So I'm looking at Linux because a) I'm bored on a Bank Holiday afternoon and b) me and [personal profile] beccatoria had a conversation about it a bit since, and it's something I've considered using since my PC is slower than slow, and everything eats my RAM like you wouldn't believe (Photoshop being the worst offender after Firefox. I've often considered going back several versions of PS anyway, as I don't use it for anything "fancy" and don't do much digital art these days).

Imagine my surprise when, while reading about it, I discover that the Android OS is based on Linux! Good news! I like Android! (I seriously miss having an Android phone - so much so that I'm considering buying one before my contract's up - sadly I can't afford a really snappy one :( )

Looking at the options available (and following Becka's advice (for which I may ask for more, ha ha), I should be able to install Ubuntu! (I've got a dual core processor running at 1.73Ghz, and a gig of RAM, so it's all looking good).

I may well consider this a possible go, tomorrow. (I could also do a complete install anyway, since I've got Acronis for backing up Windows/my current install/whatever). I'm making no promises, since I might duck out of it, because I'm good at that!

Protip: don't do what I did when trying to install Linux, and burn the CD/DVD wrong and then have to download the whole thing all over again because you didn't realise that, you know, the temp file might actually disappear when you rebooted the computer.

Honestly.

I need a "what an idiot" tag.

Good job I wasn't planning on going to sleep any time soon!
