don't forget

# The health check wasn't what I thought it was, but the good news is, according to the blood test I had, I am unlikely to have a stroke or heart attack within the next five years! \o/

And there can't be any other problems, or I assume they would have contacted me by now.

# I went for a walk yesterday morning. I've been trying to get out while I've been at home, because I can't stay in all the time, and I live in a place where there are lots of neat places to go for walks. Also I do need to exercise, and I like walking, even if my knees aren't happy about it.

I made a couple of videos of the birds singing while I was out, and was amazed by how clearly my phone picked them up. I have no idea what I was listening to, apart from two separate genus of corvid*. According to this video, I likely heard blackbirds and wrens, and possibly a robin, too, which fits with what birds I know live locally.

It reminded me that I haven't seen any jays recently, but I guess I've not been at home when they've been around.

# We are meant to be having a heatwave - temps around my area could get as high as 27°C on Friday. Do Not Want. Weirdly, it's been quite cold for June, although I've been relishing that because I hate hot weather. IDK if I've mentioned this before, but it always makes me ill, which doesn't endear it to me. The sooner it is over, the better.

# Finally, I want to ask: if you were going to subscribe to my ko-fi, what would you want as member rewards?

My ideas at the moment are extremely basic (partly to not stress myself) but two of them include shop discounts (from secondary tier up) and member only available items (available to every tier). As well as a monthly print for top tier members.

*Probably jackdaws and a crow, but I'm not 100% because I didn't see them.

# I bought babby's first ever pair of wireless earphones this Saturday just gone.

Youtube decided to randomly rec me some bloke I'd never heard of, reviewing Poundland's* current tech range. Which included said in-ear bluetooth earphones. He was so positive about them, I decided to go out and get a pair. So I did.

And honestly, he's right. They're WAY better quality sounding than they have any right to be (they're not perfect, though. There's too much bass, and I'm someone who likes the bass to be apparent in things). The bluetooth connection is a bit choppy, however, if you, like me, like to wander away from the device you're using. Which is the reason I bought them, but I guess if I mostly stay in the same room, I'll be okay.

I've currently mostly used them for listening to music on my commute and it's been a delight.

# I also bought some pens for EXTREMELY CHEAP as my local Clinton's seem to be doing away with their stationery range, and thus all the pens are 20p each. Which basically meant I got three Pilot pens and two Stabilo ones for an entire quid, and I am very happy :D

# I saw a white deer, and it was bloody amazing! I've never seen a white one before, so it was really cool! I am not going to say where or when, because it feels special, and also I remember what happened to that one that innocently went wandering about in Liverpool a few months back.

# [personal profile] hmpf bought some more mugs from my Redbubble shop, as I have updated it a couple of times recently and I had some designs in that she liked!

EDIT: I'm not going to mention every time someone buys something from me, but right now it just seemed like a convenient way of reminding me that I updated, and I meant to tell y'all. [/edit]

Also a reminder that anything that's available there is available as a print directly from me, and likely for cheaper (although only in A6/A5 format at the moment), if you fancy buying one!

# And that's all I've got for now!

*It's called Poundland because everything used to cost £1 (one pound). Anyway, now most things cost £1, some things are slightly cheaper, some are more expensive. Apparently it's roughly equivalent to Dollar Tree?
List post, because segues are for people who are better at words than me.

1. On Monday, on the way to work, I saw some deer! One of them was definitely a stag because he had a massive set of antlers.

2. I put some of the Waterman ink I got around Xmas in one of my fountain pens and OMG I LOVE THE COLOUR. It's exactly the sort of purple I want, so I am very glad I got it!

3. I started using my Sakura sketchbook and, while it's small, I don't feel like I mind too much? But I really like square sketchbooks, so that's probably it. Also the paper is REALLY NICE to draw on, and it handles all sorts of inks that I've put on it!

4. I finally got past all the Humbabas in FFXIII, although it involved grinding and upgrading my weapons (sighs). I think I probably did it wrongly, even though I followed the advice in the strategy guide but eh. After two attempts at the boss at the end of Edenhall (I beat it on the second go), I am now dicking around on Pulse again to activate some of the Cie'th stones/do mild grinding.

Also it turns out from looking through my tags that this is my third full replay - I've beaten it twice before, but had forgotten, d'oh. I thought I'd got almost to the end a second time, but not beaten it AND I didn't realise it was only a year after I first beat it that I replayed it. But I didn't have many 360 games back then, so that explains that.

5. I'm still convinced I don't have ADHD, but omg this post on reddit absolutely nails how my weasel brain feels.

Also someone in the comments mentions buying stuff you're currently obsessed with as impulsive behaviour, and I'd never thought of that! (I mean, reckless spending yes, but other than that, nope). But I do this a lot when I find a new thing to be obsessed with - I want to buy stuff related to it (and have done in the past). And, of course, we all know about my stationery addiction :D

6. I realised the other day that I don't necessarily want to write stories, but I want to make up characters and play about with them. Which I don't see as the same thing. Like, I'd write little vignettes about them, which one day might lead to a full story, but not make them up and then think, "Right, I need a world and such and such for this to all go in!" which is how I've approached writing in the past. Unless it was fanfic, in which case I just did what my brain wanted, and stuff the consequences.

This section brought to you by thinking about making up skateboarding teenagers (very nebulously rn), but realising I didn't want to create a story involving skateboarding (even though it is a thing I love a lot).

I have kept forgetting to say this, because my brain is pile of goo, but my ginormous aloe has not ONE but TWO babies!

I was partly reminded because I wanted to repot the babies on their own, but then realised I didn't know how to separate them from the main plant (apparently I need a knife, and it's better to do it in spring). So I just rejigged them in the pot (the main plant had a serious tilt) and left it at that. (I did repot my birthday aloe that I got this year, though, as it was on the verge of outgrowing its pot).

In other news, I am reading a book! My work friend lent me Blackberry Wine by Joanne Harris. It is kind of eh. It's readable, and it's nice to have a book partly set in Yorkshire, but I am getting the distinct feeling that it's going to go absolutely nowhere. Also I don't like that the only people whose accents are written phonetically are the Yorkshire people. There's also an Irish woman and a whole bunch of French people, and their accents are written like the main character's i.e. with no dropped letters or weird spellings to make it clear how what they just said is pronounced. But that's a minor gripe, I guess? *shrug emoji*

I haven't played any video games for a while because...I don't know. I just haven't felt like it? And I think I'm going to go back to something else than Kingdoms of Amalur when I do feel like playing a console game. I will eventually beat FFV, though, because that's still on my list of unbeaten games.

And I don't know what else to say, so I'm going to end this entry here, because at some point I need to get myself ready for work instead of staring at a computer screen.
A list, because why not?

A. I saw a deer! Outside my house this morning!

Well, two, actually. I think they're a mother and daughter (one looks younger, and they're significantly different colours to each other). I've seen them fairly regularly this year, which is the coolest thing!

B. I got a neat craft haul from work, which I jumped on, because there were washi tapes (I totally don't have a problem, I swear). And then I discovered there were shiny textured papers as well??? AWESOME! (I might take a pic for my sketchblog since it's been forever since I last updated there).

Bb. I decided since I have so many papers and stuff now, I ought to get on and make some collages.

C. I started a new game of Kingdoms of Amalur the other afternoon, since I was going to do that anyway, but then I watched Ellen from Outside Xtra streaming the remaster, and I thought why the heck not? So I did. (I didn't realise the remaster was out already, but I guess that shows me, eh).

I'm trying to make a magic user/stealthy type this time, as I did a warrior for my first playthrough (I tend to do that just to get a hang of the game). She is a Dokkalfar, with white eyes, red hair, and greener skin than I intended. I don't mind her having green skin, it just didn't look like that in the character creator *shakes tiny fists*

D. I made my first cloth covered book last week, and it came out (mostly) okay! I ended up gluing the text block in a little wonky, but I know how to fix that, so I'm probably going to do that soon. Again, I want to take pictures of the books I've made for my sketchblog, but with everything going on at the moment, I just haven't felt like I've had the energy.

E. I don't have an E, but as usual, I don't know how to end this entry!

I baked some banana bread the other day. It smelt delicious while cooking, so I had a piece when it had cooled down and it did what my baking usually does. It didn't taste of anything, which always disappoints me, and you'd think I'd remember this by now. So I left it out overnight, and had another piece the next day, and it tasted almost as delicious as it had while it was cooking.

I.

I don't know, you guys. (I'm sure there's a scientific explanation).

Anyway, I sliced and froze the rest, as I have a cake I bought from the supermarket a while back that needs eating first (I'd way rather eat the banana bread, but I'd also rather not waste food).

I realised it is the first thing I baked since last November (I thought it was October, but a tweet I found told me different). I cook my food most the time, but I haven't baked for how long???? I think it's being out of the habit, to some degree. It was more fun to bake when I had someone to share it with, and when mum felt more like eating things. But I've decided I'm going to bake and freeze more stuff because a) I have a decent sized freezer and b) perhaps if I freeze things in portions, it will stop me buying cake at the supermarket. (I've got nothing against supermarket cake, but it's such an impulse buy, and I know it, and also there is just me. One average sized cake lasts me forever).

Also I've got loads of frozen fruit now, so I can make lots of things with fruit in!

In video game news, I got to Braska's Final Aeon in FFX. I was quite surprised to see on my save file that it said the last time I played was nearer the start of April. I didn't realise it had been so long.

I think I need to do a tiny bit of levelling up/equip everyone with Stoneproof armour, and also remember to unequip Lavaetin from Yuna (because, while it has SOS Overdrive, I realised that while it's equipped, it doesn't charge the gauge at all. So it makes more sense for her to be equipped with something else, and her gauge charge normally because I have her set to Healer for that, and, well, that's what she does).

So I might try that tonight and see how it goes!

In nature related news:

1. I planted some alliums in the garden years ago. They reflower every year, but this year they are a) not stringy looking and b) there's loads of them! There's even a new cluster started a little way over from the old batch.

2. while I was out in the garden, dinking around on Tuesday, I saw a goldfinch in the oak tree across the road. I wouldn't have even seen it then, but that the cat was watching me/the birds, and I happened to look in the same direction as her. And there it was, on a bare branch.

I'm really pleased to see one - I know there's a small colony of them nearby (I sometimes see them flitting about there) - but it's been a while since I've seen one near the house.
Films watched recently:

I got to see a grey wagtail really close to today!

A man had come to take away our bureau because we don't use it, and don't want it, and figured someone should get some money for it. Anyway, I'd helped him take it to his car, as it was just him had turned up, and it is rather heavy. As I was coming back along the back path to the house, I saw a bird on the wall near by. It was small, had its back to me, and had a long, floppy tail. Of course, it flew the moment it realised a human was there, but then it landed not so far away, and I got a proper look at it and ID'ed it. Then it flew off again.

I've never seen a wagtail that close up before. There are a lot of them around here, but they're mostly the black and white ones, which are way more common than the greys (which are predominantly green and yellow, so the name is somewhat of a misnomer). But we do have a small colony of greys nearby. It was nice to see one that close, anyway.

(I feel like it should've given me a quest. Maybe it flew off because I wasn't the one to receive it?)
