my poor soul, all bruised passivity
I went to the comics thing! And I didn't die!
I was exhausted after I went, because socialising is always draining for me, but I am happy that I did go. I was super nervous and anxious, but it turns out so is everyone else! And, proving that it's a small world, the guy who started/organises the group is married to one of the ladies I know at the local library.
There's no meeting next month, since they have organised a small convention at one of the local pubs, but I am certainly going to go and hang out with these guys again. I liked them a lot. And I didn't have to throw my latte over anyone, because nobody was elitist or wanky about comics, and that was great. (Mind you, not that we really talked about comics - some people had some comics with them - we talked about art and pens and college courses instead. And we drew, which was the best part. Though now I feel like I really need to up my art game because everyone's stuff was amazing).
I got told I draw like a children's illustrator, which is interesting. (I do love the sort of style of children's illustration, but it's never something I've deliberately tried for). The person who said it then followed it with "Do you know how difficult that is??" in awed tones and I kind of shrugged and was like, that's just the way I draw (and hoped I didn't come off as flippant).
Also, I ended up getting off the bus to look at the aquarium, as it didn't really rain much while I was out. It's still there! However, I didn't get in to have a look, as the doors were locked. There's a sign on the door that says, "Open daily 10am - 4pm". Except Sundays, it would seem.
Then I walked through the park into town, and I really enjoyed that (I haven't walked into town that way for a long time - if I walk through the park, usually it's in the opposite direction). Not for the first time, I imagined kaiju (or humongous mecha) rampaging across it, because that amuses me. (Which is kind of funny in itself, since I'm not into kaiju films AT ALL).

Children's illustrators do beautiful stuff!

They do! I've liked a lot of children's illustrators for a looooong time, and I seem to be following a few on the interwebs now. I guess the influence must have rubbed off!
