If I could stop being achy and stiff, that would be super awesome. I felt really stiff for most of today, and I can only conclude that it's because it was so cold today. (We are finally having reasonable temps! Though today was only 13°C for most of the day, which is way freaking colder than it has been, which has been high teens/very low twenties). But yeah, it makes me feel so awkward and clumsy, and I wish it didn't happen.

(I wish I knew how to fix it. I think it's only really been a problem for the last year or so, but IDK how I'd even describe it to the doctor if I went?)

~

In other news, I have been catching up on Critical Role (still, because it is my eternal state of being), and I am almost at the episode where spoiler happens! ) That was another one of the things that made me want to watch the show in the first place (the other being Victor; I saw a clip where Percy visits him for the second time and it just...I found hilarious even though I had no context for any of it at the time).

I am getting somewhat bored of the Chroma Conclave now, though. I get why it worked out to take up so much of the story (because it's literally the fate of the world), but oh man. I've found myself not paying attention a lot of the time lately. I mean, that's partly because my attention span is not the greatest but also oh yes, dragons. I'll probably get back into it a bit better when I don't feel like death warmed over all the time.

~

I reinstalled Duolingo to do some Welsh, and I don't like the new interface. I'll probably get used to it but blergh, wth.
So I did really well with making weekly recaps of what's been posted on my tumblr for anyone who wasn't on there, didn't I?

WHERE HAS THIS YEAR GONE.

Anyway, I'm going to do a catch up, starting now. Some of what I posted was reblogs of old stuff that I still like, so I won't link that here. Just the new stuff.

Some of which is this way!

Today has been a good reminder that I do have friends and I do know people who like me. Because my mood's been all over the place for the last few days, and thinking that nobody likes me. But today I was out in town, and I met three people I knew, one of whom deliberately called out to me to get my attention and obviously she wouldn't have done that if she didn't like me/want to talk to me (though we couldn't really talk then, as I was heading to the bus station - luckily I saw her again later so we talked then and it was good).

~*~

As it turns out, there is a completely Welsh version of Hinterland - that's what got shown on S4C first (because, I discovered the other day that, since Wales went digital, S4C don't show anything in English any more. Well, I mean, why should they?)

So obviously I am going to have to fork out for DVDs when they come out (because they're releasing the Welsh version as well as the bilingual, which is FRIKKEN GREAT), because I said I'd pay to watch that and damnit, I will.

~*~

Anyway, I don't know if there were going to be more words here, but I am really tired, so I'm going to sleep now.

I swear I had things to write about and POOF! they are gone from my head as soon as I bring up the post box. *sigh*

So, maybe, a list?

# my mum is reading Discworld! (I may mentioned this before?? Sorry if that's the case) This has been a 20 year battle, because I've always read her bits I've found amusing, and she found them amusing, too, but when it came to read a book, she'd never manage to finish one. I don't know what I did right this time, but she's powered through Wyrd Sisters, Men at Arms (she wasn't so keen on that), and Monstrous Regiment (yes, we are being non-chronological because why the hell not? I've never read them in order). She is going to read Witches Abroad next.

(I'm saving up Pyramids and Thief of Time because they're the two I like best. Actually, given my Egyptology fetish has raised its head again, maybe I should re-read Pyramids).

# I made a second sale on Etsy! *dances* (I can't remember if I posted about the first one, sorry).

# OH YES. Has anyone else in the UK been watching Hinterland on BBC Four? MAN I LOVE IT. Not just because it is full of Every Welsh Actor You've Seen In Everything Ever™ ;) or because it is in English AND Welsh (with Eng subs) but because I like the way it's written and where it might be going. I even have Theories. I like that there is obviously Something Tragic in the main character's background, but you only get hints about what it might be (hence the Theories), and he doesn't wangst about it every single episode (he COULD. He so easily COULD, but he DOESN'T and that's part of what makes this show great).

Also I think going on long runs is the new drinking for TV detectives :D

I now also want to drop everything and refresh/relearn Welsh (I am SO VERY BAD at it).

(I think if I lived in Aberystwyth (which I never did; I was further north), I would just set up camp in the National Library and not come out because BOOKS).

# I am totally boning up on mythology at the moment. I don't know enough about Greek mythology, even though it is everywhere, and I DEFINITELY don't know enough Welsh (I vaguely know about Taliesin/Gwidion, and it turns out I know the story about Pwyll and Arrawn, but THAT'S IT. I am SUCH a loser).

(I did start reading the Mabinogion once, but obviously didn't get very far).

# Also I totally have a mythology tag. WHO KNEW?

# I think that is everything for now, I hope you are all well :)

I finished my nephew's cardigan (progress shots are available on my tumblr - [tumblr.com profile] muladhara). It's spent the last two days blocking in the kitchen and is now finally dry! \o/

I am so pleased with it, and it's the first piece of clothing I've ever made.

Now for the next one!

(Well, after I have finished knitting this burp cloth. After a visit from my brother and nephew on Friday, mum and I came to realise that we are woefully unprepared for a child in this house. So I went out and bought some rusk-type baby biscuits, some soft plastic spoons*, and I'm knitting the burp cloth. I'm also going to make some toys, a blanket, and a box to put them all in).

*I didn't buy soft baby food because it turns out that my sister in law puts some in the baby's bag for emergencies.

Talking of babies, me and mum watched some of the kids' TV on S4C at dinner time. Because we didn't watch the tennis. Anyway.

A) It's nice to know Welsh voice actors sound as terrible as English speaking ones (Large Ham, anyone?)
B) The Welsh are totally into princes, princesses, kings, and queens, right? Oh, and castles. Words learnt today: brenhin, brenhines, brenhinol** (king/queen/royal)
C) Kids' TV is irritating to adults no matter what language it's in.

**Feel free to correct spellings. I don't have my Welsh/English dictionary handy, I didn't ask my mum, and I can't be bothered to check google translate because fuck that shit.

We came to the conclusion that we may show my nephew some of it when he's older. I'd like him to be at least a bit familiar with Welsh (although he will grow up bilingually speaking English/Afrikaans, which is pretty damned cool anyway).

~*~

I was going to say some other stuff, but I've since forgotten it, and now I need to be asleep anyway. So I should go and do that.
I slur worse when speaking Afrikaans than I do when speaking English. This does not bode well for my ever speaking German well.

EDIT: wonder how it works with Welsh? Haven't really noticed, but...hmm. Maybe I should check it out.

~*~

Unrelated: Not that I mind (or am complaining), but I think the mythology/fairy tale bug chose the wrong time to bite me.
I learnt to speak Welsh, once (I'm not very good at it because no bugger speaks it much outside of Wales*). I'm glad I did, though, because if I hadn't learnt about all the different mutations in Welsh, I never would've spotted them in Japanese.

If you think they don't exist, you're doing it wrong (or not reading your dictionary right).

I would provide examples, but I can't think of any. So, uh, talk amongst yourselves.

~*~

*Aside from that one place in Patagonia, but that's a story for another time.
