My brother brought my nephew to visit. I showed him some of my dice, since one of the words we taught him to say when he was learning to talk was "dodecahedron" and, well, that's what a d12 is. He likes my glittery dice, and I think the d20 is his favourite. He wanted to play a dice game with me, but I didn't know any, so then he sulked, till I said I'd get my cards and we could play Snap. He was more interested in seeing that some of the cards had the same suit and numbers than he was matching pairs, but he is only four, so I can't really blame him.

I STG when he's older I'm going to play tabletop RPGs with him. Obviously I won't if he isn't interested, but if he is, I will. But I think four is way too young for any of that right now.

So I'm going to learn a couple of dice games instead, and see what he thinks of those instead.

Also, I have retweeted, and will continue to retweet useful links and stuff on my twitter [twitter.com profile] rootsandbones, so if you scroll down my timeline, you'll find them. There are also some nice/cute animal pictures, and some comics by people I like/know.

I've been trying to find the lj entry where I read about switching everyone's paths in FFX, but I have no idea how long ago it was, nor who posted it. I don't even know what to google for. Not so much because I don't know what I'm doing (I sort of do. I spent three hours grinding today WHICH I HATE BY THE WAY for that very reason. Also to shift Rikku over to Auron's grid, but I need to use her more because that's not happening - she's still too close to her own right now). I am SO SICK of hearing Movement In Green because of it, and I freaking love that track. I suppose I should've shut the sound off and put some of my own music on, but that didn't really occur to me.

(Talking of music, I FINALLY have hold of a decent music theory book that makes sense! HURRAH).

I'm sick of fighting Ochus, too (they have too much HP and I am not strong enough. PFFT).

Oh yes, I watched The Wolverine!

It was OK (to be fair, I went in expecting it to be probably shite, so all in all a good time was had). I'm glad I'm not more familiar with the arc they adapted, although in some ways I wish I was, because there were things I had assumed were true about Wolverine (comicsverse) that actually might not be (although as we know comics and movie verse are unmixy things). The stinger mid-credits was tosh, though. I don't really care about Days of Future Past, and it felt tacked on and a bit hokey to me.

I thought the fights were interestingly choreographed, which is always good. The story was all right, and I liked Mariko and Yukio kicking ass, and now I want a film about Logan and Yukio kicking ass together because I think it would be awesome. (I wasn't sold on the romance even though I knew it happened anyway). Heck, I would actually watch a film about Mariko kicking ass. That would be cool (but it will NEVER HAPPEN *sighs*)

Then I discovered on Thursday that I could've just borrowed it off Jackie's husband instead of renting it. (I didn't think to ask because Jackie isn't into comics/superhero films anyway, and I don't know what her husband's into except video games. OH WELL. Maybe I will learn for next time).

THIS! THIS IS A THING!

World Building and the Okapi's Butt, by [livejournal.com profile] ursulav.

The reference to the Okapi's butt makes sense in context and, on reading that and the comments, makes me think - The World of Darkness is full of what should just be Okapi butts on sticks, and aren't. There too many Okapi, and not enough butts on sticks.

(But this is a personal gripe of mine. If you like the way the World of Darkness is written, then that's OK).

And if you don't know why I'm carping on about this, don't worry. Just read the entry about world-building, if such things interest you (and now I know I can write about Okapi butts on sticks and not have to worry about it! \o/)

(Mind you, not that I am thinking about fiction writing right now).

In better news, [livejournal.com profile] ursulav riffs on Peter Pan, here, in a story called "Never" (I seriously love Ursula's writing because it's so awesome, but there's been something extra-awesome about the last two stories of hers that I've read.

~*~

Started playing Nocturne where I left off. Which was at Matador (AKA that game's That One Boss). I've had my arse pasted to the pavement three times already (even though I've followed some of the advice that I remembered from last time - i.e. Hitoshura is level 18, and I've got an Uzume. Beyond that, I know sod all else, so I need to look at a walkthrough - which, now I've done that, is no help. It says exactly what I've done, and then beat the crap out of him with physical attacks. Sigh (although maybe I should swap my Sudama for something else, since it's the weakest demon I have).

I thought about restarting, but I really couldn't be bothered. I'm not that far in, and I kind of know/remember what happened up to that point anyway.

I'm also not aiming for a specific ending, I'm just going to go with the flow and see what happens in the end. Though I can't see myself siding with either Isamu and Chiaki, but I guess we'll see when it comes to it, eh?
Mum: What are you doing?

Me: Complaining on the internet about comics!

Mum: Oh. OK. Er. Have fun?

[livejournal.com profile] ursulav writes her own version of Little Red Riding Hood, in which the hood is not red, nor is it for riding, and...the story might not quite be the same as the one you're familiar with.

YAY INTERNET RESEARCH! In other words, my Google-fu is totally working (I knew the intertubes would be the best place to look, really. Urban myths abound out here :D ) Maybe I will get this fic written after all \o/
