I know they say an Englishman's home is his castle, but I didn't want an actual moat.
Also I'm only partly English, so.
Anyway, the water stopped running off the hillside sometime during the night. All I know is I woke up at some point and it was eerily quiet*. There's less water on the road, too (though there's still a lot coming down), and it's 75% clearer than it was this time yesterday.
Aaaand the shopping delivery's been cancelled because of "adverse weather conditions". I can only assume they don't know what part of town we're in, and are hedging their bets. (I don't think the road between us and the nearest supermarket is flooded, but I don't know because I haven't looked). To be fair, though, this is the first time it's been cancelled in years, since I think the last time was when it snowed really badly at Xmas 2010.

In happier news, I got some awesome things for Xmas off my mum! (My bro and sister in law have not been to visit yet because they're ill/weather, probably). She got me two wind up dinosaurs that you build yourself, for example. I've made the T. rex, but I can't yet get him mobile (I think his motor is cheap and not very functional). I also have a Stegosaurus :D
There is also a book of Egyptian pharaohs which makes me squee (there's also the hieroglyphs book because OF COURSE I need more of those). I told mum if I didn't get this for Xmas, and had to wait for my birthday there'd be mayhem. And so. Here it is, five inches thick and full of dead people. (Only up to the end of the XX dynasty, but EH I WILL SURVIVE).
There's other stuff as well, but dinosaurs and ancient Egypt are two of my very favourite things :)

I hope you guys had a good Xmas (or Friday, if you don't celebrate).

*I got a cold for Xmas! So when I haven't been sleeping the sleep of the dead, I've been waking every so often because I'm too warm. Which was what happened last night.
