I babysat my nephew last night, so of course I used to opportunity to watch Knives Out on my in-laws' Netflix.

I enjoyed it. I wasn't sure if I would or not, esp because it's been hyped to heck and back, but I actually did like it more than I was expecting to. I wasn't expecting Daniel Craig's character to be such a goofball, but I also enjoyed that! Made a change from the handful of other things I've seen him in.

So yeah, I don't feel like I wasted that time at all, which was nice.

(My nephew stayed in his room playing Fortnite with his friends, which was fine by me, I said he could if anyone was about online, and he got to stay up late because it's half term right now).

~

Other than that, I've had a bit of A Week, some of which sort of concerns work stuff that I'm not going to go into because this is an unlocked post, and honestly it would take too much explaining even if it weren't. Suffice to say it was a lot of Drama, and I got caught in the middle of it and blimey I wish I hadn't been.

~

Other than that, I haven't played Okami since I last posted, as I've mostly either just gone to sleep early, or dinked about a bit in the Theatrhythm demo.

I did watch Flembons playing Celeste, but I didn't enjoy it. It looks like a game that seems very frustrating to play, and, well, I don't like that sort of thing (see also: Dark Souls). Also I'm not into platformers, and the gameplay reminds me of Knytt Story levels that I downloaded a loooong time ago and couldn't get into because I wasn't as dexterous as the designers of the levels wanted me to be. (It's probably easier on a controller than a keyboard, but it's still not my thing).

I also watched Ian from Eurogamer play a bit of Dark Souls II's endgame on his own channel, as he did a surprise stream of it the other night, but I don't know that I'll go back to it to see how he got on. I like Ian (most of the time); I do not like Dark Souls, and I don't know why I keep persisting with it, tbqh!

Bullet points because I have not a lot of nothing to say:

# I finally ordered The Matrix: Resurrections, so I can get to watching that, and also picked up Bill & Ted Face The Music while I was at it.

Neither of these are sequels I wanted, but I will watch them all the same. I did laugh at the one B&T trailer I watched back when it came out, so that bodes well? And I think we all know how hype I was after seeing the Matrix trailers, so fingers crossed it turns out to be at least okay?

# The last six weeks or so have been this weird, horrible fug of me feeling really tired thanks to work (and some other stuff), and I thought I was feeling a bit better, but then I had a combo of a super horrible migraine and the clocks changing! So I'm still feeling gross, yay!

# In P5S, ~weird~ things are happening! (It's an SMT game, when are weird things NOT happening, let's be honest).

I'm around 30 hours in still (I haven't played a lot because of aforementioned migraine and clocks), and I'm still enjoying it. Fusion seems to be this weird mystery I can never get the hang of (I swear it changes from game to game what fusion produces which demon! Perhaps I should start writing it down in a notebook so I can compare next time).

# I'm finally nearly at the end of the offline diary I've been using for almost exactly a year. It has 200+ pages, and I didn't think it would take this long to fill it, but it has!

I know I said this a month ago, but this time I mean it! There's literally four pages left, all I have to do is write some nonsense on them! And then I will swap to the stripy notebook I bought in Tesco a while ago. I originally planned to put French revision in it, but never got around to it, so it can be a diary instead. Maybe I will use an exercise book for French revision (assuming I ever get to it, lol).

# Drive by tea review:

Tetley Lemon and Ginger: I'm not very keen on it. It doesn't taste of lemon AT ALL. It tastes of a fruit, but it isn't lemon. The ginger is apparent, and not unpleasant. Even leaving it to stew for ten minutes doesn't really improve it. Will not be buying this again! Also I should probably stop buying Tetley teas altogether, as I haven't had great experiences with most of the ones I've tried!
Thanks to work I have a whole bunch of DVDs I will probably never watch! (You may think I'm joking, but I have a stack I bought in CEX in 2017 and I have not watched a single one of them yet).

But I finally have Monty Python and the Holy Grail! \o/ Which I probably will watch soonish because I think it's my favourite Python film (I love Arthurian myth, in case you didn't know, which you probably didn't because I don't mention it much, if ever). Although I doubt much of it has aged well, there's a bit I'm not looking forward to having to sit through, and let us not forget that some of the Pythons turned out to be colossal tools so YAY*.

I also have most of the Fast & Furious films, as I have a friend who adores them, so her enthusiasm has rubbed off on me over the years, and I thought I would give them a go.

And I have the first three Underworld films as I decided to give them a chance since baby!me was an idiot, basically (although I was very tired of the "vampires versus werewolves" thing when the first film came out, because that was all supernatural fiction was at that point, so I'd just hit saturation).

And then finally, I have a boxset of the Indiana Jones films, so now I can watch The Last Crusade! \o/ Fun fact: I actually saw said boxset when I was buying that stack of DVDs back in 2017, but didn't buy it at the time and regretted it. But not enough to go looking for it, however.

~

In case you were wondering about my sore neck, I solved the problem by spending most of the day in bed, playing NEO: TWEWY and not moving much.

I am enjoying the game, although I think right now it's more because I'm playing a TWEWY game on a big screen than it is the plot (which is mostly making me go, ehhhhhhh a lot, but then again, I'm not that far into it).

Expandeverything else is spoilers! )

~

The final thing I have to say is about books!

I finished reading The Last Vampire, and it ends on a cliffhanger, which is not much of a cliffhanger now, considering there are eight other books after this one. I don't know if I care enough to continue reading the series, but I haven't put them away again, so we'll see in the future.

I was going to reread Lords and Ladies afterwards, but I changed my mind and am now reading Equal Rites. There is a reason for this that basically boils down to: some TERFs said Terry Pratchett would've been on their side, had he still been alive, and Rhianna Pratchett tore them a new one by essentially saying evidently none of them had ever read her dad's work because that was patently untrue.

And then I also saw his official twitter account had posted a quote from Equal Rites:
They say a little knowledge is a dangerous thing, but it's not one half so bad as a lot of ignorance.

Which was obviously also in response to the situation.

And I thought, "I've never read this book, even though I've owned it for nearly thirty years, I should rectify that!" So that's what I'm doing.

(I also dug out Small Gods, as my mum bought me that at the same time as Equal Rites and, again, I've never read it, because I am the world's worst Discworld fan).

I am not very far into it, but I have already sniggered a fair bit, so it's safe to say I think I'll enjoy it.

~

*Yesterday on my way home from work, I was trying to remember if Eric Idle was all right, as I can't remember him saying anything stupid lately (if at all). I'm pretty sure Michael Palin is, because he's the world's nicest person (Keanu Reeves aside), but John Cleese and Terry Gilliam can get in the bin.
1. I completely dropped the ball on the Post Once A Day meme, and missed my first day (I assumed the first of the month would be okay for posting except hahahahah no! Because tiredness and stress!) But I absolutely will get to answering the question in a moment!

(I still have spaces, btw, in case anyone has any burning questions they want to ask me? Or a topic to talk about! It doesn't have to be a question!)

2. Because of aforementioned tiredness and stress, I am still at the same place I was almost two weeks ago in Diablo III. I almost thought about quitting, but I'm so close to the end that I might as well see if I can dink the final boss on the head.

3. I saw a copy of Monty Python and the Holy Grail at New Work (or possibly Old Work, now I am confused). I did not pick it up, and am regretting my decision. I like that film, because Arthurian Myth, but also there's bits that I straight up have never liked, which is what gives me pause about it (although I guess at least with DVD I can skip that easily??)

3b. I did finally manage to get a copy of The Bends on CD, though, after having only owned it on tape for twenty plus years.

4. There is still snow outside, and it snowed most of the day while I was at work. It didn't stick in town, but when I got off the bus at home, I was amazed how much had stuck (It was little over an inch, which isn't that impressive, I know, but I wasn't expecting it).

5. Time for that Post Once A Day answer!

I had an interview for a supermarket job on the 21st! I only didn't mention it beforehand because I'm really superstitious about telling anyone (I think that if I tell someone I've even applied for a job, it means I won't get it, so interviews even more so). I didn't expect to get called for an interview at all, so that was a surprise, and I honestly don't think I will get the actual job, although I won't know till the middle of next week.

(It will be HI-LARI-OUS if I do get it, though, because I will be working in the same location I used to work 16 years ago, but in an entirely different building. Hopefully, though, this job wouldn't lead me to quit because of a nervous breakdown!)

And in other job related news, I have been signed up for an online interview techniques course (I asked for it, I wasn't just told I had to do it). I've not done anything like this before. I mean, I have in person, but not using my computer, so this is all new! (I didn't video chat with anyone during lockdown so currently I am all ?????) I don't know if it's one to one or in a group, but I can ask about that next time I speak to the person who referred me.

~

I watched Ellen play through as much as Ghost of Tsushima as was available on Outside Xtra (I forgot she stopped playing for the Kingdoms of Amalur remaster, whoops). I am still in two minds about it. I don't hate the obvious cinematic influences (and they are EVERYWHERE) but they still kind of bug me and I don't know why. Which is kind of daft, because that sort of thing doesn't annoy me in other games? My brain is a weird thing, for sure.

Of course, now I want to consume all the Kurosawa films I haven't seen which is most of them because I've only seen The Seven Samurai. Though the British Film Institute currently have a bunch of them available online if you subscribe, and it's only £5 a month which is not bad!* Not that I can afford a subscription with them right now, but it's something to bear in mind for the future.

~

Other stuff:

- my almost twenty year old Kenwood stereo is finally knackered. The left audio output is busted, so it only plays sound in mono now. So I potentially need a new stereo, but cannot afford it right now.

- I shuffled my chair and side table around a bit in the living room, and everything feels a bit weird now. But I have mildly more floor space, so I am not complaining!

~

*I don't know if it's available outside of the UK, though.
Oh my word I feel like I have had SUCH a week. I've been busy every day since last Friday, and not sleeping well, and basically I've been running on fumes! (I hate this; every time I feel like this now, I have no idea how I managed when I was like this for longer periods in the past).

Friday I worked, Saturday I had to go shopping for clothes/shoes because I had an upcoming interview, and barely any smart clothes. Sunday I was working, as I was on Monday. Tuesday I had the interview, then went food shopping, and Wednesday I was working. Today is the first day I'm not doing anything.

Add to this that for several of the nights, I did not sleep well. I've slept better since Monday, but it's still been broken sleep so it's not been great.

I also think that I still haven't adjusted to the clocks going back, even though it's nearly two weeks ago now.

I didn't get the job I interviewed for. Partly because I haven't had an interview in ten years, partly because I didn't know what I would be asked, and partly because I don't have the confidence/skill level for the job right now. All of which is fair, and I didn't disagree with anything that was said because it's all true.

I watched Back to the Future on Saturday, although to say I actually watched it is not accurate. It just kind of happened while I was in the room (I did watch the last fifteen to twenty minutes, though, because I always do, because even though I've seen this film SO MANY times, it always grips me). I didn't bother with the sequels, though. It's not like they're going anywhere; I can watch them another time.

Also one of my work colleagues mentioned D&D-ing again, and offered to DM, and somehow I came up with an idea for a character. They are, in part, based on the villain from my Webcomic Which Will Never Happen, and I am kind of excite! However, they are an elf, and a random tweet I saw the next day reminded me that actually I wanted to play a tabaxi (because, yanno, I'll try to be a cat person wherever possible) and I don't think the character would fit a tabaxi. I don't know! I am going to think about this some more.

And finally, I bought myself used copies of Ni No Kuni and Kingdoms of Amalur to give them a go. I didn't like the demo of Amalur when I played it way back when, but I'm going to give it another go. I've been thinking about doing that for a while, but one of the presenters on Outside Xbox is well into it, and extremely enthusiastic about it, and I think her enthusiasm has rubbed off on me. So. That's two more games for the backlog!

And now I'm done, because this feels like a long post, even if it isn't.

1. I got fed up with my hair, so I have cut the majority of it off. So now I have super short hair, and all the bleached bits are finally gone. However, there is a lot of grey, so possibly I will do what a friend did, and get a semi-permanent colour to go over it. (She did hers blue, and it looked awesome).

2. We are due thunderstorms on Friday, after it has been apocalyptically hot here tomorrow.

3. I rewatched Wreck-It Ralph the other day, and noticed a whole bunch of things I didn't catch the first time. I was also impressed with how well I remembered the plot, and how well put together and foreshadowed the plot is! (Seriously, I wish I could write something that well!) I also didn't think I was enjoying it as much as last time, so was completely caught out when a couple of things at the end made me cry.

4. Talking of animated stuff, I watched an episode and a half of Miraculous Ladybug a while back. The half an episode was a season two one I haven't seen (I haven't seen any of season two*) and IDK if it's just me, but the animation quality doesn't seem to be as good? It's probably me being picky (because I am where animation is concerned), and probably because I haven't seen any episodes for a while.

And I didn't enjoy the episode from series one as much, which was a shame.

*I stopped following the creator on twitter/stopped being as interested in the show when it turned out he's racist. I'm not surprised (he's made comments before that made me think it), but I am really disappointed. But yeah, it's completely soured me on the show.

5. I don't have a number five, but five things make a post, right?

Hope everyone's New Year celebrations went well, or as well as they could do.

~

So because I am on a mission to eventually watch The Last Jedi (sadly it won't be in the cinema), my first purchase of the new year was the prequels and The Force Awakens and Rogue One. Also the Knights of the Old Republic games, because I saw them years ago and didn't buy them, so I am correcting that mistake.

Anyway, yeah, all the whiners on the internet have got me intrigued at TLJ - as have the people giving it praise, let's be honest. I want to know why it seems to be such a divisive film!

I've been decidedly "meh" about the sequels/side stories but idk, I want to know what's made the fanboys so angry. But I'm also aware that I need the context of the preceding films, even the prequels, and I like making myself experience terrible media so oh boy here we go.

On that note, today I received TFA, Rogue One, and Revenge of the Sith. So obvs I can't start watching anything yet. I mean, I did watch the original trilogy over New Year (all the films were longer than I remembered! But it's been a while since I last watched them, and while I've spent my entire life being a nerd about them, I don't think I've seen them as often as some films I've watched? *shrugs*). But I can't watch anything else until The Phantom Menace arrives (well, I could, but I'd like to go in order of release).

~

Having utterly failed to beat my reading challenge on Goodreads for last year, I have set my challenge for this year way, way lower. (I originally aimed for 25, then lowered it to 22 when it became clear there was no way that was happening. So this year I'm going for 15, and try not to feel too bad about not reading*. Also a proportion of my books seem to be DNFs, and I'd like to cut down on those/be able to eliminate them properly from my total for the year).

If you want to add me (no pressure!), my profile is here.

~

Films watched recently:

A New Hope
The Empire Strikes Back
Return of the Jedi
Four Weddings and a Funeral (I am puzzled as to why I ever thought I liked this film)
Maleficent (this was good! I didn't know what to expect, but I enjoyed it)

~

*The stupid thing is, I am still reading! It's just not things that count towards my challenge total.
My life, as it currently stands, seems to be draining me of all energy, and awash with hormones at all other times. It also feels to be deathly boring because, while I was doing nothing much before, I am still doing nothing very much, just in a different way.

PFFT.

Anyway, I forgot to note when it happened, but I bought a used copy of Lucy on DVD and I watched it and it was terrible. I was so bored! Luc Besson is usually a much better story teller than this! There was way too much exposition and standing (or sitting) around while it happened. It felt like really wasted potential. Did I mention it was boring?

(I know there was a lot of hate when it came out, some of which I assumed was because it was a female lead and so on. I did not expect it to be flat out awful, however).

~

Bonus: three films that came out the year I was born:

Excalibur

Time Bandits
I read a whole two books in less than a week! \o/

The first one was If I Was Your Girl by Meredith Russo, which is a nice straight forward story about a transgender teenage girl. I really liked it, and found it really readable. It's just a nice, hopeful story, and I really needed something like that right now.

(People complain about how idealised the situations are in the book but, to be honest, it came across to me exactly like the books I read as a teenager? Except that the female protagonist was trans instead of cis. But I actually think those people who complained wanted it to be about how angsty it is being transgender, and I'm glad this didn't go there).

The second one was Pretty Little Liars by Sara Shepard, which I've heard a lot about recently, presumably because the TV series based on the books has just finished. While I thought it was written OK, I found irritating because:

a) apparently I am supposed to feel sorry for these navel-gazing spoilt rich girls. I don't.
b) she was clearly intending to write a series from the beginning, and so nothing is resolved by the end of the first book and
c) it's essentially wish-fulfilment plus a book version of a soap opera and ugggghhhh. *rolls eyes*

I did like the way she wrote the relationship between Emily and Maya, though. That was about the only genuine feeling thing in the entire book.

I bought both of them on a whim as WH Smiths was having a three for two on YA fiction (I also picked up Fans of the Impossible Life, as I had been thinking about getting it for myself anyway. I then went back the following day and acquired three quarters of the Raven Cycle, which was all they had, and which mum paid for, which was nice of her).

~

I have not bought my copy of FFXII yet. I was going to go for the steelbook, but I think I won't, since the only difference between that and the ordinary copy (apart from the price) is the cover, and a download of the soundtrack.

~

I watched Inception again the other night, as it was on TV anyway, and I thought it'd be nicer to put the DVD on, since there would be no adverts.

I'm glad I still like it (because I do), though I wish I hadn't watched it, as I was in entirely the wrong frame of mind to deal with Expandthis spoiler ) and also everything to do with Fischer and his dad. So, by the time it finished, I was essentially a sobbing nervous wreck, and I didn't think I'd be able to get to sleep (luckily, I was so knackered that I did).

I'm still sad that Saito doesn't get more to do, but that's probably just my Ken Watanabe bias talking... ;)

Films watched recently:

# Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance
# King Ralph
# Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade

(I am so bad at keeping track of films I've watched, but this is literally everything I've seen in the last two months. I've got Looper, Point Break, and Chain Reaction on the digibox to watch, and have not managed it yet).

~

The other day, I spent an afternoon reading rubbish on buzzfeed. I seem to have turned this into a habit recently, when I don't know what else to do with myself. I mean, some of the stuff I don't read because it's clickbait I'm not interested in, but I happened to discover that occasionally they do articles about true crime. So I read one about missing people, and one about horrible murders, and then spent that night unable to sleep! GOSH I WONDER WHY.

(I figured in the end it was 60% that, 20% that it was too humid so I was uncomfortable, and 20% that I was too hot).

I then didn't learn from that experience, as I spent the next day reading about stock unsolved mysteries on TVT, some of which included murders, because oh hai Jack the Ripper (I love stuff like this, though, sadly. Though I didn't go looking details up, because I'm not a complete idiot).

And now I'm reading about conspiracy theories because I find them interesting and, sometimes, they amuse me, and they won't keep me awake at night.

~

I started Assassin's Creed, but it's not engaging me. I'll try to finish it, but I'm not going to rush into it.

I also started Saints Row IV and it is essentially Matrix References: The Game. Well, it is at the moment. Oh, apart from the bit in the White House (because you are now President!), which reminded me a heck of a lot of the start of Mass Effect 3.
If you are following me on twitter (you lucky people ;) ), you may have noticed that I've spent a lot of time recently tweeting about U2. And why would I not? They are my favourite band, after all. (Apparently they are described a lot these days as "your dad's favourite band" and, since I'm old enough to be someone's dad, I suppose that's accurate). I am going to spend this entry talking about them because I can, and because my mood is fucking foul right now, and U2 (mostly) make me happy.

To that end:

I watched Killing Bono earlier because I've had it on DVD for years and never touched it. A friend recommended it to me ages ago after she'd seen it, because she thought I might find it entertaining, if nothing else. The internet says it's hilarious, and I kind of side-eyed the internet, but they were right! (And the laughter isn't derived from the main character being an epic failure of a human being, though he is that for sure).

The story is based on a book by Neil McCormick, who had the misfortune to be at school with Bono. I say based, because the book's way more truthful about what actually happened. A lot of stuff in the film is either exaggerated, or outright fabricated (though I can see why; a certain spoiler being what actually happened would not work for the purposes of the narrative). I'm going to get the book so I can read it - I would have done eventually. I will buy books about U2 regardless of content, so I'm sort of surprised I haven't managed to pick this up somewhere before now.

Anyway, it's a good film, and it's not demanding. And it's OK if you're not into U2, because you don't need to know anything about them except that they got famous, Neil's band didn't, and Neil thinks that's a travesty. It feels very much like a British film to me (one user on the imdb described it as being like "a made for TV movie", but I get the impression they've maybe not seen many British films? We make shit differently over here, son). I liked that. Would easily watch it again.

~

I also tried to pick my twenty favourite songs by U2, and it went badly. There are seven honourable mentions, and I do not feel this is enough. I'm not even happy with what I've got in the twenty. I may shuffle it in the future. I have put it under a cut because it's a list. There are Youtube links where available.

Some of these videos have flashing lights/rapidly moving imagery, so please take care if you have epilepsy.

So yesterday, I investigated the remnants of the library booksale. I was half checking to see if the copy of Pacific Rim that they had was still there. It was, so I picked it up! I also got Jupiter Ascending (which I'd nearly bought a new copy of elsewhere earlier), and John Wick (which I got because Keanu Reeves, and because the internet said it's good???)

And then I started tweeting about Keanu, and how much I like him. And had a whole convo with a friend about him on twitter. And I was feeling shitty, so when I got home, I put on The Matrix Reloaded, and watched the selected highlights* (I actually don't think I've watched the full film in a looong time. I should do that sometime soon). And then I was, like, "I haven't watched the original film in ages. I should do that!" So I did. I had to stop it half an hour out from the end, so I watched the rest earlier today but DAMN I LOVE THAT FILM.

I'm actually going to write a post about these films and my love for them. (Twenty five year crush on Mr Reeves aside).

And tomorrow I'm probably going to watch the Superbrawl from Revolutions, because DAMN, SON.

~

In other news, I wrote a 4500 word short story in two days. It needs a rewrite, and I'm leaving it to stew at the moment, but I'm very pleased with myself.

~

*For anyone who doesn't know that's: from the teahouse fight to the Burly Brawl, then the Château fight, the car chase, Morpheus explaining the plan, and the Architect.
I am nearly at the final dungeon in FFIV DS!

I had forgotten entirely about the expository cutscenes near the end! (I also can't remember if there was anything even like that in the original game. I don't think so, but I wouldn't like to say for sure as a) I can't remember the last time I even played the original, and b) I've been awake since 5:30am, so I am tired, and memory is not a working thing right now).

~

There's been some hashtag lists flittering around twitter in the past week or so and, while I posted to the games one, I had enormous trouble with the TV series and films ones, so never added them.

None of these are in anything LIKE order of preference.

I have been trying to update my instagram a bit more often, and I've been more successful at that than updating my wordpress (it's been nearly two months! Yikes. It's not like I don't have stuff to post, I do! I guess I've just been otherwise engaged).

Anyway, yeah. Art stuff! On social media! (If you're not into that sort of thing, it should be up on my WP blog eventually anyway).

~

This is a bit disjointed, for which I apologise. As previously noted, I am dog tired, after been awake for sixteen hours on six hours' sleep. Thanks, brain.
I'm watching the Buffy film and OMG it's so bad. It's just not good. There is some BAAAAAD acting (and some terrible dialogue). I suppose I'm just used to the TV series at this point.

(I like that Buffy's personality is roughly the same between both versions, though).

I wouldn't say don't ever watch this film, though. I'd say watch it at least once, especially if you've never seen it.

~

I finished the main plot in Skyrim the other day, almost by accident. It was kind of eh.

I'm not sad to be done with it, as it's the glitchiest and most crash-prone game I've ever played. Also I don't know if I've been sitting funny while playing it, or what, but it's either given me neck ache or a headache, and occasionally both.

Whatever, I'm done with it now. *throws it on the pile of finished games*

I have no idea what to play next. I don't want to try Lightning Returns again yet (and no way am I restarting a new cycle in that because NOPE NOPE NOPE). I also am loathe to finish P4A, but I am very close to the end of that, so I ought to, really. I think I'll youtube Ultimax, though.

HOLY SHIT I JUST REALISED A THING ABOUT MIRACULOUS LADYBUG (apart from the fact that I need to rewatch it)

Expandspoilers? re: who knows what about whom )
Films watched recently:

- The Phantom. Mum actually watched this with me, because she wanted to watch it, which was a nice surprise (she also said she'd like to watch The Croods with me, too). It's been a long time since I've seen this, so I remembered nothing about it apart from Billy Zane, heh. Also I have a soft spot in my heart for the Phantom, as he used to be in a cartoon series I watched as a kid, and he was my favourite character in that. So.

Anyway, I enjoyed it. And it made a change to all the darkity dark, super gritty superhero films that seem to be around these days.

~

In spite of a good night's sleep, I acquired a sad, and it's been hanging around ever since. I promised mum I wouldn't be sad this afternoon, and, er, yeah, that didn't happen. So I'm looking up pictures of different animals in an attempt to make myself feel better.

(I should make a tag for image searching to make myself feel better, since I seem to be doing it so much).

~

I bleached my hair yesterday, in preparation for dying it bright red. And I mean BRIGHT RED. Though given my hair's gone dark blonde, it won't come out as RED as it's meant to but eh, I can live. I will post a pic when it is done.
# My mood is balls. I have cried partially every day for the last week. Except yesterday and today, and I think the only reason for that is I slept well beforehand. Anyway, it's just ~hormones~ so whatever, right?

# I fell into goodreads and I can't get out?

# oh yeah - watched Wreck-It Ralph. It was not like I imagined, but I enjoyed it. I would easily watch it again.

Also watched The Man Who Fell To Earth. It was OK? I'm not sure what I was expecting, really. Expandrather large spoiler )

(My mum: is he (David Bowie) the alien?
Me: Yeah.
Mum: (unspoken question here about why he looks human if he's from another planet)
Me: Expandalso a spoiler )
Mum: ... )

and

Me: I haven't seen any Nicholas Roeg films before. The only one I know is Don't Look Now, and I don't want to watch that one.
Mum: have you seen Walkabout? It's got Jenny Agutter in it.
Me: Nope.
Mum: Are you sure? (explains plot).
Me: Yup.
Mum: *sceptical look*

# I finished reading The Drawing of the Three the other day! \o/ It only took me fourteen months! I enjoyed it, overall. The problems I had with it were mainly how annoying Eddie is in the first third of the book, but once I got past that, it was OK!

I am glad that Expandthis spoiler happened, though )

I'm going to have a break before I read The Waste Lands, though.

(Just started reading The Scorpio Races. It's OK so far, though my inner voice keeps narrating it in an Irish accent, and I don't know if that's annoying me or not).
As I mentioned on twitter, town flooded overnight, so I think someone wished for a damp Xmas.

Apparently the river has broken its previous records for height, and the so-called flood defences didn't do their job, as they were overwhelmed. We had more rain than was predicted, and the ground's already sodden because it's been raining all winter anyway.

I'm OK, though, but my road is a river instead (I blame the building that's been going on further up the hill - there's a lot of natural springs up there, one of which was concreted over/filled in so that the building work could be done. I bet that didn't help matters at all). There is water coming down off the hillside, straight into the drain by my back door. That's still going on, even though it stopped raining a while ago. But it could be worse. I could be like the poor sods who live right next to the river and woke up to flooded cellars, and from there on it just got worse.

(I'm not actually in the centre of town, which is where the flooding is the worst, and I'm really glad I'm not down there. I feel sorry for anyone who is, though).

(There is actually flooding on the main road in my village, which rarely ever happens. And one of my friends is right on the main road, so I hope she and her family are all right).

Films watched recently:

Expanda short list )

~

Talking of Idris Elba, I watched the Luther two-parter that was on, but wasn't particularly impressed with the climax/what happened with the killer in the last half hour? I mean it was gripping (and every time someone got punched (or worse) I flinched because believe me when I say I'm very jumpy) but I don't think what happened in the end made sense given what'd been presented previously? I know, I know, I'm probably thinking about it too hard. It's just a TV show, right.

Also I think there was a sequel hook in there and...I kind of wish they'd left it at three series? I mean, I like Idris Elba, I wish he was in everything, buuuut I honestly don't know where else they can go with this.
[profile] thebonesofferalletters asked for film recs, and I made an all-purpose list. I'm reposting it here in case anyone else is interested in what films I'd rec when/if my brain is working. (Although as I've said when asked before, checking through my general film tag is sometimes good because even if I didn't like a film, there's a chance you might??)

Expandze list! )

If you want to know more about any of 'em, you can ask and I will answer (though I feel like most people have seen most of the films on this list, or at least have heard of them/what they are about).

I also recced two films I didn't like, which were Ginger Snaps and Dog Soldiers, both of which are films about werewolves.

Things!

~ I posted a (very short) version of the Pied Piper the other day, that I wrote about a year ago.

~ I've had a weird pain in my right shoulder for two weeks that turned out to be a stress pain?? I don't even hold stress in my shoulders, so WTF, body? (For reference, I hold it in my lower back, which is why I have so many leg problems, apparently!)

~ I made biscuits, but I didn't put enough butter in and they came out like rusks. Am not amused.

~ Duolingo says I am 31% fluent in German, but I am side-eyeing this hardcore. I mean yeah, I do find it easier to read/write/understand now, but that's thanks to other things than using an app/website, you know? (I'm not denying Duolingo doesn't help, because it does, but it's only part of a whole).

~ I realised the other day that Event Horizon has four actors in it that I have crushes on, and this amuses the crap out of me. Also I think I need to watch it again because it's been two years since I last saw it, and where the one actor is concerned, I am severely lacking in things to watch with him in (and I REALLY want things with him in at the moment).

~ I finished reading The Islands of Chaldea (Diana Wynne Jones' last book). It was OK. I didn't enjoy it as much as some of her stuff, but I didn't hate it, either. I think it would've been better if she could've finished it herself, but obviously she couldn't (which is a shame, but there we are).

~ Now reading Some Kind of Fairy Tale. It's OK. It's readable. I'm not desperately turning the pages, wanting to know what happened, but on the other hand, I don't want to throw it across the room so yay?

~ found, by accident, this amazing photo of some mountains and a gorgeous sky. I'm going to take a proper look round the site at some point, but I felt I had to share that.

~ Mum's getting a rainbow sparkle horse on her birthday card (though it is lacking in sparkles, as I can't quite figure out where to put them). She's also going to get another horse picture (because she likes horses, and I am creative, with little money), if I can get it done in time (hopefully). Though I'm going to town tomorrow, so I think I might look for a backup present, just in case I don't manage to finish it.
