I have spent the last two days watching Bioshock Infinite and the Burial at Sea DLC. I have ~feelings~ They are mostly "AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!" and lots of arm waving.

I got interested in this game a few years back. I forget exactly why, but it probably had something to do with TVT, and it was because of reading about the Lutece twins. So I went and looked at the page for it, and was all, "oh it's an FPS, NOPE", and gave it not much thought after that, apart from maybe occasionally pining if I saw a second-hand copy.

Because this game was so much my jam and I was so mad I couldn't/didn't want to play it because it's a first person shooter. (I can't really play them, as they make me nauseous/give me headaches. This is why I'll never play Halo, despite being massively invested in the story).

Also the other thing I'd found off-putting about it was Elizabeth's design, because she's way more cartoony looking than any other person in the game. If the entire style were like that, I wouldn't mind so much, but it kind of sticks out like a sore thumb. Also most of the caps I'd ever seen of her were from Burial at Sea, for whatever reason, and I like her design in that even less (I get she's meant to be older, but IDK, it just doesn't work for me).

Aaaanyway, then I mostly forgot about it. Then earlier this year, I saw a tweet from the lady who designed what the Lutece twins looked like (it's an artist I've heard of! Her name is Claire Hummel!), and she'd mentioned her influences for their designs, and it was awesome! And I was all, "OK, this is cool, but I still can't/don't want to play this game".

AND THEN. I was noodling around on Youtube one day, and I watched a Skyrim video about stuff you might not know. And YT was like, "hey, if you like that, you'll love this!" and it recommended me a video by a channel called Outside Xbox. So I started watching their videos. And it turns out Bioshock (the entire series) came up a fair bit in the month I spent watching them and their sister channel (Outside Xtra). Eventually, I got to a point where I thought perhaps I should just watch someone else play it, so that's what I did.

I have thoughts. I'm going to say they're spoilery from the outset, although I suppose that depends on how much you know about the game anyway?

here be MASSIVE spoilers! )

So yeah, all in all, I enjoyed it, and it stomped all over my heart. Which apparently is how I know I like something.

Now back to FFXIII, I guess!
(Subject line is my favourite quote of Balthier's. I thought he said it to someone else, but no, he says it Vaan).

OK so before I start, let me tell you that I am two episodes behind everyone else on Kill la Kill (no spoilers, thanks!) and I got SO DISTRACTED by FFXII, that I actually forgot to catch up today. I also have no interest in catching up tomorrow, either (I'll do it while I'm working instead :D )

(I love being self-employed. I can watch TV while I work and no-one tells me not to because I'M THE FREAKING BOSS).

*ahem*

Preliminary notes:

- this is the game that got me into Akihiko Yoshida's artwork and Hitoshi Sakimoto's music. Not a surprise, I know. I think both of them are equally awesome. I am sad that I wasn't more Yoshida's art at the time I was doing my HND because damn it would've been hilarious to see what my tutors made of his stuff (especially the one who had Opinions about what was and wasn't art and frankly as far as I am still concerned six years later, can go fuck himself).

SO THAT SAID, on with other stuff that may be spoilers! (From the start to arrival at Bhujerba - though there are spoilers for later game things, due to stuff I've been reading, so be warned).

And now I am at Bhujerba.

I was commenting on [personal profile] lassarina's post about Ivalice, and I realised I was missing some crucial icons, so I went and uploaded them. One of them is gracing this post (I think I've been without a paid account for so long that I forgot I can suddenly upload relevant/useless/pretty icons whenever I want).

I also had ~feelings~ because that's the way I feel about Ivalice (maybe more so than Mass Effect, even though I would flat out tell you ME is my favourite game, no questions asked). And, because of that post, I've been thinking (yet again) about playing Tactics (I suck at Tactics games), or Vagrant Story (I'm kind of afraid of it, even though I could finish it in a day? HOW STUPID IS THAT?) or YOU KNOW playing FFXII AGAIN and maybe FINISHING this time! (I've played it four? five? times and stopped right about the time The Bahamut is available because I defer and do hunts and then I get bored and then I never come back to it. NARGLE).

(ONE DAY I WILL KILL YIAZMAT BUT IT IS NOT TODAY).

(or tomorrow either)

(or the day after that)

(you get the picture)

Relatedly, I have just had it pointed out to me (by TVT, no less) that this is a spoiler )

OH MAN WHAT AN IDIOT. I AM THE WORST FAN OF EVERYTHING EVER.

~*~

Also I hauled out an FFXII that I started writing five years ago, and abandoned because I couldn't make it work without dodgy circumstances. I re-read it and it's still good, and...now I kind of want to carry on writing it again, except there are still the dodgy circumstances AND really I'd need to play the game again to get a handle on the characters.

(Another fic I started around the same time EXEMPLIFIES the thing noted above. I.E. that I did not notice it because I am an idiot. Though it guess it proves that that whole part works as intended, although it wrecks a video I made to pieces** :( ).

~*~

*But, I think in part that knowing two pairs of twins as a kid probably helped me with that???

**I've vidded approx three times in my life, and they were all for FFXII. I started two FFX ones, but couldn't find enough useable footage that didn't have subs on :( I haven't vidded since mainly because of hardware/software constraints.

ETA: Actually I made four FFXII vids, and they're all lame, apart from the one about Balthier which, unsurprisingly, is the one I spent the most time on. Two of the others lack scenes for characters (or required characters together), and the final one (which I spent the second most time on) probably just needs re-editing. But see previous remarks about soft/hardware. [/eta]
