I finally finished watching that Earthbound LP I started watching back last year! And then I put on an LP of the GBA version of FFV, since [personal profile] lassarina had mentioned that it has a better translation than the PSX version (which is the only version I own).

It has been so long since I played (back before 2010!) that I can't really remember much of anything. So I can't even compare the translation differences, but knowing what the other ones are like (I've also got I, II, IV, and VI for PSX), I can see that this is an improvement.

I did consider getting a copy for myself, but I'd rather buy IV, and I can do art/creative stuff while watching someone else play.

~

Anyway, I'm a day late on the Post Once A Day meme:

[personal profile] thenicochan asks: Who is your favorite FFXII character/ship?

CAPTAIN BASCH FON RONSENBERG OF DALMASCA.

*ahem*

Um, yeah. I've got nothing else on that, really. He is a combination of some tropes I like, and yeah, that's it.

As for ships, I don't really have any any more? I used to ship Basch and Penelo, and also Fran and Balthier, but I just don't now (I don't know why possibly lack of fandom involvement/I got old and boring).

The end of the video game meme!

# I've spent most of the past week playing mobile games on my phone. I don't care! This is the most video games I've played in ages! (I have abandoned the Earthbound LP, which is not good, I suppose, but I want to be doing, not just watching. Weirdly, I've left off in the same place I had a hiatus in the game when I played it myself (which is in Scaraba, though I was in the pyramid, and the LP is at the beginning of Dungeon Man's dungeon) ).

# I was able to get an early upgrade from EE, so I opted for a Sony Xperia XA1, which is not the newest model, but I don't care. I rarely ever have the most up to date phone anyway. This one was good, though, because I've also upgraded my data allowance (from 2Gb per month to 10Gb) - as when I was out a lot last summer, I kept hitting my limit, so hopefully this will avoid that! (And it's the same price as I'm paying now, so it's all good).

I ordered it mere hours ago and it is arriving tomorrow!!! Apparently I have to provide photo ID to prove it's coming to the right person, but I don't actually have any photo ID (I don't drive, and I've never left the country). I hope there won't be a problem, though. I didn't know before I put the order in that I'd need ID. *crosses fingers and toes*

# I just ordered a memory card that is twice the capacity of my new phone, oh my.

# I've only slept two nights on my new mattress, and badly to boot, but I feel better rested? Which is good news. Just hope I can get some better sleep in soon!
# I think having reading glasses partially explains why I've been skimming my friends list and not commenting for months. Aside from mental tiredness (thus not really wanting to read long posts), I've found longer posts kind of hard to get through. Which would make sense if I was finding it a strain to read. Which I evidently was!

I'm going to have to go back to the optician, though, because the one arm digs into my head just behind my ear and it hurts like heck. So hopefully that can be sorted.

# Been doing some arts! Did a couple of Earthbound pics, as I am still watching the LP. I did one of them on coloured paper and then was like, "WHY DO I NOT DO THIS MORE OFTEN BC IT LOOKS AWESOME!", so I did, and I redid a demon from one of the SMT games that I did for Inktober the year before last.

I also want to know why they do not make sketchbooks with coloured pages (they probably do and I've just never seen them). Or like, pads of decent weight paper that is coloured (ditto, though I could just use pastel paper for that).

# Earthbound LP has not advanced very far. We have just gone into Dungeon Man's dungeon in Scaraba.

# I also have been attempting to transcribe music. I think I've done okay with the piece I've been working on (since it is super simple and gets stuck in my head all the time anyway). I'll have to find something else to work on next, I think.

# I think my Pocket Camp save is corrupted, or something. I submitted a help request via the app, and they suggested a data restore. So I did that. It took four fucking hours to download (I think this is a double combo of shitty internet, but also load on Nintendo's servers). That did not work. So I did an uninstall/reinstall. And then downloaded my save data again, which took almost four hours again. It still did not work.

So I have tried talking to one of the animals in the hopes that maybe that will jiggle the code to, IDK, fucking do something.

I'm really angry about this. It's been a week (or more now) since it bugged out and it hasn't fixed/been fixed. A bug I didn't even know about was sorted, though, so I guess that's okay! [/sarcasm]

Although from looking at stuff on the internet, it seems I'm not the only one who has had problems with the game, which doesn't make me feel better, but at least I know it's not just me.
So, my eyetest!

The optician was really pleased with my eyes. She says my eyes are perfectly healthy, which is great news! She also took photos of my retinas, and explained that as someone who is short-sighted, I have to be aware of retinal detachment, because people who are short-sighted have thinner retinas. Sorry for the long sentence, but it's to explain the next part. She said, looking at my retinas, that they show no signs of thinning AT ALL, and if she didn't already know I was short-sighted, she would not have been able to tell from looking at them. So that was kind of awesome?

However.

As I suspected, my eyesight has got worse. My distance vision is fine, and hasn't changed in the two years since my last test. My near sight, on the other hand, is worse. I had suspected this, since I've had a lot of problems doing close work/reading in the past few months. So I have to have reading glasses now!

I chose myself an ugly-ish pair of frames, because I couldn't find a nice pair (I like the style of the frames in theory, but they're too heavy for me, really). The lenses will be plastic instead of glass, since I'm not intending to use them outside the house, so I don't owe anything towards them! \o/

(Gods bless the NHS and help towards medical treatments).

They will be ready by Monday, so hopefully I can pick them up then.

Squeenix Final Fantasy 30th Anniversary Quiz

(I did it and got 77% because they would insist on giving me questions about games I haven't played! But I got a 10% discount code for the Squeenix store, so I had a look and bought myself a 30th anniversary tote and a CACTUAR PLUSH. Because I am almost thirty seven, and obviously I need those things).

~

In the Earthbound LP, we have just done Moonside, and are about to go and beat up the Robot in the Monotoli building, I think?? (I haven't been able to watch any today, as I've been doing Other Stuff™, so I don't really remember exactly where I got to). Anyway, looking forward to watching some more tomorrow!
I did not carry on with watching Resident Evil longplays. I instead opted for Earthbound, as this week's been somewhat stressy, and I wanted to watch something a bit more cheerful (I know EB is terrifying when you think about it, but the fight descriptors and the music and the sprites make me smile. SO). I am currently just before Saturn Valley.

Oh, and talking of games, I randomly found out last night that Miitomo is closing down? I haven't touched it in over a year, so if I hadn't seen someone I follow on twitter talking about it, I never would have known. I still have it installed on my phone because now and then I've thought about going back on it, but it just...didn't grab me after a while. I may as well delete it now, I guess, because there's no point keeping it (and I never made any more Miis besides myself, and I've already got one of me on my 2DS anyway, so I don't need to save it. I feel like I am rambling!)

Anyway, I guess the point is that I am not entirely sad to see it go, but I kind of am? *shrugs*

~

I knitted a scarf while scaring myself with zombies! It was using the expensive cotton yarn I bought back last year (I wish I'd bought two skeins now, but it was expensive, so I couldn't justify it to myself).

I've done bits and bats of drawing, and am thinking about making a bunch of paintings of busts of people, because that's all I seem to be drawing right now (or wanting to draw, outside of making animal characters. Though I've lost steam on that, because I want a world for them to exist in before I make them, and I don't know about that yet).

~

I've got an eye test on Monday, and I'm actually looking forward to it, because I think my eyes have been funky for about a year at this point. I'm hoping my eyesight has changed enough to get a new pair of glasses, because the ones I've got are doing my nut (the sides dig into my head when I have headphones on and gdi, it hurts us precious). Also I'd like slightly bigger lenses, as I don't feel I've been able to see so well on the edges of my vision. And it would be nice to be able to see well again.
Hey, so on Sunday I wasted a dragon!

It took nearly an hour, but I did it (probably because, like everything else, I neglected tactics in favour of hacking/slashing/trying to beat the crap out of it). Also it didn't help that my pawns seemed to be particularly squishy and so died about five times each (Simon maybe a bit less than the other two, but even so).

I wasn't sure I was going to do it, and I almost ran out of healing items, but I did it, and that is all that matters!

I wish that was the end of Dragon's Dogma, but it isn't. I mean yeah, you're not forced to play the bit after that, but technically killing the dragon isn't the end of the game (in spite of the voice cast credits appearing afterwards*). Anyway all the enemies are different now and there are GIANT UNDEAD, ARISEN! everywhere and basically I'm legging it and not fighting, and I got to the waycastle between Cassardis and Gran Soren and I'm not sure I want to continue (it's only going to get worse from here, for there is the extra dungeon from HELL to be contended with).

Also the game thought my romance was Aelinore, which I suppose is slightly less weird than one of the shopkeepers, but I only spoke to her ONCE!

~

Considering replaying Earthbound. It's been five years or over, and it's a great game (it's certainly one of the oddest I've ever played). I've thought about replaying off and on since I first finished it, but I never have (and yeah, maybe I should get and play some of those games I've never even touched but you know what? I don't want to).

Anyway, I'm currently reading a Let's Play of it, and enjoying that so I don't see why I wouldn't enjoy a replay (except for the oak tree enemies in Peaceful Rest Valley. They can go fuck themselves, if oak trees can do that sort of thing). So I might do that some day soon!

~

*My brain is fried from lack of sleep so it's taken me a while to remember if there were even credits, and even now I don't know if they were full ones or just the voice actors.

Did someone say artdump? Sure, why not?

+10 pics, mostly original art )

Comments and/or crits welcome! Also should I make tags for my original characters? There obviously aren't enough pictures of them at the moment and whatnot, but what do you think?
