i'll hold it in my hands and cry
Yesterday, before I went to work, I watched a documentary series on Youtube called Diggin' In The Carts, which is primarily about chiptunes and Japanese game composers (I say primarily, because it takes a swerve during the episode about Final Fantasy/after that, and there's stuff about games that don't use chiptunes, like FFVII, Metal Gear Solid, and Tekken).
I found it really interesting, although I wish there had been closed captioning on all the episodes (I think four of the six were captioned), as I can't understand Japanese very well at all, and the people who were talking weren't subbed otherwise.
I learnt that Nobuo Uematsu had no formal training in how to compose music, and that he finds it difficult to read scores, even to this day! I also learnt that Keiichi Okabe worked on some of the later Tekken games, which is probably of no interest to anyone but me.
Anyway, it was a good use of an hour and a half, and I wouldn't have even known it existed it, if it weren't for some random tweet about zines I saw going on months ago at this point.
