end of year post
I'm typing this on my tablet, so please forgive any typos. I don't like using it for stuff like this, but I already had it on, and couldn't be arsed to switch my laptop on when all I was doing was checking emails and writing this. So. Here we are.
It turns out I worked two days this week when I needn't have. But nobody told me they were optional! (they're especially optional because I'm volunteering, and therefore not getting paid. I'm kind of mad about it, but on the other hand, there's been days where I've not been able to come in, so I guess it evens out?)
I spent Xmas day and Boxing day with my brother, sister-in-law, and nephew. It was really nice, except my nephew is so full of beans, and he'd got a bit stir crazy. So on Boxing day, me and my sister-in-law took him out for a run round the park in town. We were going to visit the aquarium there, but it was closed (and will be for the foreseeable future, sadly). So we just did a circuit of the park. I saw lots of dogs, and got to fuss someone's puppy (who wanted to come with us), and also my brother's boss' dogs.
I got some Xmas money, and have spent some of it on different card packs (for drawing on), and two sketchbooks. One is an a4 Winsor and Newton that was half price (so I thought I'd be an idiot not to buy it), and the other is a 20x20cm Seawhite hardback that was only five quid. I've had square sketchbooks before (mum got me two a few years ago), but I'm still not sure what I make of them. I will get back to you after I'm done with this one.
I also spent some of yesterday swatching paints. I have some that are student quality watercolours (as opposed to whatever the level below that is that I've been using for the last three years) that were mum's, so I thought why the heck not? They are so pigmented it's ludicrous. I mean, I thought the ones I had were okay, but they were nothing in comparison to these. I also swatched some gouache paints, because I want to learn how to use those (I wish I'd done it years ago, but that's a story for another time; this entry feels like it's long enough already).

In end of year stuff, most of what I have to say is that this year sucked ass. I started it feeling like utter shite, and I don't think that feeling improved much.
The two big things that happened are that Jinny cat died in March, and then my mum died in September. So I spent a lot of this year crying. On the other hand, I did get Jazz cat in April, and she's a lovely cat, and as mad as a box of frogs. I also got a voluntary job, and all the people I work with are great, so that's good.
I hope 2019 is a better year, but I almost always hope for this anyway. I've got a whole bunch of things planned, like updating my Etsy shop, and a few other bits and pieces.
I hope you are all well and having a lovely time, whatever you're doing :)
