muladhara: (grumpy)
I feel like a whiner saying the following, but dang it, this is my g dang journal, and I am going to whine!

On Tuesday, when I went for that lovely walk and recorded the birds, I then had a migraine for the rest of the day! (I suspected this would happen before I went out, as I sometimes get a weird feeling behind my left eye, although I don't always get the migraine the same day that happens). It wasn't as bad as sometimes, but it was still Not Great.

Then on Wednesday and Thursday, I somehow managed to have a food related problem with a type of food that does not usually cause me problems. I scoured the ingredients list several times, looking for something that could have caused it. There was nothing. The food was in date. My digestive system just decided to have a tantrum, I guess!

(And I know it was that, because I stopped eating it/put the remainder in the food recycling, and now I am fine).

Then Friday, one of my teeth decided to start hurting. It didn't interrupt my sleep too much, but combine that with it being a very hot night*, and the teenager up the street who likes to play loud music, and I did not have a good night's rest.

And then I wondered why going food shopping yesterday wore me out!

And you know what the worst part of this is? I HAD PLANS! I was going to be sociable! And work on my ko-fi! And my body essentially went, "LOL NOPE". Thanks, me, that was great.

I did manage to get an idea in motion for a set of two prints, though, and I bound a book, so it's not all bad? The prints were originally going to be the member only ones, but I thought considering the designs (mushrooms), they might sell well, so I will now have to think of something else!

Also my new favourite streamer started playing Deltarune, so obviously I watched that. I'm glad I finished it before he started playing it - though there was only about a week between my finishing and his starting, so that was a weird coincidence.

Other than that, it's mostly been me feeling sorry for myself!

~

*It didn't get quite as hot here as the forecast predicted (24°C actual temp versus 27° predicted), but it was still enough to make my house feel gross.

I just beat Deltarune! \o/

I tossed up whether to put it in my list of beaten games, but it's not a full game, so I don't feel happy doing it. So I won't. Until the finished game is out and I have, indeed, beaten the entire thing.

LARGE SPOILERS AVOID )

And I think that's all I have to say right now. I'm very pleased with myself that I managed to do it because, well, I don't really play games on PC any more (apart from Loop Hero, which I guess I can get back to now ;) ), and because I'm not good at stuff where you need quick reactions.
I've got an appointment for a health check tomorrow with a nurse, so that should be helpful? I hope?

It was funny, because I was going to ask if there was anything like that available*, and then I randomly got a text last week about it. So that was a nice coincidence.

~

In other news, I am stuck on the final boss of Deltarune chapter two, because my reactions are not quick enough/I panic in boss fights. I'm sure I'll get it eventually, but it's annoying me right now. So much so I didn't actually play any Deltarune yesterday, I just sat and watched a three hour theory video instead.

I also watched a video called What The Internet Did to Undertale. Which is about the effect the game had on release, and how that reflected back into the fandom, and how it likely affected Toby. And I found it really interesting! (Though it contains spoilers for the game, so don't watch it if you haven't played it).

What I especially found interesting was the portion that touches on how many alternate universes of the game fans made. And I mean barely touches, because there are so, so many of them. And I think it's amazing.

I mean, I love AUs. I realised yesterday, after watching that video, that most of the fic I ever wrote for every single fandom I've ever been in where I wrote were AUs. I even started thinking about, though never wrote/published, AU of AU fic for at least two fandoms. Because why not, I guess!

And then I wondered at what point an AU of an AU of an AU (etc, etc) becomes an original work and then my brain melted. Although it did have me thinking about the one AU AU that I could totally make into an original story if I chose to because it doesn't require much shuffling to make it original (whether I'd want to do that is another story (ha ha) entirely).

I don't know where I was really going with this, except that it proves I've always liked AUs/bending canon. (I was going to mention in the previous post that I also like Groundhog Day loops, and messing with scenarios in that, but I'd already gone off-topic as it was anyway. But this feels like a good place to mention it. Additional fact: I tried watching Groundhog Day when I was kid, but got bored (!!), so never finished watching it. I've never thought to try watching since because I am a fool).

I just find them a very interesting concept, I guess, and that video just got me thinking.

~

*The last time I had one was a good fifteen years ago, I'd estimate, and things have (obviously) changed since then.
I keep getting distracted! By all of the art ideas all at once, and then I end up playing video games instead, and then I feel bad.

To which note: I watched playthroughs of Undertale because I haven't played it yet, and I was really itching to play Deltarune. This is partly the fault of an artist I watch on youtube*, as I ended up watching his video theorising about who the villain is in Deltarune. Which, now I'm most of the way through chapter two of said game, I disagree with him (since you have to take specific actions for something he mentions to even occur), but I guess we'll see when the entire game is out! (If it ever is. I mean, I hope so, but also if Toby loses interest/can't finish it because of health reasons or whatever else, so be it).

So yeah. Undertale is an okay game! I probably would have enjoyed it better had I played it myself/closer to release date. Like. A lot of it has been so thoroughly referenced and over memed that I just. avoided it because of that, I guess! I do not think it is the greatest game ever made, but I do think it does some interesting things in interesting ways.

LARGE spoilers )

And that's all I have to say about that!

And then, of course, Deltarune does a thing I absolutely LOVE in fiction, which is taking characters we already know, but putting them in entirely different situations. Which is, to digress slightly, why I think I love AUs so much, and why my two favourite episodes of Farscape are the ones they are (John Quixote and Unrealised Reality, before you ask. I mean, JQ is also one of my faves because it's Stark-centric, and Stark is my favourite character. And now I really am digressing)**.

I'm about halfway through chapter 2, I think? I don't know, since I'm avoiding spoilers (apart from that one video, lol). It took around three hours or so to play chapter 1, and I can't imagine 2 is much longer? Guess I'll find out this afternoon :D

I also started playing FFIV on my PS2, but haven't got too far with that (just met up with Yang), thanks to the aforementioned Undertale hole/feeling guilty about playing video games, although that's nowt fresh.

And that's pretty much all that's been happening with me for the past few days!

~

*AND my current favourite streamer. He says people keep bugging him to play it, but he's reluctant to, because they'll want him to do certain things, and he (obviously) wants to play it the way he wants to play it. But he's had trouble with people backseating in the past, so I totally get where he's coming from.

**Also if we really digress, it's also why I think I love reincarnation stories, because it scratches a similar itch. And also why I started writing that story one time when I was in my early twenties that went nowhere but was along both of these lines. I still think about it a lot, even now. I'd still really like to write something like that one day (well, maybe not exactly, but with those sorts of themes).

I can't play Deltarune because I don't use Windows *sulks*

I'm sort of not bothered, but I regret missing out on Undertale first time around (I'm still thinking about buying it, it just hasn't happened yet). Also I guess I won't get the references to Undertale in Deltarune because I'm not familiar with the first game. Oh well.

Talking of games, I don't know why, but I decided to pick up my FFXIII replay, which has lain abandoned for eighteen or so months. I completely forgot that you have to fight Barthandelus at the end of the Palamecia (because guess what, I am still freaking stuck there), and I failed miserably against him five times in a row. I almost beat him using Snow as a sentinel for the majority of the fight, but then took too long, and got Doom cast on me *sighs*

I do have the strategy guide, but hadn't got it out because I figured I didn't need it (ha ha), so I looked up how to beat Barthandelus on the internet, and the internet is correct in saying I need Sazh in my active party to cast Haste on everyone. I forget that Hope doesn't have it, and I'm pretty certain he won't get it for a long time yet*.

I still keep dying really easily versus random mooks, but that's more me not keeping an eye on character HP and switching to a paradigm with a healer than it is anything else.

Also I'm amusing myself because thanks to accessories that increase HP, Hope, Sazh, and Vanille have more HP at this time than Lightning, Fang, and Snow. OK, maybe not Snow, but certainly the other two.

In non-game related news, yesterday I moved a bookcase, and hung a shower curtain, as well as a set of regular curtains, so I reckon I get to spend all day not doing chores, right? ;)

And I am still arting! Admittedly it's all pattern drawing, but that's something! (I just need to scan some of it and get it on the art blog).

*The internet tells me he gets it at level nine of his Crystarium, which seems a long way off right now, sigh
