SO!
For a long time I have been thinking about making a little booklet with some of my work in it, to send to people, or to show to people. This has been going on for literally years, because I'm always paralysed with indecision about What is A Good Art by Me. I thought at one point of making a .pdf for download, but that's gone out of the window for a reason I'll explain in a moment. Then, because I've been reading about making comics/webcomics for the last year or so, I've seen some posts here and there about making zines.
WHICH! I did not know why I didn't think of this before!
It's perfect, because it doesn't have to be masses of pages long (and, since I'll be printing it myself, I don't want it to be). And it doesn't have to be perfect, right?
And also, my view of what A Good Art by Me is has either changed, or I've been doing better stuff, because I can mentally compile a list of things I could put it in and not be unhappy with. Moving art blogs has actually done this for me, since I wanted to post some things there from this year that I was proud of.
What I'm thinking of doing is putting ten images in, with notes on what they are, and how they were created. I might include a little autobiography (and now I think about it, I might make up some daft testimonials?)
EDIT: Since it came up in comments, it's likely to be between ten and twenty pages long, and it's going to be A6 (10.5 by 15 cm) in size. [/edit]
I would like your input, please! Firstly, could you answer the poll below?
Secondly, could you name a price you would not mind paying for it? I'm thinking about £2 (2.7 Euros/$3.50 USD/$4.50 CAD) per zine, but that feels horrendously expensive to me BUT the price of the shipping will probably be included in that price so no matter where you live, you'd pay one flat rate. (I'll discuss payment methods once I've got this thing off the ground).
As for why I'm doing this with the dead tree method, and not a .pdf: because if I made a .pdf, I'd have to let it be a free download, and I want to charge money for this, because money is what makes the world go round, the world go round, the world go round. Ahem. Sorry. Yes, you see, the government in the UK introduced a law back in January that meant whenever you sell a digital good online (.pdf/mp3/etc), you have to pay tax based on the country it's downloaded in. I can't afford to do that, nor can I afford to use one of the various methods there are for dealing with it, and so here we are with dead trees.
Also, you know, I like sending people stuff! (I also like sending people my art, believe it or not). And this is a way to do that.
(And you never know, in the future, you might be able to sell it for tens of pounds/euros/dollars! Oooooh!)
