I haven't posted for a while because I haven't been feeling brilliant - still not so now. At least I'm not spontaneously crying all over the place right now.

It was my birthday on Monday, so I am now a year older, I still don't feel it and, if my webcam pics on my HD are anything to go by, I don't look it (I'm not boasting, I'm just surprised). As you probably already know, I got Inquisition for my present from my mum (she's actually really good at buying me video games as presents, even if she doesn't understand why I like them so much). My brother and sister in law gave me money.

I was originally going to buy art books with it - I couldn't wangle the Mass Effect one as well as the Art of DA:I AND The World of Thedas. So I knocked off the art of DA:I, then dithered. A lot. I ended up buying the Dummies' music theory book, because although I really want the ME art book (more so than any book about Dragon Age), I think it can wait for a while because it's been out two years, and I'd forgotten I wanted it. So.

I've still got some of the money left, and am still determined to buy books, but I don't know what right now. So I'm thinking about it.

(By the way - I understand intervals now, but seventh chords are the devil. I mean, do they really need EIGHT DIFFERENT WAYS to be formed???)

Did you know if you mistype Halo, you get Halp?

I've been reading about the games all afternoon, and am sad they're FPSes because the story sounds pretty interesting (also gross, in certain parts, but mostly interesting). I don't play FPSes because first person POV makes me nauseous and/or gives me a headache, and I'm shit at shooters (you really DON'T need to see me play Mass Effect - take my word for it).

(First person POV is one reason why I'll never play a Bioshock game (second is I don't like the art style), it's also one of the reasons I didn't like Oblivion, even though you can switch out of it*. It's also why I couldn't play Mirror's Edge, even though I really wanted to, and I tried my best).

*Not that this is indicated in game or in the manual. I think I bopped the right stick by accident and voila, there was third person POV.

I also read a little bit about the games they are a spiritual successor to, which is a series called Marathon. That sounded even MORE interesting, but sadly they're FPSes, too (which is a shame, because they've been released as freeware for all major OSes (which does include Linux! \o/ ) and that includes all mods and maps and so on.

It got me thinking about my sci-fi story that I was doing last year though. I thought about tinkering with that, because there's things I could change/pick up on/whatever in that to reflect other sci-fi tropes I find interesting. (I don't know exactly what I want to do with it, but thinking about things I started tinkering with, I think it could easily be part of a larger story, which would be awesome. I would like a larger world universe to play with *g* ).

Also, did you know, for all I complain that I could never do NaNo, the bulk of that story PLUS the research I did was written in a month? OK, it wasn't 50,000 words, but even so! I filled an A4 sized notebook! Backwards! As depressing as that story is, I'm still really into it, which is good! (and I seem to be more into it than my webcomic idea, so it's probably a better idea to noodle with that, right?)

(I totally know how the protag looks, and I keep wanting to draw her. Back last year, I didn't think I'd be able to get her looking how I wanted, but I'm going to get back on that horse and try my damndest because I think she's pretty cool-looking!)

So yeah, basically I read about Halo, and it got me enthused about my own stuff, so yaaaaaay! \o/
