ruuger, I've just found out that Robin Sachs died at the beginning of the month. It would've been his birthday today, according to Wikipedia.
That's sad news. I thought he was a great actor.

I started baking my own bread. It is not like cakes. That is, it is not easy. You do not just put the mixture in the tin and poof! out comes bread.
OH NO.
Out of the ten(?) loaves I've made since the beginning of the year, I've had maybe four good ones? The one before last was AMAZING. THE BEST. The one I cooked on Monday? A fucking disaster. The one I've got in the oven right now? No freaking idea, yet.
I don't know, man.
So far I've figured out there's good days and bad days for doing bread, and cold days when we don't have the fire on in the living room are bad days. Principally because the yeast won't foam, as the kitchen's a hell of a lot colder, and then the dough doesn't rise. Sunny days are good. Today was warmer, so I'm trying my luck. Also I ran out of strong plain flour on the last loaf and haven't been to town since, so we're on ordinary plain flour to see how that works.
Later on: it is good! Well, that opinion might change in the morning, but right now it's edible and it rose, so yay! \o/
