"one day, lad, all this will be yours"
1. I completely dropped the ball on the Post Once A Day meme, and missed my first day (I assumed the first of the month would be okay for posting except hahahahah no! Because tiredness and stress!) But I absolutely will get to answering the question in a moment!
(I still have spaces, btw, in case anyone has any burning questions they want to ask me? Or a topic to talk about! It doesn't have to be a question!)
2. Because of aforementioned tiredness and stress, I am still at the same place I was almost two weeks ago in Diablo III. I almost thought about quitting, but I'm so close to the end that I might as well see if I can dink the final boss on the head.
3. I saw a copy of Monty Python and the Holy Grail at New Work (or possibly Old Work, now I am confused). I did not pick it up, and am regretting my decision. I like that film, because Arthurian Myth, but also there's bits that I straight up have never liked, which is what gives me pause about it (although I guess at least with DVD I can skip that easily??)
3b. I did finally manage to get a copy of The Bends on CD, though, after having only owned it on tape for twenty plus years.
4. There is still snow outside, and it snowed most of the day while I was at work. It didn't stick in town, but when I got off the bus at home, I was amazed how much had stuck (It was little over an inch, which isn't that impressive, I know, but I wasn't expecting it).
5. Time for that Post Once A Day answer!
forests_of_fire asked me: What is the most frustrating aspect of games? The most rewarding? The aspect that brings you the most joy?
The most frustrating aspect for me, personally, is grinding in RPGs. I find it really boring, and it really annoys me when you go to look up how to defeat A Boss/An Enemy/Whatever, and the answer is "Grind in this one specific spot for six hours, so that you are level 99, because why else are you playing this game, fool".
I appreciate that some people like this, and for them it's all about gaining the levels, and hitting the cap, but also can we realise that not everyone is like that? One of the things I found blessedly refreshing about Dark Souls* is that people are more than happy to tell you how to cheese t f out of a boss or enemy, rather than the response being, "learn its moves, scrub!"**
(Also yeah, that's not related to grinding, but I'm sure there are hardcore grinders in the Dark Souls fandom, I just haven't encountered them).
I think the most rewarding aspect can be beating something you've been stuck on, be it a boss, or a puzzle, or something else entirely. Which is not to say that I don't find being stuck frustrating (see my beef with Evrae in FFX, f'rex), but that serotonin rush when you finally manage to whittle the health bar right down, or you finally realise what the solution is, oh wow, is that good.
What brings me the most joy is two things: item crafting, and cosmetic rewards/costumes.
I can't really explain the item crafting thing, although again, I think it's the reward of a weapon or armour from these seemingly random things you've collected***, and that it might be super powerful! if you manage to find the right things! (Although again, grinding for drops is ZZZZZZ Town, nope, no thanks).
Cosmetic rewards/costumes is a lot easier to explain. I like paper dolls, and I like dressing them up in different things (one of my on-going things in my brain is to one day make a set of dolls with lots of different clothes. One of the reasons I got into pixelling Way Back When is because I was well into KiSS Dolls). I like seeing stuff change as the gameplay progresses - one of the things I like in FFX/XII is that the weapons and shields visibly change. One of the reasons I love FFX-2 so much (and I do), is that it's basically Final Fantasy Dress Up. I love all the items you can accrue in The World Ends With You (I mean, it's a p perfect game, imo, but that you can go shopping for clothes and that's your armour and weapons is like *chef's kiss*)
Because of this reason, I own two of the Style Savvy/Style Boutique games! I would own more (there's four in total), but they're heavily skewed towards female players, and that makes me a little uncomfortable, but that's imo. But they are cute, and you get to make outfits for your customers and stuff! (And if you impress them enough, they return and spend more money in your shop!)
I hope this was a satisfactory answer!
*IKR?
**I mean, there is still A LOT of that, though, because Dark Souls fandom.
