As you may or may not know, my cat is a rescue cat (of sorts; her owner died and we took her in). Well, there were two other cats living with her. One, Mitten, got attacked by her previous owner's boyfriend's dog, and then sent to the RSPCA (I actually wish we'd offered to take her in as well, and really regret not doing so).
The other, Whiskey, got taken in by a lady who lived across the way from the previous owner. After about a year, that lady also died. Now, I know one of her friends looked after the dog (and still has it), but I didn't know what had happened to Whiskey. I knew he was still about, because he's a big solid bruiser, and he thinks he owns the entire area, and occasionally he'd come and harass my cat. After a while, I didn't see him so much, and I thought maybe he'd been taken to the RSPCA too, or maybe he'd died (but I really hoped he hadn't).
I was out delivering Xmas cards for my mum the other day. I happened to walk past one house, and there's this big black cat sitting on the kitchen window sill. As soon he sees me, he jumps off, comes over, and meows at me. I gave him a fuss, he headbutted me, and then we parted ways because I was cold, and he was soggy.
I thought on my way home, "That cat might be Whiskey. It's definitely got his wonky ear (from fighting) and his dodgy eye (probably from the same)". Also that cat's all muscle - he headbutts you, you know about it.
TL;DR version: I just checked my photos on my hard drive, and that cat is most certainly Whiskey. I am so happy, you don't know. That has just warmed the cockles of my heart.

Here's a crochet meme that I'm doing all in one because I'm impatient, and I like questions.
Day 1: What was your first finished project?
A pair of wrist warmers that I made for myself. It was a really complex pattern, and I should've gone for something easier but it gave me the confidence to not underestimate myself.
Day 2: What is currently on your hooks?
More squares. I've been using up bits of left over yarn to make squares to make into bags or blankets or something else (unsure yet). They're just plain double crocheted squares, but some of them also have sparkly thread in as well.
Day 3: Do you have any other WIPs (works in progress)?
A tapestry crochet experiment (which needs ripping back and restarting), a hat, and soon there will be Pyramid Head XD
Day 4: How did you learn how to crochet?
I taught myself! I had a lot of time off school ill when I was a teenager, and couldn't do anything but lie in bed. I had a craft book and some yarn, mum supplied me with a hook, and away I went.
Day 5: How long did it take from the time your learned how to crochet, to finish your first project?
Ahahahahaha. THIRTEEN YEARS. I WISH I was kidding.
Day 6: What is your favorite piece that you’ve crocheted?
Hmmm, I am quite fond of that blue and white Aran cowl I made, right now.
Day 7: Your least favorite?
I don't think I've got one. Although the ugly hat I gave away in the Secret Santa was, um, pretty ugly.
Day 8: What’s your most challenging project?
Hmm, making dolls was pretty challenging. Also making my bro's hat for Xmas. That was an experience.
Day 9: What fiber or yarn do you love working with?
I really love chunky yarn because it works up quickly, but I also love soft yarn because it's nice to feel, to hold, and yeah.
Day 10: Do you have a favorite pattern or designer?
Mmm. Not really. Well, not at the moment. I suppose I haven't really made enough things from patterns to know.
Day 11: Do you have a “Crochet Hero” or someone that is just way too awesome for their own good? Do share!
Again, not really.
Day 12: Where do you keep your stash? Post pictures!
I'll upload a picture tomorrow maybe, but my stash is (mostly) in my bedroom, because that's where I work the most. The part that isn't is in a cupboard next to the living room (although technically that's mum's and what used to belong to my gran, but I can use it).
Day 13: Do you have yarn that you love but can’t find a project for?
Sort of. I have some Robin multi-coloured yarn that is so soft and lovely (and only one ball, *sob*). More that I don't want to use it on the wrong project, if that makes sense?
Day 14: What’s the worst yarn/fiber that you’ve worked with and why?
I don't like yarns made from Courtelle. It feels hard on my hands and I just don't like it.
Day 15: What was your least favorite pattern and why?
I had a pattern for an amigurumi Siamese cat and I ended up leaving it for months and then ripping it back completely because I just had no desire to make it.
Day 16: Have you ever had a crocheting related injury?
Sort of. I've got a callus on my index finger because of the way I hold the hook (neither of the ways you're supposed to), and I've had sore wrists from making my tension too tight.
Day 17: Have you ever had a project that you loved become ruined? What’s the story behind it?
NOT YET.
Day 18: What are your preferred hooks made from (metal, steel, bamboo, wood, plastic)?
Depends. I use both metal and plastic hooks. I'd like to try wooden or bamboo hooks, but I haven't had the spare cash to acquire any yet.
Day 19: Do you watch movies and/or listen to podcasts while crocheting? What are your favorite things to crochet to?
YES. Most of the time I listen to music, although right now I am watching Trigun. I'm working on downloading a bunch of podcasts to listen to because I think that'd be good (right now I am looking at Kevin and Ursula Eat Cheap because I've been meaning to listen to it since they started doing it).
Day 20: Do you crochet in public? Was anyone offended/incredibly happy/curious that you were doing so?
I do. When I'm on the bus, most of the time no-one will sit next to me. Although one time I had a lady ask me what I was making. One time I was crocheting while waiting for mum to have her diabetic check-up, and got an American lady all excited about starting to learn all over again, so that was cool. If anyone's been offended, they haven't said.
Day 21: Do you crochet gifts for friends and family for the holidays or birthdays?
YES. I made several things this year for Xmas, and I made my not-quite sister in law a scarf for Xmas the year before last? Last year? Can't remember.
Day 22: Have you ever stricken someone off your to-crochet-for list because they didn’t appreciate/take care of your last crochet gift to them?
Not yet I haven't. I hope I don't have to, but I guess it happens.
Day 23: If you had the supplies (and patience) for it, what project would you start today?
There's a vintage style cardigan I have a pattern for that I want to make just 'cause it looks so comfy. So maybe that. Or that awesome Russian style coat I have a pattern for, too.
Day 24: Have you ever made your own pattern or dyed your own yarn? How did it turn out?
Yes, I invented the doll patterns I made, and also the hat patterns I am currently using. I haven't dyed my own yarn yet, but I've got to get up the courage to invade the kitchen with dyes and fixatives yet. (I have a 400g ball of Aran that will be PERFECT for this because a) there's so much of it and b) it's ARAN COLOURED).
Day 25: Do you have a crocheting book or a place where you keep patterns, ideas, size measurements? Post a picture of it!
Picture tomorrow. I have a lever-arch file with all my patterns that I've downloaded/photocopied, but I also have an A5 notebook that I write down in (mostly) what I've made recently, and store all the bands off yarn so I know what I used, and so I can put care instructions in with the items.
Day 26: Have you ever been a part, or wanted to be a part of a crochet-a-long? What was it? If not, why?
I guess that thing with the cobwebs counted? Sort of? But no, never really wanted to because my brain wouldn't be able to cope with trying to keep up with everyone else.
Day 27: How do you acquire most of yarn? Online retailers, local yarn shops, swaps, or large chain craft stores? What’s your favorite?
My mum and gran, mostly. After that, a local yarn stall, and one of the el-cheapo shops in town. I quite like the yarn stall, and I love to support local businesses, but I wish they were bigger. I haven't bought any yarn off the internet yet, but I intend to.
Day 28: Do you do any other crafts besides crochet? What are they, and did learning to crochet come before or after learning these other crafts?
I can sew, and I learnt to do it at junior school, and also my mum taught me some - I was always making things for my dolls when I was younger. I also took textiles for my GCSE (because, you know, I was a girl. Should've done woodwork to buck the trend). So yeah, that did come before crocheting. But it's a useful skill set to have in addition.
Day 29: Do you have any tips, or things that you’ve learned from crochet?
Hmm, change colour on your last loop of the previous colour! And don't tie the ends together (or whatever) until you've done the row above (at least).
Day 30: What’s your name on Ravelry? If you don’t have a Ravelry account, why?
Muladhara, although I'm mostly on there to find patterns.
The other, Whiskey, got taken in by a lady who lived across the way from the previous owner. After about a year, that lady also died. Now, I know one of her friends looked after the dog (and still has it), but I didn't know what had happened to Whiskey.
