stories in there and added Phoenix stuff out of nowhere.

I have mixed feelings about how I will feel about X3, but I'll cross that bridge when I eventually get to it

# I have managed to finally make a tangible change in the house wrt redecorating! \o/ it's about bloody time!! I have new carpeting on the landing upstairs, which is probably a mistake because I haven't sorted the walls out yet (whether painting or wallpapering), but whatever. It is A Thing, and I did it, and I am stupid proud of myself!

# Nobody cares that I am playing Umamusume: Pretty Derby, but I wanted a list of my current wins, so I'm slapping it under a cut here:

# I've got nothing else for the time being, I haven't really had a lot of time outside of work to do anything even remotely interesting. But perhaps that will change, who knows!
So I finally bit the bullet and bought myself some Loop earplugs. I've been whiffling about it for almost a year now, so I finally went and did it.

Unfortunately, I will probably not be able to use them for the specific reason I bought them (work) as, even though they say they should stay in place, I don't want to risk losing them or be told to take them out by my line manager*. But I can at least have them with me for noisy times that aren't work (e.g. social situations/commutes/shopping, etc).

I do find it kind of hilarious that, for someone who is as noisy as I am**, I am SO noise-sensitive, though (and I swear it's getting worse as I get older).

Anyway, I was hoping they'd arrive today, but apparently they're coming tomorrow, so I guess at least I will have the Easter weekend to get used to them?

*Because I work in an environment with food, there's a lot of restrictions on what we are/aren't allowed to wear. I also can't have my nails painted, because they might chip, and that Irks Me Greatly.

**I was frequently told by both parents to shut up/be quiet when I was a child, and friends when I was younger used to note how loud I was, for example.

~

I started playing a solo RPG called Over the Mountain. It is not one of the ones from that bundle I bought the other day, merely a free one I found while noodling around on itch some time later.

It is going to take me forever to finish, assuming I want to finish it. I'm unsure at the moment; every time I put it down, I'm like, ehhhhh, but when I pick it up again, I'm kind of interested. I suppose the world building I am having to do is grating on me a little - it should ease off once I've got all the elements in place, though. I'm not saying it's not a good game; I am just having issues with my writing abilities still.

(Though it is making me think about making zines again, which is good! Because I have yet to finish a single one I've thought of - I think this is where I have imposter syndrome, weirdly. I feel like my offerings aren't good enough and yet the entire point of a zine is that it doesn't need to be polished and shiny. It just needs to exist).

~

Finally, I originally typed out the entire lists for my itch collections, but given the TTRPG list is nearing 150 items at the time of writing, I thought it more pertinent to reduce it to links instead, and you can click on whatever you think may be interesting to you? Final Fantasy XII was nineteen years old on the 16th, and I do not like it. How DARE my favourite game be that old!

I may have to replay it, but let's honest, when am I not thinking about replaying it?

(I mean also TWEWY is eighteen this year as well, but time is absolutely bullshit nonsense, right?)

~

I was thinking about posting my Steam games list/wishlist on here just so I had somewhere that didn't require me to log into Steam to look at it, so here they are:

games list )

wishlist )

And now I've done this I might make another entry with my itch.io and GOG lists in, but that can wait for another day.
I feel like a lot of what is going on in my life is truly fucking boring at the moment, and no-one wants to hear about it, which is why I'm not posting so much of late.

On the other hand: I had an idea the other day for music posts for my ko-fi which, if posted once a month, would last me for almost a year! I even then went and put the lists together last night instead of playing FFXIII-2 because I was so excited about it.

(Sometimes I have ideas and immediately lose interest to a large degree, viz: me analysing Manics lyrics. Although I kind of still want to do that, but it's only of immediate interest to me).

I need to tweak the lists a bit, but they should be ready to go from September - I am taking a kind of hiatus from ko-fi through August, though there will still be a print for members, but that's it.

I think with everything that's happening at the moment, I just need a break from something, and ko-fi is the easiest thing to give up temporarily. So that's what I'm going to do. But I'm excited about the music recs posts! I don't know if anyone else is interested in them, but I like sharing music with people, so I'm going to continue making them.

But that's all really that's going on that is even vaguely interesting at the moment.

So, um, I, uh, have a PS4 now????

I got it free with my phone, which is mind-boggling and hilarious given that when we came into this year, my most recent Playstation was a PS2!

At the risk of repeating my question from February, any recs?

I have a list of games I want but can't afford, and three I own, handily behind this cut.

list! )

So that's a bigger list than I expected! But if you have any additions or comments on what I've listed, please comment! (Heads up: I like Survival Horror in principle, but I absolutely will not play it. Which is why I'm avoiding the RE2 remake like the plague, for instance, and will not touch RE7 ever).

~

I don't know if I had anything else to say, but if I did, it has fallen out of my head in all the excitement.

~

*I know, I know, I know, but maybe I'll end up liking it? *shrug emoji*

**Crash Bandicoot was my BFF's favourite game when we were teenagers and yet somehow I never managed to play it, so making up for lost time, I guess!
My life, as it currently stands, seems to be draining me of all energy, and awash with hormones at all other times. It also feels to be deathly boring because, while I was doing nothing much before, I am still doing nothing very much, just in a different way.

PFFT.

Anyway, I forgot to note when it happened, but I bought a used copy of Lucy on DVD and I watched it and it was terrible. I was so bored! Luc Besson is usually a much better story teller than this! There was way too much exposition and standing (or sitting) around while it happened. It felt like really wasted potential. Did I mention it was boring?

(I know there was a lot of hate when it came out, some of which I assumed was because it was a female lead and so on. I did not expect it to be flat out awful, however).

~

I seem to have done a lot of top 5 whatevers on twitter lately, so here they all are in one handy place:

vidya )

anything )

male vocalists )

female vocalists )

favourite tv shows of all time )

top 5 books of all time )

Bonus: three films that came out the year I was born:

Excalibur
Clash of the Titans
Time Bandits
If you are following me on twitter (you lucky people ;) ), you may have noticed that I've spent a lot of time recently tweeting about U2. And why would I not? They are my favourite band, after all. (Apparently they are described a lot these days as "your dad's favourite band" and, since I'm old enough to be someone's dad, I suppose that's accurate). I am going to spend this entry talking about them because I can, and because my mood is fucking foul right now, and U2 (mostly) make me happy.

To that end:

I watched Killing Bono earlier because I've had it on DVD for years and never touched it. A friend recommended it to me ages ago after she'd seen it, because she thought I might find it entertaining, if nothing else. The internet says it's hilarious, and I kind of side-eyed the internet, but they were right! (And the laughter isn't derived from the main character being an epic failure of a human being, though he is that for sure).

The story is based on a book by Neil McCormick, who had the misfortune to be at school with Bono. I say based, because the book's way more truthful about what actually happened. A lot of stuff in the film is either exaggerated, or outright fabricated (though I can see why; a certain spoiler being what actually happened would not work for the purposes of the narrative). I'm going to get the book so I can read it - I would have done eventually. I will buy books about U2 regardless of content, so I'm sort of surprised I haven't managed to pick this up somewhere before now.

Anyway, it's a good film, and it's not demanding. And it's OK if you're not into U2, because you don't need to know anything about them except that they got famous, Neil's band didn't, and Neil thinks that's a travesty. It feels very much like a British film to me (one user on the imdb described it as being like "a made for TV movie", but I get the impression they've maybe not seen many British films? We make shit differently over here, son). I liked that. Would easily watch it again.

~

I also tried to pick my twenty favourite songs by U2, and it went badly. There are seven honourable mentions, and I do not feel this is enough. I'm not even happy with what I've got in the twenty. I may shuffle it in the future. I have put it under a cut because it's a list. There are Youtube links where available.

Some of these videos have flashing lights/rapidly moving imagery, so please take care if you have epilepsy.

list of every demon I drew back in Oct 2015, for personal reference )

~

I rashly(?) bought myself a second-hand 2DS yesterday. It has been shipped, and should arrive Monday (by which time I might be at the dentist's so won't get it till Tuesday SIGH). Well, I think it should arrive then, because it's been sent by Special Delivery, and that takes two working days at most (and it was sent off this morning). According to the tracking, though, it hasn't even arrived at a sorting office, so it might be Tuesday anyway?? I just can't wait for it!

Anyway, it's not like I can't afford it right now, but I partly got it because I am feeling super horrible at the moment, and I always turn to spending money on Stuff I Like/Want when I feel like crap. I've got better at it over the years, but it's still quite a bad habit.

My mum doesn't know I've bought it, so I can't imagine she'll be too pleased when it does turn up. Not that it's her business what I spend my money on, but I imagine she'll at the very least look daggers at me like she did when I said about buying a cheapo tablet to read ebooks on. I didn't end up getting that because she made me feel really guilty for even thinking about it (I think the majority of that was actually my brain than anything she really said, but she didn't help any).

So the upshot is, even though I really want it, because there are a butt-ton of games I want to play on it, I feel really guilty about getting it. But, you know, it's been five years since I bought a console! The last one was the 360, for my thirtieth birthday.

Anyway. I am really excited to be getting it because SMT games! Kirbys! Old old school Pokemans! I can get Flipnote and make animations!!!! (I am SUPER excited about that because hi I am an animation nerd). Also there's some games available on the virtual console that I haven't played since I was a kid, so I am also super excited about those!

And there's Tomodachi Life! And Animal Crossing! Bravely Default! Other stuff I've forgotten, I'm sure!!

And essentially I'm just going to ask people for money when they offer me presents so I can buy games.

I think I probably should've bought a memory card, because it's second hand, so I don't know if it will have all the bits like it's meant to (I tried looking at the reviews, but they weren't helpful). Oh well, I guess we'll see when it turns up! (Whenever that is).
[profile] thebonesofferalletters asked for film recs, and I made an all-purpose list. I'm reposting it here in case anyone else is interested in what films I'd rec when/if my brain is working. (Although as I've said when asked before, checking through my general film tag is sometimes good because even if I didn't like a film, there's a chance you might??)

ze list! )

If you want to know more about any of 'em, you can ask and I will answer (though I feel like most people have seen most of the films on this list, or at least have heard of them/what they are about).

I also recced two films I didn't like, which were Ginger Snaps and Dog Soldiers, both of which are films about werewolves.

books: a list

Feb. 11th, 2014 11:28 am
muladhara: (reading)
Right, I am after books with male points of view, preferably YA.

So I've accrued myself a list so far (some of these are YA, some are adult), and this is what I've got:

- Easy - Tammara Webber (apparently this is awful)
- What I Was - Meg Rosoff
- Beastly - Alex Flinn
- Beautiful Creatures - Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl
- Night's Kiss - Amanda Ashley (vampires!)
- Dead To Me - Anton Strout (apparently this is terrible, and a knock-off of Harry Dresden. Which I didn't like, but hey ho. If it is a bad book I will read it, because apparently that's a thing I do)
- Nightlife - Rob Thurman
- The Fallen - Thomas E. Sneigoski (apparently this is also terrible but has angels, so IDK?)
- Among The Living - Jordan Castillo Price (this has a gay protag and his boyfriend)
- Something Like Normal - Trish Doller
- The Secret Year - Jennifer Hubbard
- Beautiful Disaster - Jamie McGuire (apparently this is awful AND the worst book ever. It's only on the list because I thought we owned it, but it seems we don't) (and actually it's the sequel - Walking Disaster - that's from the male POV, not this one BUT ANYWAY).
- Personal Effects - E.M. Kokie (this will allegedly make me cry)

I know nothing about any of these, except for what I read on Goodreads. Who tell me four of these books are awful (the one they all loved, I had no desire to read). And that Beautiful Disaster is the worst book ever (and boy can the author wank up a storm defending her point of view - she seems to be a proponent of Laurell K. Hamilton's mantra: "if you don't like it, don't read it.")

If you have any recs I can add to the list, that would be aces! (They don't have to be YA, and they most certainly don't have to be Urban Fantasy / Paranormal Romance (which some of the above are, some of them aren't. Though I think the ones that aren't are in the minority).

I'm going to the library in a bit. This could be really good, or it could be really bad.

I have been here for three years !!! o_o

I thought I joined in September 2010, but no, it was August.

*throws confetti*

I kind of can't believe that. It's SO WEIRD. Sometimes it feels like longer (I think because I've been using journalling sites for over ten years now), and sometimes it feels like less (three years? Seriously?)

It's not that important, I just thought that I would mark its passing.

~*~

I feel like this week's been a bit of a washout. But I think that's because I've been feeling super tired. Also, I didn't sleep so well last night (worried about ringing the doctor, I think), so it kind of all piled up today, and now I feel useless. I will feel better tomorrow, though. I know I will. I am certain of it.

~*~

Things to do:

# photograph some stuff
# block that bag I just finished
# start building a website (I may have to draw pictures and EVERYTHING so I can figure out what I want and where I want it)

Things I have done:

# blocked a shawl
# finished a bag
# almost finished my commission \o/

Original Character Masterlist

Last updated: 8/3/2013

This is mainly for personal reference, but if you're interested, feel free to take a look. I don't mind. You can see pictures of some of them here.

Please note that this post does not include player characters for games like Mass Effect or Dragon Age, for example, as I do not see them as original characters (but that's just my opinion). This list does not also include anyone from any original stories I've written.

Last night I beat Dragon Age II.

I was kind of surprised about that, and I will agree with the consensus that, at a certain point, the plot starts to feel rushed. What I won't say, however, is that the entire game feels like that (which is a feeling I got from some of the complaints I read).

spoilers )

And then, once my game finished, I created Bron (as mentioned momentarily above), who is a mage who hates mages. Go figure. (I like the absurdity of that. I can imagine it will amuse the crap out of me).

Things I have been putting off that needed doing:

~ a virus scan on my computer (this was the least urgent, but still necessary)

~ transferred and sorted out a butt load of photos for a picspam/a pic to upload to Storenvy.

~ contacted someone about something that was bugging me (yay anxiety!)

~ applied to a mobile phone recycling company to get my phones recycled/passed on (I will get £29 for my old N96! With any luck)

~ Joined Storenvy (haven't set up shop yet, but having joined is better than not)

~ trying to find a useful AIM username. So far, not so good. All the ones I want are taken, and thinking of one I like is stressful and annoying. I may come back to this at some point in the near future instead.

~ I'm sure there were a couple of other things, but I have since forgotten them. ANYWAY. Point is, I did some stuff today! \o/

Left to do is:

# contact client about finished commission

# finish badges and upload photos to Storenvy (and, of course, make a store)

# cleaning the house (boring, but necessary)

# work some more on headband ideas (got another one, and had some useful feedback re: the original)

# reply to comments owing

# get some fucking sleep

~*~

I think my increased anxiety re: work of late has been the usual thing. I'm worrying about things that...well, I want to talk about, but I find it difficult to. Also I seem to be hella premenstrual this week, and I got vague upsets for no reason earlier today (can't say this morning as I wasn't awake then). And now I want to cry hardcore just because someone has been exceedingly nice to me.

I cuddled the cat instead.

She miaowed at me, and now she is sitting beside me, watching the TV.

~*~

CHECK THIS OUT!

How awesome is this fill for one of the prompts for the New Year Lunar Exchange on White Lotus?

Seriously, dude. Props to anon for their mad hat making skills!

~*~

This has been sitting here for a dog's age, waiting for me to say something else, and I realise I have nothing else to say, so I might as well finish up here.

(Good news is, I am less angry today, which is helped by not being in pain all day, YAY).

Yeah. Time to get some sleep, probably.
What it says on the tin. I'm intending to delete my insanejournal very, very soon. Since that's the only place with my complete list of finished games, it's about time I mirrored it somewhere else. And since this is my new home on the interwebs, why not here?

(I will cut this list when it starts getting ridiculously long, but I so rarely finish games out right that no-one needs to worry about that right now).
