i'm gonna be a blitzball when i grow up!
We had zero trick-or-treaters on Halloween, which was fine by me because I was in a stinking mood anyway, and I forgot to get any treats. I was actually going to bake biscuits like I did last year, but I somehow didn't manage that. Maybe it was last year's biscuits put them off? *shrugs* (I thought they were OK, but maybe the kids felt short-changed, I dunno). Anyway, ultimately I'm not bothered because it comes and goes like this anyway, and they didn't deserve the wrath of my bad mood.

This year is the first that I don't feel like I want to do NaNo! Usually I do, but I have no ideas. This year, I have an idea, but I don't want to do it. I would have done the Abominations story, had I still been working on that but man, that shit is so depressing (it really doesn't end well), and I'm not having a brilliant year, so really I don't want to touch it right now. That's why I put it to one side, for some later date.
(My current idea is something I want to flesh out for an eventual webcomic, but working on it is like pulling teeth. I suppose because, unlike the abomination story, I don't really have a solid idea of where it's going or even what the point is. It'll come to me, eventually).
~
At the moment, I am playing FFX because I wanted to play something I was familiar with, and also Auron. (I also wanted to hook the PS2 up to the living room TV because of having borrowed Breath of Fire from Sam, and also Waffles is currently playing Okami, and I love that game like cake).
I loaded up the game where I'm placing everyone on different paths around the sphere grid, and it's been so long that I have totally forgotten where I was supposed to be going (it's been FIVE YEARS since I beat X. So it's a few years at least since this as my old lj tells me four years ago I was doing the Yuna Solo run which I still haven't finished, and I started this one afterwards).
What I am doing so far is: swapping Yuna and Tidus, swapping Lulu and Wakka (Wakka is hideously terrible black mage, so I've heard, so this may make me lol a lot), putting Auron on Tidus' path (for speed reasons), and god knows what I'm doing with Kimahri. I put him on Rikku's path, but I just realised I always do that in normal gameplay. I should put Rikku on Auron's path for the hell of it, I think (and also a fair swap?? I might move Auron to her section of the grid once I get a friend sphere anyway because that will give him more speed).
While looking for gumpf about what the hell to do vis a vis switching paths (I couldn't find the exact thing within two pages of google, so I made my own mind up), I saw someone said they picked out which characters they'd use for a playthrough of X, and stick to those three all the way through. Which. I can't do that. I do it with XII because I don't like two of the characters, but I suddenly realised I like everyone in X (well, OK, I am mostly lukewarm about Tidus, but I don't actively dislike him the way I do Vaan, for example). So I just swap everyone in and out like you're supposed to (I love that mechanic to pieces).
(Now listening an Undub of FFX and omg Japanese voice cues (aka not surprised that Auron sounds like that). Also not keen on Wakka's original voice but eh. I'm used to his American one, I suppose...?)

I think it's silly to choose only 3 characters! I love the constant switching of the characters, it's my favorite bit of the battle system! It was always a fun little challenge to try to get everyone in for a move in every single battle.

I know! What was that guy thinking?? I love the mechanic for switching them in and out, and that everyone has different types of enemies they can deal with (except Yuna, but she's not meant to). I think that and the way the sphere grid works is the reason I've kept going back to it (I think this is my fifth time?? Whatever, there are a lot of save files on my memory card :D )

Yuna's is the easiest, then Auron's (they're the only two I've ever got, how can you tell), but the others? FUCK THAT NOISE. Pretty much everyone agrees that the requirements to get them are ridiculous, so nobody ever does. And you don't need them to beat the game (which is a freaking relief).

Hahaha! Hm, I think I heard Wakka's was really tough? I'll tell you this, I was absolutely shit at the sports game you had to play. But, if you knew me in RL, that's not surprising at all. XD
Did you play X-2? My inner five-year-old loved that game for the outfits, ngl. LOL

Yeah, Wakka's involves bloody Blitzball and. No. Apparently there are people who can win the mandatory match, but they're not me (I can bring it to a draw, which surprises me, but I can't be bothered learning the rules to win it).
OH MAN YES I loved X-2! And yeah, I think the dresspheres are great! I think it's a wonderful spin on the job system. I need to play it again; I only did it once five years ago so what I remember about any of it is minimal :(

Ugh, man. The outfits are so pretty! X3 I'm like that kid from Despicable Me, "IT'S SO FLUFFY!"

Well I love costumes and clothing design anyway (not that you could tell from looking at me, though!), and I love games where alternate costumes are given so X2 was like...dang, this is amazing! (I'm looking forward to getting my hands on Lightning Returns for pretty much the same reasons :D ) I thought it was cool the way each costume varied depending on who was wearing it and that they weren't all variations of stripperific just because it was three ladies. (People diss this game like whoa, but they don't stop to think about reasonable things like that, do they?)

And no, some do not stop to think about reasonable things like that.

I'm surprised I'm doing NaNo myself =/ I'm like you, I have no ideas this year like at all but ended up signing up on it anyway because if nothing else, I have some writing projects to do for the RPG I'm in that keep getting set to the side, including a thread I was doing by myself for a bit - I got that out of the way first finally and now on to some of the projects that kind of got tossed aside but I really feel I need to write out to add some depth to my characters x_X; It's not necessarily the way NaNo wants you to do it but I feel writing out different characters' individual adventures (and they all connect to one plot my friend and I put together) is in every way like writing out chapters to one story. So if it gets me 50,000 words and doesn't decrease my site activity, then I say it's a win-win!

I reckon what you're doing is fair game! I think I saw someone on my flist mention that there's an RPG writing version of NaNo (it might even have been you, in which case sorry, but my brain is mush). So, y'know, point is, totally valid! I actually like the way NaNo's sprouted off into other stuff besides novel writing (e.g.
Sorry to cut in...
I'm kinda cutting in now LOL
Psh, it's ok. ;)

Have you considered looking at PSL comms? Sometimes I think comms can be a little daunting as they usually have activity rules and such (which is why I can't really RP in any that I'm not running myself). PSLs give you a little more room to breathe, imo.

Re: Psh, it's ok. ;)
- I apologize in advance if I explain some RP terms you're already aware of or knowledgeable on. However, since I don't know what you already know...
- PSL stands for Private Storyline. They differ from RPGs in that instead of a group of people, you have two players playing two (or more) characters.
- A PSL Comm is like an RPG Ad Comm, you go there looking for a PSL partner, or to post/advertise some ideas you want to do and see if anyone bites.
There are also GPSLs (Group PSLs), but those kind of puzzle me as that just seems like a regular RPG to me only more exclusive? IDK. The advantages I like of PSLs is you don't have to follow a set of rules specific to an RPG (like activity checks, for example), you and your partner can do whatever you like, and honestly what I think is half the best part: World building if you're doing something from scratch.Re: Psh, it's ok. ;)
