In recent days, I have read a book and watched a film!

The book was Never Let Me Go, by Kazuo Ishiguro. It, er, was certainly a book.

It wasn't bad, but I wasn't bowled over by it, either? It left me feeling much the same way that The Ocean at the End of the Lane did when I was done and that was pretty much ok that was a story and here I am at the end. It sort of felt like it didn't go anywhere, except I suppose it did. It creeped me out a little, but that's intentional.

It was OK and I read it, and I'll probably never read it again. Might watch the film, eventually.

The film was X-Men: First Class. That was also OK? It wasn't bad, it didn't make my skin itch (I mean, I did bitch about some stuff, but that's par for the course pretty much every time I watch an X-men film). I missed the pertinent part of Hugh Jackman's cameo (but there's always Youtube :) ), and I didn't want to watch a film with Kevin Bacon in (I just don't like him), but in the end he was also OK, so??? And I got random German practice out of it, so that was good! (And French! Which I understood better, for obvious reasons).

Also I might have a teensy crush on Michael Fassbender? And I got Days of Future Past out of the library even though I said at one point that I wasn't interested in watching it?

(Let's be honest here: X-Men is not quite my ur-fandom (that's probably the X-Files), but it's one that I am very invested in, have been for a long time, and still love with all my heart. So I'm probably going to keep watching the films, eventually, even if I scream and shout about them and kick my heels a lot. I nearly almost end up liking them anyway, even if I bitch about them first time round).

ETA: TVT's wallbangers entry for the comics series (beware unmarked spoilers) make me so, so glad I stopped reading the comics (I miss them like burning, but Civil War (and some concurrent to that storylines) fucked me off no end, and I'm not going back to them any time soon). [/eta]
