I've got an appointment for a health check tomorrow with a nurse, so that should be helpful? I hope?

It was funny, because I was going to ask if there was anything like that available*, and then I randomly got a text last week about it. So that was a nice coincidence.

In other news, I am stuck on the final boss of Deltarune chapter two, because my reactions are not quick enough/I panic in boss fights. I'm sure I'll get it eventually, but it's annoying me right now. So much so I didn't actually play any Deltarune yesterday, I just sat and watched a three hour theory video instead.

I also watched a video called What The Internet Did to Undertale. Which is about the effect the game had on release, and how that reflected back into the fandom, and how it likely affected Toby. And I found it really interesting! (Though it contains spoilers for the game, so don't watch it if you haven't played it).

What I especially found interesting was the portion that touches on how many alternate universes of the game fans made. And I mean barely touches, because there are so, so many of them. And I think it's amazing.

I mean, I love AUs. I realised yesterday, after watching that video, that most of the fic I ever wrote for every single fandom I've ever been in where I wrote were AUs. I even started thinking about, though never wrote/published, AU of AU fic for at least two fandoms. Because why not, I guess!

And then I wondered at what point an AU of an AU of an AU (etc, etc) becomes an original work and then my brain melted. Although it did have me thinking about the one AU AU that I could totally make into an original story if I chose to because it doesn't require much shuffling to make it original (whether I'd want to do that is another story (ha ha) entirely).

I don't know where I was really going with this, except that it proves I've always liked AUs/bending canon. (I was going to mention in the previous post that I also like Groundhog Day loops, and messing with scenarios in that, but I'd already gone off-topic as it was anyway. But this feels like a good place to mention it. Additional fact: I tried watching Groundhog Day when I was kid, but got bored (!!), so never finished watching it. I've never thought to try watching since because I am a fool).

I just find them a very interesting concept, I guess, and that video just got me thinking.

*The last time I had one was a good fifteen years ago, I'd estimate, and things have (obviously) changed since then.
I said over on Twitter that I might work on my webcomic idea over Xmas (since I've got 16 days off, which is the most ever!), but I'm actually being sidelined by another idea I keep tinkering with. A few years ago, I invented a few worlds, with some people to go in them, and I'd just make things up for them as they came to me. One world I like more than the others, because it's got a Middle Eastern influence and a talking tiger, so...yeah... And because I've been messing about with pixels, I wondered if pixelling some of that might start me off doing something more concrete with it.

(Actually, there's some stuff on my reblog blog I should check back on because this whole thing is the reason I reblogged those things. Also maybe look at writing prompts for a more solid idea of how the world works).

ETA: Mum said I should read Dune for Things In A Desert inspiration and...I really don't want to? I get that it's a sci-fi classic and everything but I just don't want to. I suppose, if I find the book (I know we have it - we also have several of the sequels, I saw them the other weekend when I was doing shelves and books on shelves), I should just flick through it and see what I think.

If you have any Things In A Desert that might be inspirational to me, that would be lovely? (It can even be music, music is gooooooood!)
(This why I went to Prince of Persia, below, it made sense to me). [/eta]

Also I've been thinking about getting the PS2 Prince of Persia games (like I need more games to not finish), and it turns out I can get the entire trilogy from my local CEX for the princely (ho ho) sum of £3 \o/ I swore I wouldn't buy anything next time I was near there (because bill paying YAY), but three quid isn't going to make THAT much of a dent (although granted it's three quid that could've gone towards DA:I). I can also get the Xbox one for £3, but since it's supposed to follow on from the PS2 games, I thought I'd play them first and see how I do with them??? *shrugs*

And apparently the soundtracks are really nifty so yay?

I keep thinking about this mad post I want to make about The Fault in Our Stars but I'm going to leave it at this:

It is the single most patronising YA book I've ever had the misfortune to read (and I've read some awful books in my time, YA, kids', and adult). I don't even think I've read an adult book that patronising and sneering. It's readable. I kept going in spite of wanting to throw it against the wall repeatedly because his base style is engaging. I got to the worst part, and was all, "Oh god, this is THAT book" (which it is. Yeah).

And I just. This book oozes smugness. And that whole HERE'S A CLEVER THING LOOK THIS THING IS CLEVER AND I DID IT DO YOU SEE THAT?! that I find present in a lot of recent films I've seen and it drives me nuts. There's plenty of ways to be clever without a) pointing it out and b) not being patronising about it. I think if you need to point out that you've been clever, it's a bit like explaining the joke. Just imho, though.

So that's pretty much it.

I didn't like this book and I think its author is a prick.
So I have been reading the TVT pages for A Song of Ice and Fire, because today the third series of A Game of Thrones started on Sky Atlantic.

And, as is usual when I read about such things, I want to write my own fantasy epic. I haven't started on this mainly because I wouldn't know where to start (and the fledgling ideas I have in my head don't want to fit any of the moulds I feel they should. I know this because I spent some of today wrestling with one of them. Though I got maybe a handful of words down for it, so it's not all bad).

Let me state also that: I haven't read the books. I tried, waaaay back before the TV show was on, but I didn't get very far. My mum's read all of them (though it took her a year to get to the most recent, but that's besides the point). I know spoilers out the wazoo, though, and will happily discuss the series with people. I watch the TV show, although I'm glad I haven't read the books, because I'd be SO ANGRY at how much must've been cut to get it down to 10 eps per series. I even have favourite characters (and spend a lot of time with mum going, "I like X character" and hearing, "Yes, so do I", in return).

I honestly don't think I'll ever read the books. For one, they're too huge (especially by A Dance With Dragons), and big books tend to lose my attention quickly (I blame Stephen King; I had a short attention span even as a teenager). For a second, it's all about political machinations and...that stuff really bores the crap out of me.

Currently I'm reading Arya's bits in A Clash of Kings, but only because I want to know how or if Jaqen H'ghar is any different in the book (learnt so far: he leaves her at a completely different point in the story). I may end up reading Arya's bits in all the books anyway, as she's one of my favourite characters, and I like where her story's going. But I can't imagine reading the rest of it. Ever.

Which is a reeeally long winded (I think; I'm very tired) way of saying that if you want to talk to me about Icy-Firey Songs, you're more than welcome to do so. Hell, even showing me cool arts if you want. I came to be familiar with it thanks to cool arts, so...yeah.

(Relatedly: I think the way Jaqen talks and refers to himself reminds me of the hanar. Specifically because I think I read a bit where he introduced himself to someone and said, "This one's name is Jaqen H'ghar". Now imagining him as a hanar - brb, loling).
Original Character Masterlist

Last updated: 8/3/2013

This is mainly for personal reference, but if you're interested, feel free to take a look. I don't mind. You can see pictures of some of them here.

Please note that this post does not include player characters for games like Mass Effect or Dragon Age, for example, as I do not see them as original characters (but that's just my opinion). This list does not also include anyone from any original stories I've written.
