I like doing Youtube Is Bad For You, although there aren't many examples of it on this blog (all the ones I've tagged here are completely random, there was a point where I'd pick a band or an era and just link to good videos).
I've been thinking about U2 a lot recently and, on checking my old LJ, I see that I did do a couple of posts for their videos (though not appropriately tagged, heh). In case you don't know, U2 are FAR AND AWAY my favourite band (I'd say Queen, the Manics, and A-ha qualify as favourite bands, too, because they do, but if I had to rank 'em, U2'd be at the top). I thought I'd mention this because apparently nobody on the internet admits to liking U2? (seriously, what?)
I haven't properly listened to any U2 in about three years. I don't know why. I can't say. Sometimes I don't know the inside of my mind as well as I think I do. The other day I was listening to music while I was out, and Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me, Kill Me came on, and I listened to it, and I remembered why the hell it is my favourite songs*. I have a lot of U2 songs that I'd class as my favourites**, but said tune is somewhere in the top three, more than likely (I think my top three would all be tied ones, lol. I JUST CAN'T CHOOSE).
So I came home, and I found CDs, and MP3s and basically not a moment has gone by where I haven't listened to U2 at some point over the past three days. I also added some U2 tumblrs to my follow list because honestly, I don't know why I haven't done that before now.
Anyway, what follows is a U2 Youtube is Bad For You. Feel free to scroll on by if it's not your thing.
*I was quite pleased to read on the intertubes that U2 think it's the best song they've ever done. Made me feel all warm and fuzzy.
**This, I guess would be where I reiterate my feelings about Ultra Violet. But I won't because I imagine people who've been following me since forever ago are sick of hearing it.
~*~*~*~
Lemon - worth watching for Men At Rest, and Bono's whole MacPhisto/Fly act, and Man With Suitcases Walking Down Incline (featuring the saddest The Edge :( )
Stay (Far Away, So Close!) - I REALLY wanted to relink this, but I can't seem to find the right video (SO FRUSTRATING). I think it's a really great video, (and could teach the following video a thing or two about merging song video and film clips ;) ) but as it is...it will have to wait for another time!
Elevation - worth sticking through the film clips (as it was used on a Tomb Raider soundtrack) for the giraffe and Bono's WTF expression.
Even Better Than The Real Thing - great video, shame it makes me nauseous (and the song, now, by association!)
With or Without You - Features Bono doing his best impression of a creeper (although not quite as scary as Sting in the Every Breath You Take video). Guess it fits, given what the song's about.
Two of the videos I wanted to link to (both live from the Joshua Tree tours) have been taken down and I am too lazy to refind them :p
New to this list:
Top Ten Things U2 Has Learnt Over The Years (warning: contains David Letterman, if you are averse to the guy)
Numb - Mr The Edge's List Song, as TVT would have it. I...really like this, and I couldn't tell you why. The video is notable for, I think, the amount of times The Edge nearly corpses. Damn, I wish there were outtakes, because.
(Also he really makes me think of my best mate's step-dad in this video and I have no idea why. They don't even really look that alike and never have).
I dare say I'll update this again one day, but for now, that's yer lot! Enjoy!
