since i have acquired some people
Quick about for new friends/readers/people who have forgotten who I am:
> my name is Jae, and I am ancient (okay I'm lying, I'm almost in my mid thirties). I have an awful sense of humour.
> I have depression and sometimes I talk about it, but I always cut stuff if I think it needs/it's triggery.
> I swear a lot. If this bothers you, I will try to tone it down.
> Relatedly: I call people "dude" and "man" a lot and I do not do this because I think you are male. It just means I like you. But if you would rather I didn't, then please say so, and I will stop doing it.
> I like music. ALL MUSIC. Though the way to my heart is probably via super dramatic minor key stuff played on synths. Probably.
> video games I like: Final Fantasy (I've played most of them, except for the MMOs - XII is my fave); Silent Hill; Resident Evil; Shin Megami Tensei (DDS is my fave); Mass Effect; I also play the Dragon Age games, but am not as fannish about them as the other games I play (I'll give you reasons if you ask :) ), though I do like them.
> comics I like: HELLBLAZER; X-Men; Batman; Sandman; Mars; Jojo's Bizarre Adventure; Cucumber Quest; Namesake; Paranatural
> TV I like: Adventure Time; Avatar: The Last Airbender; FARSCAPE (SHOW OF MY HEART); Red Dwarf, The Prisoner; Puella Magi Madoka Magica
> films I like: Back to the Future; Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure; Jurassic Park; Stargate; Event Horizon; Blade Runner; LotR trilogy; The Matrix trilogy; Labyrinth
> I also like languages. I can speak French (badly) and Welsh (very badly), and am learning German. I understand some spoken Japanese/read it when written in romaji (also badly - my attempts at kanji are hideous). Ideally, I'd like to learn ALL THE LANGUAGES, but somehow I don't think they'd fit in my brain :(
> I don't often grant access because honestly I don't friends lock that often any more (I used to lock my writing, but I'm trying not to do that any more. Because honestly, I like sharing things!)
> this is pretty much the essentials, but if you want to know anything else, just ask! :)
> (I'm thinking maybe I should make this a sticky entry...)

Any favourites? I'm a big fan of synths since I first heard Vangelis, Kitaro, and Jean-Michel Jarre. And then I fell in love with Laserdance. *g*
If you want to practice your German, you're welcome to comment on my journal in German, too.

I don't know Kitaro or Laserdance, but I'm guessing they are also synth bands/artists?
Oh, danke! (Just a warning, my German is rubbish principally because I've had next to no practice with native speakers, so massive apologies in advance).

Kitaro is more meditative - Morning Prayer was the first I've ever heard of him, and I fell in love immediately.
Don't worry...it's the same with me and some of my languages, too. What's left of my French and my Japanese is barely worth talking about.

Oh gosh, I haven't listen to much of Morning Prayer as I write this, but it very much reminds me of some of the music in Yume Nikki (well, the beginning did). Bet my dad would've liked this (it's very much in the vein of the synth stuff he did listen to). Good to chill out to, too.
ETA: I don't know if you have heard of Isao Tomita, but he did amazing things with synths. I love his version of Debussy's Clair de Lune (he also did a version of Holst's Planets Suite which is amazing, but hard to find). I don't know if he did original stuff, though, because I've only ever heard his classical covers.
I know, I learnt French at school, and just assumed I'd retain knowledge of it for all time without needing to practice but here I am exty years later, and I can do very little with it.

Not yet, but I'm going to try looking him up on YouTube. But classical covers sound right up my alley. I own a CD with synth versions of all the popular classics, and my favourite was the new interpretation of Bach's Toccata in d Minor.

Also, muuusic. I don't really do synth stuff but that is more because i have no idea where I would start with it. I just wind up poking about bandcamp and 8tracks and yes. Ho hum, ho hum.

Maybe I will put together a small synth rec post or something. (Not making any definite promises, but maybe).

My mom just curses right back. We have an agreement that after I turned like...fifteen, I could say what I liked and she wouldn't call me on it as long as I don't do it in front of the wee kidlets.
Ooh, yes. I would happily accept a rec-post but I totally understand if your brain does not jive with it. It happens.

I love to rec music (nearly as much as I love listening to it), so hopefully it will turn up eventually.
