I was commenting on
lassarina's post about Ivalice, and I realised I was missing some crucial icons, so I went and uploaded them. One of them is gracing this post (I think I've been without a paid account for so long that I forgot I can suddenly upload relevant/useless/pretty icons whenever I want).
I also had ~feelings~ because that's the way I feel about Ivalice (maybe more so than Mass Effect, even though I would flat out tell you ME is my favourite game, no questions asked). And, because of that post, I've been thinking (yet again) about playing Tactics (I suck at Tactics games), or Vagrant Story (I'm kind of afraid of it, even though I could finish it in a day? HOW STUPID IS THAT?) or YOU KNOW playing FFXII AGAIN and maybe FINISHING this time! (I've played it four? five? times and stopped right about the time The Bahamut is available because I defer and do hunts and then I get bored and then I never come back to it. NARGLE).
(ONE DAY I WILL KILL YIAZMAT BUT IT IS NOT TODAY).
(or tomorrow either)
(or the day after that)
(you get the picture)
Relatedly, I have just had it pointed out to me (by TVT, no less) that you never see Basch in Reks' part of the game. THAT'S ALWAYS GABRANTH.
I am such a fucking idiot!
I mean, I knew it was Gabranth killed Ramnias and stabbed Reks, but I always assumed that somewhere along the line, he managed to get to Ramnias before Basch did. OH NO.
I am also checking through
livvyplaysfinalfantasy's posts on FFXII (because ~feelings~ ) and if you look at her screencaps, particularly the middle one here, it's fucking obvious.
I claim to be able to tell twins apart (I actually do not know why other people have so much trouble*) and I think it's great that in this game, Basch and Gabranth DO look different, but obviously enough the same that people would confuse them LIKE I HAVE BEEN DOING FOR THE PAST SEVEN YEARS. (This is actually the only part of the game where that happened to me, actually. I mean, the rest of the time you know, and obviously it's obvious. OBVIOUSLY).
OH MAN WHAT AN IDIOT. I AM THE WORST FAN OF EVERYTHING EVER.
~*~
Also I hauled out an FFXII that I started writing five years ago, and abandoned because I couldn't make it work without dodgy circumstances. I re-read it and it's still good, and...now I kind of want to carry on writing it again, except there are still the dodgy circumstances AND really I'd need to play the game again to get a handle on the characters.
(Another fic I started around the same time EXEMPLIFIES the thing noted above. I.E. that I did not notice it because I am an idiot. Though it guess it proves that that whole part works as intended, although it wrecks a video I made to pieces** :( ).

*But, I think in part that knowing two pairs of twins as a kid probably helped me with that???
**I've vidded approx three times in my life, and they were all for FFXII. I started two FFX ones, but couldn't find enough useable footage that didn't have subs on :( I haven't vidded since mainly because of hardware/software constraints.
ETA: Actually I made four FFXII vids, and they're all lame, apart from the one about Balthier which, unsurprisingly, is the one I spent the most time on. Two of the others lack scenes for characters (or required characters together), and the final one (which I spent the second most time on) probably just needs re-editing. But see previous remarks about soft/hardware. [/eta]

Tactics is AWESOME and I totally recommend it if you're thinking about playing it! I'd definitely give Before I Play a once over though, it explains the game's combat systems in a way that's much less confusing than the game itself does.

I am thinking about it! I did start once, but then stopped (I think I got to the first battle after the tutorial). And I don't know why (except that I suck at tactics games). I need to restart. Think I might do that for a couple of hours during the day and XII at night. That might slot together nicely :)

Yiazmat is the devil, I swear. Like I said above, who honestly thought that was a good idea? Even by Squeenix's standards, it's bugnuts crazy. I don't blame you for not trying, to be honest. I was never going to, but I dunno, I must've changed my mind somewhere along the line.

Someone must have lost it over at Square to be honest. However, I'm thinking about trying it too XD. You have much more cojones than I lol.

I swear they employ someone to say, "You know what this game needs? MORE BOSSES", and everyone claps and applauds like it's the most brilliant idea on the planet. I think Yiazmat is the culmination of that, to be honest (especially considering monster HP values in XIII, which are just silly).

I think it was a combination of no sleep/taking things too literally/and...something else. But it makes for an intriguing idea, though. But no, I watched the scenes again, and you can tell the difference between their voices anyway (Gabranth's VA doesn't even bother trying to hide the fact that he's not Basch, but I honestly don't think Reks would've noticed anyway due to extenuating circumstances. But that's just my take). And yeah, Vossler would've noticed something wasn't right, because he knows Basch pretty well by that point. So yeah. I AM AN ASS.
