Not to complain about the weather again, but the top temp we hit last week was 31°C in town. That was around a week ago, and was the peak of it, but ughhhhhhh. I think prolonged heat is worse than a few days of abnormal heat. It's cooler now, and it did actually rain overnight last night (after two days of being promised rain and it not happening), so everything feels 900% better now.

In other news:

# I wrote and posted the first art supply review for my ko-fi!

I'm planning on putting two of these up a month, since they're not very long*, and there's plenty of things (for now) that I can talk about.

I'm also going to put together some posts that anyone can access without having to pay for, because I thought the topic of at least one might be interesting, and also I know how irritating it is to click a link you want to read, only to discover it is paywalled.

And I did some more print tests yesterday, so a shop update will be coming soon! I am also going to update my redbubble store with some stuff as well, but I'll link to that when I've done it.

# I tried my Redbush tea and...I did not like it. It was certainly nicer than the Tetley one, but it tasted, looked, and smelt too much like black tea for my liking.

I also had some Blackcurrant and Blueberry tea, which was okay (miles better than the Redbush), but tasted too much of blackcurrant. Like, if I wanted hot blackcurrant, I'd drink Ribena. I am now onto Cherry and Cinnamon, which I've had before, and is lovely.

# Got a spoilery theory for Ni no Kuni, which I'm going to post now before it gets disproven!

spoilers! )

Like I say, I don't know if any of this is right or not or if, as I often do, I am putting the clues together wrongly. Oh well, we'll see once I finish the game (if I do). Also if you have played it, or know the plot at all, DO NOT tell me if I'm right or not. I want to see this play out for myself, thank you very much.

*They were originally intended to be audio posts, but I kept putting it off because I feel self-conscious about recording myself. So now they're just short text posts.

We're having another heatwave! The temps could get to 29°C!

I went out shopping yesterday thinking I'd go while it was cool, and it was 22° by the time I was waiting to come home at 10:30am. UGH.

I could have - and should have, really - gone shopping on Monday, but I didn't in part because I had to take the cat to the vet for her yearly boosters, and that drained me. I don't like putting her in the carrier, and I know she doesn't like being in there (she made some of the saddest MOWs while we were on the bus both going and coming back). But she went in probably the easiest she ever has, and I almost cried from the relief*.

We got seen early, which was nice! (I was legit the only person in the surgery who wasn't staff) And the vet weighed Jazz, and she has finally lost some weight! \o/ So now she's closer to 5.5kg than 6. Which is good news for my arms!

So because that stressed me out so much, I didn't think about going back into town in the afternoon to pick up food/library books. Which, as I say, I should have, because Monday was the coolest day of the week.

ANYWAY. It's done now. I ain't going out for the rest of the week if I can help it.

In Ni no Kuni, I am chugging along, although I was having difficulty with a boss, so now I've had to go back to an earlier save and do some grinding, ugh.

I was saving to one file only because I wasn't finding it that difficult, but then I read a post on the subreddit for the game, where someone had (somehow!) got further than me at way lower of a level, and was now stuck, unable to grind, and only had the one save file.

So I'm glad I did that. I think I could've still gone back from where the boss fight was, but it just felt better going back to the previous save, even though it lost me a few hours of gameplay and a forced stealth section.

(Turns out a lot of people have trouble with this boss on their first encounter, even if they've played the game before, so I'm glad it's not just me).

And finally, I got my first member on ko-fi! \o/ I got the email notif last night, just before I went to sleep, and assumed it was one pinging me to say someone I follow had uploaded something (because it usually is), but nope!

As with redbubble sales, I'm not going to post every time this happens, as I can imagine it's annoying, but my first ever member is something to be celebrated!

*I keep thinking my mood has levelled out, and then something like this happens. See also: me telling Oliver in Ni no Kuni not to cry or he'll set me off.
I don't think I mentioned it, but back when I was replaying FFXIII on the PS3, the fan kept switching itself on after about half an hour's gameplay and chugging really loudly. I thought this was weird, but figured maybe the PS3 was giving up the ghost (I got it second hand, and I don't know how much its previous owner used it). So I didn't ever play on it for very long, because I was worried about breaking it.

Around the same time, a friend of mine mentioned that she and her partner had recently cleaned the vents on their PS4 to get it working again. I filed this information away, but didn't do a lot with it until yesterday.

My PS3 is one of the slim consoles, so it's still fairly chonky, and the only visible vents are the ones at the back. OR SO I THOUGHT. When I was setting it up to play Ni no Kuni, I took a look over the whole thing, and saw down both sides there are also what appear to be smaller vents? And they were dusty a f. So I took a toothpick to them, and cleaned them out.

And then later on in the day, I played some more Ni no Kuni and I am pleased to report that, while I could hear the fan running, it no longer chugged like it was about to fall over! \o/ Which is good, because I don't remember it doing this until recently anyway - though I think the last game I played on it before FFXIII was Dark Souls II, which would have been nine months prior, so that's nine more months of dust, right there.

(Okay, apparently the PS3 has a self-cleaning function???? Need to bear this in mind for future reference! I didn't get the manual with this when I got it, so that explains why I don't know about it. Although it's possible the manual was as useful as the PS4 one, which is to say not at all).

So yeah, now I've played a bit more Ni no Kuni:

Do you like puns? Then you will LOVE the English translation of this game, because not even two hours into the game, the puns are off the frikken charts.

Also there are cat people called Grimalkins and they are, of course, adorable (because they're cats).

The combat so far reminds me of Dragon Quest VIII (since that's the only one I've played), and the victory posing makes me think of The Last Remnant. I don't know why, it just does - although the enemy designs are on the cute side, which probably explains the DQ similarities? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ There are no metal slimes, though, as far as I am aware!

I have already had to do a little bit of grinding, but it wasn't too painful? I haven't been actively avoiding enemies, but when I went into the Obligatory Sewer Level, I got pasted by the enemies there, so went and did a bit of grinding, and then things went a bit more smoothly.

I still have no real thoughts about it thus far, but I don't hate it? Which is good. One of the reasons I put off playing it for so long was that I thought I might. But I don't, so yay!

I have done it! I have beaten the PSX version of FFIV! \o/

It took, imo, way too much grinding (everyone was low to mid sixties in levels) BUT it only took me five attempts to beat Zeromus, so ??? I guess it worked out okay in the end?

I got all the top tier weapons except for the lance guarded by the Plague Horror, since I think that would require ridiculous amounts of grinding for damage output to best the Doom spell it casts. I know there are strats to beat it at expected levels, but I just could not be bothered.

But anyway! I beat the game, and that is all that matters!

And then I swapped out my PS2 for my PS3 and finally started Ni no Kuni. Or, rather, I did after: the PS3 updated; Sony told me I needed a new, randomly generated password in a very frustrating, badly worded way; and then the game itself needed to install to the HD so I could listen to the JP voice track.

All of which took 45 minutes or thereabouts in total, and I was already tired and thus not amused.

I have no particular thoughts about it so far, as I am less than an hour in. I'm not sure I like the 3D style of it, but I found that a bit weird about Pokemon Moon, as well. (It's just an imo; if it looks like a cartoon/anime/thing I am more familiar with in 2D, then it feels off seeing it in 3D. YMMV, of course).

Although, very early game spoiler )

I don't like Drippy's accent being phonetic in the subtitles when he says your and our, though, especially since he doesn't do it on any other word a Welsh person might pronounce differently to an English (or American) one. But I guess that's just a minor niggle.

I don't know if I will get the sequel, yet, although I probably will eventually because Ghibli aesthetics + RPG is a happy place I didn't know existed/I needed! (And I don't know why I put off playing it for so long, omg).

Also for reference, I'm playing the PS3 version, not the PS4 remaster. I don't know if there are any differences between them.

In non-me game related stuff, I've been watching Ian from Eurogamer and Ellen from Outside Xtra playing Stray. Ian played the first three hours on EG's channel, but then finished it off in two streams on his personal channel. Ellen is way behind, but that's okay. I don't mind watching her take her time with it (not that Ian rushed through it, but she's certainly taken longer than he did to get where she's going, and that's okay).

It is not the game I thought it was going to be, but that's also okay. I like what it is (apart from certain few and far between sections). potential spoiler )

~

I think that's all I've got for now, so I shall stop here and hit post!
