i'm strung out
Today I watched the original X-Men film, which was really interesting after having watched First Class and Days of Future Past less than a week ago. I feel like I'm kind of reaching, but I'm fairly certain I noticed continuity in Professor X's character, if no-one else's (Magneto, probably, but I dunno, it noticed more with the former than the latter?) But that probably shows because it's Bryan Singer et al. doing the more recent films again, so it's probably not all in my imagination.
(There isn't continuity re: details on a lot of stuff, but since the original trilogy technically now does not exist, that's not too much of a problem?)
Additionally, boyyyyyy, Hugh Jackman looks so young! I think he was about my age at the time of filming, so I guess that makes sense? (I generally don't notice people ageing much - especially not him - but it was really apparent. And he was less muscly and more hairy and now there's less hair, I think? Fairly certain he's made acquaintances with chest waxes of late... ;) ).
The climax was let down by the DVD deciding to freeze and skip parts, which is, of course, fun *eye roll*
Also it looked amazing on the new TV! Like, the colours were really clean and crisp, and to say the DVD's what? Fourteen years old now? it holds up/scales up really well (which: IDK if that's the TV, how the DVD is encoded, or what).
I could easily live without some of the clunky dialogue, though. There's bits where I just want to cringe and I wonder how any of the cast said any of it without visible cringing (that's why they're actors, though, right?)
And then I dug out alllllll my X-men comics, which were not as inaccessible as I thought, and now I have a three foot high pile to read through. I am happy about this (well, mostly).
tl;dr version: ~happy feelings about mutants~

(Talking of comics, I stopped reading High School Debut. It was cute and everything, but it wasn't really grabbing me. Maybe some other time, eh?)

Went out for a drive with Angie last night, completely on the spur of the moment. We went completely spontaneously, up onto the moors to watch the sunset. We thought we'd missed it, so she took us along this one road, we hit a high point, and there was the sun, almost on the horizon, this amazing red colour that I have never seen it. We took photos (I only had my phone, but I think my pics were ok?) We're going back next week to do some more (probably not to the same spot, but definitely for the same thing).
(I love being out on the moors. There's just so much space, and sky, and the wind blows hard, and nearly knocks you off your feet, and leaves you breathless, and I fucking love it).

If you don't mind me asking, whereabouts do you live? I'm pretty close to some moors myself.

I'm closest to Burnley, but technically in Yorkshire :D I'm also in the middle of nowhere, so the moors are, like, a twenty minute walk away, if that.

Aha I'm JUST north of Yorkshire... or I might be in north Yorkshire, I really don't know, my town belongs to like three different counties depending on who you ask.
no subject
Ohhh, one of those towns, eh? ;) Mine has a Lancs postcode, 'cause we did used to be in Lancashire once upon a time, but then the county boundaries got redefined and now we're in Yorkshire. England is a strange place sometimes.

Aha, yep! We have a Teesside postcode and I guess technically we're Teesside... but a lot of people count us as North Yorkshire, and officially our county is something else, so I have to search for about three different things when they don't let me input a county by hand on addresses. @__@

Ahhhh, I see. That must be a right pain in the arse.

The difference between X1!Jackman and DoFP!Jackman is a great example how the action star physique has changed in the last 15 years - when the first movie was made, it was during a time when even people like Keanu Reeves (or skinny musical actor Hugh Jackman...) could be an action hero, and now we're back to the unnatural 80's style Stallone/Schwarzenegger muscles for men.

Yes! I thought I was getting more picky but no, you're right. Seeing him in DofP I was kind of like, ewwwww because overmuscled men are just...off-putting, imo.
