Today I made my first set of 8mm jump rings from a non-tarnish metal I've had sitting around for about a year (I'm going to get some more because it's too much fun; although I need a decent file to smooth the ends down).

I don't know how many I made because I didn't count, but I needed them to be that big because of what I was going to do with them. Which was make bracelets! I did two in approximately an hour, which was much less time than I thought, and I'll make the other two of them tomorrow. And there will be pictures on my tumblr soon!

(Talking of which, I apologise for not posting pics on here so much but I've only so much room on my flickr, and sometimes, with all the other stuff I have to do work-wise, another set of uploading is just asking for trouble, in that that's when my energy wanes (not because I'm not interested, or I don't think you guys are, but I have enough problems just existing some days) ).

I also made three key fobs/rings out of terribly short friendship bracelets, and now I know I can do that, I'm going to get some more D-rings so that I can make some more. I also didn't know how to add more thread in at the time (but now I do! but even so, making short ones is cute).

One of them has a glow in the dark bead on it, so theoretically you should be able to find your keys in the dark. THEORETICALLY.

Also my thread order from a company in Cheshire came today, so that was cool (I got extra black, a pale lilac-y colour, and a gorgeous red. I've also ordered a heap of black and white thread from eBay, so hopefully they will come tomorrow - they're only coming from Manchester, so it's not like it's the other end of the country).

And, in case you hadn't noticed, my mood is much, much better now! In fact, I feel pretty good, although hella tired. But pretty darn good! I am pleased about this!

Random other things:

~ It's looking as though my nephew may get called Isaac. Me and mum hoped they'd go for Noah, but my bro says Isaac is the only name that he and my sister in law mostly agree on.

~ My bro helped me move some stuff out of the roof space today (as we are getting insulation at ridiculous o'clock on Monday morning). There was a lot of my school work, which is pretty much going straight in the recycling. There's also half a dozen demijohns, and a whole bunch of stuff that needs sorting. I don't wanna. I want to sleep lots (had a bad night last night because I was worried), and I want to crochet instead.

On the other hand, there was an unexpected yarn stash up there, including some really nice purple yarn that has subtle pink and blue flecks in it.

~ I've got another bracelet made from wire made, so that's cool. They can go in my shop soon!

~ I also have an armful of tumbled stones which are gorgeous, and I am going to turn some of the lighter (weight-wise) ones into jewellery. I think the majority are quartzes but, after internet searches and a handful of mineral books, I still don't know for sure.

(They are translucent to degrees. I turned a torch on some of them in a darkened room, and they showed some translucency. Also they look like bigger versions of the quartzes I used to pick up when playing out as a child. So that's two points in their favour. But I'm not going to sell them as quartz unless I am 100% sure).

~ I got my new glasses yesterday. Had a sight test two weeks ago, and my horrific sight has got worse, so I needed new lenses. Thankfully, it explained ALL the vision problems I've been having recently (gunky feelings on eyeballs, blobs in vision, trouble changing focus between near and distance).

It feels so much better now! Although these frames are radically different to my old ones (they were thin wire, these are chunky metal with plastic sides that are about an inch in height), so I still need to get used to them. But I will. It took me a while with the old ones, I remember (even if it was nearly ten years ago!)

~ Going to go to bed and sleep now, because I feel like crud warmed over. Maybe I will think about what toys I am going to make for my nephew :3

Large picspam below; may not be suitable for dial-up; adequately illustrates what I have been rambling on about for ages.

here's some jewellery and other stuff with beads on )

~*~

...and now for something completely crocheted )

If you want to ask about any of these things, or whatnot, shoot us a line and we can natter about it c:

And, as usual, comments, crits, or even "ooh shiny!" are welcome :D

Oh also, I might add, I know the majority of the jewellery is unfinished. Trust me, if you said, "I wanna buy that!", I'd make sure you got it in finished condition.

Things I am in the middle of doing:

~ crocheting a wire and seed bead bracelet. Had to take a break because it makes my fingers hurt because wire has zero give (therefore, have to crochet more loosely than usual).

~ still French knitting - designing and making a hat from some of it at the moment. I have also made a bigger knitter from a loo roll inside and some lolly sticks, and last night I started knitting some t-shirt yarn that I made over a year ago and haven't found a use for (making a rug, but just for the house. I wouldn't actually inflict my old t-shirts on anyone).

Other things:

~ I finally have a working electric sewing machine! Or I will have after I go and pick it up (it's only just at the bottom of the road, so not far to go) Picked it up 20 minutes ago, going to check it out tomorrow. So I can make bags and things with so much more speed (I also think it will actually give me the impetus to finish off making a space in the kitchen to work from.

~ I have been self-employed for just over six months! \o/

~ And finally, I've been putting this off, but I'm getting a nephew in October!

(I totally want to make him something, but I don't know what yet).

I've been making bracelets and stitch markers for the past few days - none of them are ready for sale, because they all need finishing off. But I am having enormous fun (it's like having an excuse to play!)

Anyway, part of the point of saying this was to say that I went to the bead shop to get supplies earlier, and ended up spending WAY more money than I intended to. Um. Whoops? But in my defence, I got some really AWESOME stuff! (Mum looked over it and went, "Yup, you're my daughter". It's a seriously good job I held off the hammer and anvil (stone. Although there were some in the shape of actual anvils). Mind you, that would've cost £30 for those two things, and I wouldn't have been able to afford the others (which really I needed more. Except maybe the bismuth-esque beads and the other funky things. I bet I made the owner's day! ;) )

I also bought a french knitting dolly from there (I was swayed, I suppose, by the display in which it showed knitted wire with beads in it. It did look awesome). I never used to be able to get the hang of it when I was kid. It just never worked for me. Well now I've managed to get it to work, and yaaaaaaaaaaay.

And it's a way to do something with wire and beads without fucking up a crochet hook (unless I buy one super special, like, but I don't think I shall).

~*~

OH AND. I dyed my hair green finally! I like it! It came out awesome (and when I stop being lazy, there will actually be pictures, I promise).

The lady in the bead shop said she really liked it (and she must've been fifteen or twenty years older than me), and asked me if I did it myself (and was surprised when I said I did). She said when I was stood near the window, it was really luminous, and looked really nice. And that kind of made my day c:

(It certainly made up for the stupid teenagers who drove past and yelled, "Hurr, you've got green hair!" Yes, I have, AND?)

I wish I could afford to dye my hair stupid colours more often.

~*~

Going to go and play with my new toy now, though c:
