About...a week ago? I started catching up on the Dicebreaker mini painting streams. I didn't watch them initially because they were on while I was at work on Fridays, or because, when they moved to Thursdays, I had no interest in mini painting. Or, at least, I thought I didn't.
It's reminded me of two things:
1. Seeing a bunch of minis and paint in my friend's bedroom when I was about...ten or so? I didn't know what they were, and he wasn't around to ask at the time.
2. finding out a few years ago that there was a mini painting subreddit, and then being hugely disappointed that it was for miniature painting, not extremely small paintings on canvas or paper.
ANYWAY. It turns out that I actually find the process for mini painting really interesting! I also like that a couple of times they've said that you don't actually need to be playing a game to get minis to paint, you can just buy whichever ones look cool to you, and go for it, which is nice.
I half toyed with the idea, but I think it's just my weasel brain going, "OH THAT'S COOL LET'S DO THAT NOW!" Also I just don't have storage space for them. This is why I don't make amigurumi or plushes any more (among other things). I just don't have the space.
That said, it did start me picking up my watercolours again, so yay! (Along with a combo of a couple of other people whose videos I'd been watching around the same time).
Then yesterday, I watched the painting stream live. I didn't paint while the stream was on, I worked on a cross stitch, and it felt exactly like when I go to the meets with my comics peeps. Which is something I've been missing because of a) meeting on a Sunday, which is when I am doing paid work, and then b) having to stay at home because the coronavirus.
I knew I missed meeting up with my peeps, but I didn't know exactly how much until yesterday. (And the streams last roughly as long as one of our meets (2hrs), which also helps that feeling. The upside being I don't have to leg it for a bus afterwards and then worry that I've left something in the pub when I get home).
So that's mostly what I've been up to. Apart from baking:
- I made banana bread cupcakes (so fluffy and delicious!)
- chunky choc chip cookies (and they did come out chunkier this time, wheee!)
- apple and cinnamon cucpcakes, which I haven't tried yet, but they should be okay, as I followed the same recipe I used for cherry muffins, but I subbed the apple for the cherries, and whacked a bunch of cinnamon in. They smell amazing, anyway.
Now I'm going to go and check out my mum's paintbrushes to stop me buying more I don't need (but you know weasel brains, right?)
