I just impulse bought my first ever Fitbit! Argos had one of the older models on special offer, and I'd been eyeing it up a few months ago when one of the lasses I work with bought a different one for her mum for Mother's Day. So I didn't know it was still available (or even available for delivery*). But it was, so I impulse bought it!

Which is hilarious when you consider that, after I'd had my tattoos done, I was considering not wearing a watch at all because it was annoying me. (I tried taking it off one day in work recently, and got really frustrated because it turns out I look at my watch A LOT).

Anyway, as with the Huawei ones that I've had in the past, this one is adequate for what I want it to do, and that's fine for me. I just want a watch that tells me steps and distance, and the time. I don't trust sleep trackers, and I'm not fussed for a heart monitor (although this one will have both those things). Also it would be nice to have a watch that connects to my phone again - my current Huawei one doesn't because the software isn't available for my Pixel, booo.

I did think about getting a more expensive one, but I think the money saved is better spent on something I actually need, rather than something like this, which feels like a frivolity right now.

I dyed my hair red again for the first time in YEARS and as soon as I saw myself in the mirror, I was like, "YES! THIS is my hair colour!"

It's not that I begrudge my natural colour (very dark brown, going grey in some places), but a redder toned hair just feels right to me for some reason. So I'm probably going to keep this up going forward. I said to my sister in law the other day that I'm not vain, but I do like dyeing my hair and doing my nails (currently Brisk Blue by Barry M). It makes me happy, you know? And despite what my brain tells me, I do deserve to be happy sometimes.

~

In other news, I downloaded and logged into Pokemon Go for the first time in almost five years. I did this so I could swap mons with my nephew, as he is big into Pokemon at the moment. And also I've been wanting a game to play with him that doesn't require us to be in the same room/building, so this is ideal.

So much has changed since I last played! My village now has two gyms, and a whole load of stops! (There were THREE STOPS in the entire place last time I played, and the nearest gym was the bandstand in town).

Hopefully it won't drain my phone battery as much as it used to, but I'm not planning to play it in the same way as before - I'm legit going to only play when I'm stuck at the bus station, or something. Or maybe if I go out for walks when it's not raining, idk. I get a lot of steps in at work, though, so I should be able to hatch a bunch of stuff? I don't know. I don't even know if it plays in the same way as before. Time to go back to Trainer Tips videos, I guess? (Assuming he's still making them, that is).

~

*Sometimes they'll show you stuff and then when you input your postcode for delivery they're like, "Ah, nope, sorry! You can't have that!" Which is fun! (not)

Got to Macalania in FFX, about to go and kick Seymour's arse.

I don't know if I am overlevelled or not, since there are no level markers, and I never count sphere grid progressions (though this would be easier to do if I could find my strategy guide, but it appears to have done one at some point in the last five years, and I Very Annoyed. I had that thing before I had the game, I think!*). Although obviously, the AP rewards are less, the more you progress through the grid, so I'm probably bang on where I should be. (I haven't actually fled from many fights, only ones where I've felt like I just can't be arsed, e.g. when it's my tenth Ochu in a row).

Ooh, and I think Tidus has a weapon I've never seen before? Or at least, I don't remember it. It's the Basilisk Steel, which has Stonetouch, and it's freaking amazing. I haven't bothered changing it because most of the time he petrifies an enemy, unless it's immune.

Also I hit 9999 damage with Ixion on...something yesterday, and it seems too early in the game to be getting that type of damage, especially with an Aeon.

An aside: I will never not boggle when someone says they pick three characters in FFX and stick to those three doggedly. Like. Half the fun of the battle system is the swapping mechanism! (I'm just reading some posts and just...yeah...)

~

I guess I should go out for a Pokewalk - the sun is out and it looks pleasant - but I just don't want to. I've been feeling really drained lately (I had a busy week this last week or so, including covering an extra shift at work), so the thought of going out is just...blergh right now. Also the clocks went forward last night/this morning so no doubt that will make me feel worse, because it always does.

Anyway, I've got a whole lot of the rest of the day to decide, so we'll see.

~

P.S. It's The Matrix's twentieth birthday today - well, anniversary of when it was released in the US - and I honestly can't believe it's been bending my brain for two decades. Holy flurking schnit, as they say.

(it wasn't released in the UK until the 11th of June, though that makes sense to me, as it fits with my memories of watching it the first time).

~

*I mean, it's in my room somewhere, but I've looked everywhere it should be, and a couple of places it isn't, and it hasn't been in any of those places. It will probably turn up once I've gone onto something else.

List post, because IDK, I feel like I can do those better at the moment?

1. I uninstalled Brave Exvius from my phone. I haven't been playing it, I don't feel the urge to, so...it's gone.

I thought I'd feel more sorry or more sad, but I don't, really.

2. I installed Ingress, which is made by Niantic, who are the people who make Pokemon Go. It is their previous game and...I think I'm going to uninstall it, because there's even less to do in it than there is in PoGo.

Paranoid teenage me would've loved this game. And it's got the instrumentality thing, which adult me loves. But...it would also require me to be in town every single day of the week and I can't afford to do that. Well, I suppose I could, but I don't want to.

I wanted to play it so I could get to level ten to nominate what may eventually become Pokestops, rather than wait until I get to level forty in PoGo, which will take FOREVER. But like, I can't even complete the tutorial in my village, because there's not enough places to stop (hence needing to be in town, because there's way more useable points there - there's also way more Ingress points than there are Pokestops/Gyms).

At least in PoGo, I can collect Pokemon, but in Ingress, all you do is wander around from one point to another, and that's it. There is a story line in that game, apparently, but I don't think I care enough to find it out.

3. Talking of PoGo, I defended my first gym this week! With a mediocre Snorlax, but I did it! I also finally caught Ditto!

I had a feeling, I don't know why, that it was going to be a Mankey - aside from the fact that there seem to be a lot of Mankey spawns where I live - but I didn't check absolutely every one I saw, because I don't always have the time (I mostly play on my way to work, and I don't want to be late. I even less want to be late because of a video game). ANYWAY. I got home after shopping yesterday, check what Mons were about, and went to catch a Mankey.

It took one Pokeball, and that's when I found out it was a Ditto. I caught it in my goshdanged house. Of all places.

4a. I am ~eight hours into Pokemon Moon and goshdang it to heck does that game make me sleepy.

I've said before that games make me sleepy anyway, but oh man. Moon takes the biscuit. I think it's because the dialogue is all text-based, and there's not a lot going on, and the soundtrack is chill.

Also I didn't know you didn't get a game over when you fail a fight! I got my first one versus the Fire Totem Pokemon, and yeah. That's kind of nice, but I suppose these are meant to be kids' games, so it would be mean if they punished you too harshly (also nice to see they don't do the Dragon Quest thing and take half your money/items).

4b. I am loving all the Pokemon fanart I've been seeing on twitter since Sword and Shield got announced. It makes me so happy to see other people so happy. Also I wasn't sold on Sobble till I saw the trailer but now I am (I liked the look of Sorbunny and am p neutral about Grookey, tbh).

5. Jazzy cat is three today!

(Apparently; today's date is what the RSPCA gave as her date of birth, and I'm not going to argue. We'll never know for sure, since she was a rescue).

I am a bad cat parent, and have not got her any special food (apart from Dreamies), because she already eats posh(ish) cat food. So I didn't know what to get her. I might cook some of the chicken I've got for her.

I did the walk up the Big Hill after all. Though not on the weekend, because between my shopping trip Saturday, and socialising Sunday, I didn't have the time or the inclination.

Saturday was my first community day playing PoGo, and I didn't really know what that meant, so I just went around collecting Mons, avoiding the swarms of Swinub (I'm not kidding - my park was STUFFED with them. I have a screencap of my avatar surrounded by them. I didn't really want any, and I didn't know about shiny hunting). I did see a lot of other players though. There was a gang of younger adults raiding the gym at the graveyard, and I left them alone because holy crap I feel like a very old fish out of water. Also I'm probably not going to get into raiding unless it's required or a Mon that's easily solo'd.

Sunday I took the same walk through the park on the way to the pub where I meet up with my comics friends. There was significantly less Swinub this time ;) In fact, I don't think I've seen one since then, so it's probably a good job I caught a few.

(Socialising was good although, as always, I felt awkward as fuck because I tend not to do much while there, and don't really participate in conversations. So I mostly sat and spun the nearest Pokestops - one of which was the very pub we were sitting in :D )

So yeah, the hill walk! The third stop that's "in" my village is at a five foot tall metal Tyrannosaur. It is up a steep hill. A steep hill that I used to walk up regularly as a teenager because that's what we did for fun before the internet was A Thing (when we weren't playing on my BFF's PSX, that is).

I haven't been on a decent sized walk for a few years or so now. I thought I'd planned my route so I'd avoid the steep bits. I was wrong. (I know it will get easier the more walking I do, though). I ended up going back on myself a bit in places, which was down to having not been on these paths in a while, but also thanks to not remembering where some paths were. ANYWAY.

I discovered there's a path that actually goes up next to the road at one point, which is good, because it's a road with no pavements, and people don't drive slowly up there (the road is wide enough at points, but I feel safer off it). I've walked that road so many times and only just discovered that that path is there. It's so weird!

I got to the dinosaur in the end, though it was very windy and cold up there (it's almost at the point where it's flat moorland, and because I'm in the bottom of the valley, I always forget it's colder up there). I don't think I will be going there again any time soon. I mean, it was a good walk, and I enjoyed it, but it's one of those things that would be nice to do with a friend, I think.

I thought I'd be absolutely crippled with achy muscles the next day but, because I'd already been doing two mile walks for the preceding week, it's not been too bad! The worst part by far is my shin muscles/tendons(?), but I think ninety percent of that is the impact of walking downhill on tarmac (I came back on the road because it was easier/quicker).

~

In non-walking/PoGo news, I just applied for a job! The first one in years! It made me lol because part of the application asked for salary expections, of which I have none, and I was just incredibly tempted to type, "IDK dude, an actual wage would be nice?"

It's twenty hours a week in Burnley, and only £8.05 an hour, so it's not going to make me masses of money, assuming I get it, but a job would be good. And it's not so far away, so the commute wouldn't be bad, either. I don't think I will get it, though, but it didn't mention a minimum amount of experience needed, so I thought I'd give it a go and see what happens.

Some things:

1. Thanks to everyone who recced me The Last of Us. I know it is a good game, and it has Ashley Johnson in it, but:

a. I like survival horror in principle. I don't play it because I am a big scaredy cat.
b. I have a feeling that game will break me, and I don't want that right now.
c. Cordyceps are terrifying enough in real life without them being used as the basis for a zombie infestation (see also why I will probably never read The Girl With All the Gifts, despite owning a copy).

2. I have finally managed to get a wheely trolly thinger for less than the one I was going to get originally! With next day delivery, it came to less than the previous one. Sadly, I could not choose the colour, and it is bright lime green. I was hoping for blue, but I suppose there might be some way to redye it.

I mean, the storage part does feel kind of cheap, but if it only lasts me a year, I'll be happy (it better last me longer, though). The frame and wheels are nice and sturdy, though, so that's good. Going to try it out tomorrow when I do the weekly shopping!

(also it's good because it means I can use it for transporting stuff to post AND stuff to and from (small) cons, if I start exhibiting).

3. Thanks to Pokemon Go, I have done two ~two mile walks in two days! I would do another today to hit up the local Pokestops, but that I am working this afternoon, and will be on my feet, and I'd rather not be an ow made flesh, thanks.

(Talking of ow made flesh, it turns out there's THREE pokestops in my village. Except the third is Up A Big Hill, and I don't know if my knees are up for that at the moment. Although then again, it's not far from where I used to walk to sometimes, so I might check it out over the weekend, I don't know).

Anyway, I caught a Pikachu on my second day, so I am kind of smug about that. It's a really crappy Pikachu, but it's a Pikachu nonetheless (my nephew will be excited to see it, I bet. Pikachu is his favourite).

I'm creeped out that Google Fit knows exactly where I went walking, though. I have it on for the Adventure Synch, otherwise I'd rarely hatch eggs or get candies from walking. But it's still creepy. TALKING OF WHICH. I hatched two eggs yesterday and got two p good Kricketots out of them.

4. I tried to play some FFXII yesterday, in order to get to the end (I know I know how it ends, etc, but I'm trying to make myself finish games instead of abandoning them. And I am SO CLOSE now to the end). And I've promised myself that if I do, then I can play Infinite Undiscovery on the 360. Or I might change my mind and play something else.

Anyway, the point of this was that not only did I keep getting mashed by the enemies in Giruvegan (fucking Behemoth types), but I then ran headfirst into an entite. I don't know what it is about this particular time I'm playing, but I don't think there's anywhere except the Estersand(?) where I haven't encountered an entite.

I feel sorry for people who play this game, not knowing about those arseholes. Especially because they can seem to be randomly generated.

(When I got the inevitable game over, because Behemoths, the next run into Giruvegan didn't have one at all. Yet surely the weather conditions are the same? Unless they reset on reload for the most part - except for Giza, where it's on a timer. I don't know, and I don't know if I really want to).

5. I didn't think I had much to say, hahahaha. Apologies. I'm going to go and read stuff now.
