The bassoon is the oboe's biiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiig brother, so it's an easy mistake to make. :)

(If I ever hit the lottery, I would buy a bassoon and take lessons just for shits and giggles. I love the sound of that instrument. But even your basic student one is $5k.)

That's just for the student ones! XD The professional ones are like $25k+ For some reason, the double reed instruments (oboe, bassoon, and English horn) are super expensive.
