This Reddit link on critique of FFX is interesting.
I found it while looking for stuff about swapping sphere grid paths.

Anyway, Meanwhile, In Ivalice!
Obviously, I got a OMGWTF ENTITE as soon as I stepped back onto the Ozmone Plain, because of course I did. I don't even know what to google for to find out the mechanics for their being generated (I know I said I didn't really want to know, but I actually sort of do. I kind of find stuff like this interesting).
And, of course, I ran away.
I also saw a lightning elemental with protect cast on it, and since we are still not capable of dealing with those, never mind their big brothers, I again ran away.
Then it was mostly passing through the Mosphoran Highwaste to the Salikawood to the Phon Coast. Nothing of note happened, except getting pwned by the Humbabas at the Salikawood end of the Highwaste (because Behemoth type enemies, of course).
Which is where I think I found a glitch.
You know how items are faster to use, and there was a whole thing about how it was more convenient to use potions than cast Cure? In this playthrough, I have had Basch using items up to this point with no problems. After this fight, where everyone is getting owned, the items glitch on Basch, and on him only. What happens is, he'll use an item, as either told by me or his gambit set up and then...just stand around doing nothing unless he's attacked, or I input a command to make him do something.
I don't think I've ever seen this before, and I didn't know it existed. But then again, on past playthroughs, I tend to use magic for heals when it's available (usually everyone ends up with at least one heal spell, because it's easier to spam heals than rely on one character).
I ran out of Phoenix Downs at some point, so had to give Balthier Raise as well as Cura.
I tried not to give Basch magic for once, which was annoying because he does pretty decent heals. I don't know what his base magic stat is,but I don't think it's too bad internet says it's the worst in the game, but he starts at a higher level than Balthier? But then again, he joins at a higher level than Balthier, so I suppose it's relative to that.
He also remained on swords for the entire game, because I can never decide what weapons to give him otherwise. If I ever get to play The Zodiac Age, that will all change, however (because I believe you're tied to whatever weapons your job can use?)
And then, of course, The Phon Coast and HOLY BALTHIER BACKSTORY DUMP, BATMAN.
I like the way it's told. Like, he tells you things were shitty and all that, but at no point is he all, oh, poor widdle me, don't you feel sympathy for me, nudge nudge. Like, I do feel sympathy for him to some degree (in spite of his general nastiness), but I think I feel it because I'm not being told I should? If that makes sense?
And suddenly everything drops into place with regard to his knowledge about the Empire, and nethicite, and all the rest of it.
After that, I teleported back to Nalbina, so I could do the whole route again for XP/LP. I think I've finally learnt from past mistakes! (ha ha ha) (I hate grinding, but also I don't like being wasted by random mooks).
I have a note here that says: I AM NOT GOING TO GET OWNED BY SENTIENT VEGETABLES
*nervous laughter*
Then I spent two hours running around the Tchita Uplands, because I couldn't remember where the entrance to the Sochen Cave Palace was. Turns out I have a complete and utter inability to spot gaping holes in the sides of cliffs.
And then I spent a lot of time getting beaten up by Imps and Georgimeras because this game and its RNG hate me (though not as much as The Last Remnant's RNG, and I am grateful for that).
Remember that note, not three paragraphs away? YEAH. Three goes to beat the Mandragoras, because it's a gimmicky miniboss battle that is somehow worse than the Elder Wyrm, yet I always seem to forget that. FUN TIMES.
After that is Ahriman, which took me two goes, though I can't remember the general gist of the fight because I didn't write it down, because I was an ill idiot at the time.
Which brings us nicely to Old Archades, which means Draklor Laboratories next! OH YAY.

I love Phon Coast! It has some of my favorite music in the game, and was my place of choice for grinding for that reason.
The Mandragora fight is annoying. I forget how many tries it took me, but I recall it wasn't easy by any means.
I just listened to the FFXII soundtrack the other day, which put me in the mood to play it again. But if I do, I want to play the Zodiac Age and I lack the money to get it right now, woe.

Heh, The Phon Coast music is one of my least faves from the soundtrack. I like the area, though (but I love all the areas in XII).
Yeah, the reason I started the original version again was because I wanted to play The Zodiac Age, and I don't have it or a PS4.
