you have foreseen this

I had to take the cat to the vet yesterday, and that was An Experience, because I was worried she would realise what was going on, and hide under the sideboard where I can't reach her. And then I would've had to ring the vet and cancel the appointment because whoops no cat. Oh, and I thought I would sleep/had slept through my alarm, and so I awoke while it was still dark, and didn't settle again until it did go off. So obviously THAT WAS FUN.

Anyway, it all went OK, except for the part where the appointment had been made too early, and the vet needed a nurse to give her a hand, and one wasn't in yet. So I had to leave Jinny there for a bit, and come back and get her. But it was OK, because it was just for a blood test (to check how she's doing on the thyroid medication) and blood pressure.

The vet suggested that radioactive iodine treatment might be a thing, which yeah, it might and, even though we've got insurance for her, it would still cost £1800. And also she'd have to be at the place that does it for five days minimum (because it makes the cat radioactive! o_o ), and then she'd have to be confined to one room in for up to four weeks when she came home. Because radioactivity! That's all well and good, but I don't want to have her go away because I'll miss her, and also we just don't have anywhere in the house where we could confine her except maybe the bathroom (and that's not really an option for several reasons).

(I mean yeah, we have to pay for her meds (though I think the insurance will cover that to some degree, too) but it's going well for now. I think the vet thought I was doing worse at medicating than I actually was).

Ooh, and the vet weighed her, and she's put half of the weight she'd lost back on! \o/

The vet rang today with Jinny's results. Her thyroid levels are back within normal range, though still at the high end, but the vet said we'll see how it goes before she thinks about changing the dosage. Which is fine by me. I had suspected it might not be too painful because, really, Jinny's levels weren't that high to begin with (I thought they were, but apparently not!)

So thus endeth the saga with the cat, for the time being.

In other news, I'm now cat sitting, and my sittee would have you believe that nobody loves him, ever. I also discovered today that he likes having his cheeks scritched, and he contorted himself over my arm so I could this for him.

I started re-reading Howl's Moving Castle because it's been forever since I last read it, and I wasn't in the mood to read anything new. I'm reading it while I'm cat sitting, though obviously the cat has other ideas about that.

Anyway, I'm not very far in, but I am enjoying it so far, which is good.

Yeah, between the exposing the humans in the house to extra radiation (= extra cancer risk), and the $$$$, I would be SERIOUSLY reluctant to take that option.

I'm glad Jinny seems to be doing better!
