So this morning I watched Event Horizon while I was waiting for the shopping to arrive. I have been wanting to rewatch it for years, since I am one of about three people that actually likes the film (apparently it's now a cult film?? Last time I checked, people were still calling it a steaming pile of shit, and my friends - I think - wish I hadn't made them watch it that one time).
ANYWAY.
I've been working myself up to it, because I was convinced it was super gory, and I've come to the conclusion that the older I get, the more of a wuss I become. So. I had the time to myself, and I thought, why the hell not? It's broad daylight. It won't freak me out as much as Resident Evil (same director, coincidentally) (I think zombies are my bugbear, you see). So I did.
And, while it's certainly creepy, it's heavier on the psychological aspects of the horror, which is a thing I love, and probably the reason I like the film so much. Also space travel! An ambiguous ending! (Or is it? ;) ) Dodgy physics! And it didn't creep me out as much as the RE film does, so win win all round!
And I'm really glad that I watched it. I enjoyed just chilling, watching a film by myself on a Saturday morning. I may have to start doing this more regularly (next Saturday might be Jurassic Park, if I don't watch it before then).
(The only problem I had was that you could tell it was an old DVD (I bought it in 2002, and it has no extras and goes straight into the film!!), because it didn't scale up to the widescreen format of our TV properly. For some reason, the edge of Laurence Fishburne's head got really pixelly a lot. Which kind of amused me).
