there and back again
So in Final Fantasy XII, onward to the Stilshrine!
I went back to the Henne Mines to do some levelling, but still got caught by a Yeti plus elemental combo on the way to the Stilshrine.
I. Elementals are like prep for Entites, I think. They're all set level 25, and seem to be aggro'd in the same way. Yet they're difficult to beat even when you're the same level/slightly above them. I suppose this would work better for me if I actually used elemental magic. But I don't, and part of that is the gambits. I love the gambit system, but I don't feel like there's enough slots for what I want to do - added to which there aren't enough elemental spells to cover all weaknesses, since some things are weak to earth and wind, and those are two spells you never get (unless you have Hashmal or Chaos available, and who t f is going to seek out Chaos, unless you really really want all twelve espers?? I have tried for all twelve espers, in the past, but never even got as far as getting to Chaos).
I hate the dragon aevises with a burning passion. But I'm starting to think aevises are my nemesises in general, given how much trouble that one in FFV gave me, back in the day.
I learnt that Blood Gigases are extremely susceptible to Sap. Not that it really matters, since I was taking them down in seconds, but I think I had a weapon that had "On Hit: Sap", and it was triggering every single time.
Guess which idiot spent half an hour running around the shrine trying to remember what to do before FINALLY spotting on the minimap that a previously closed door was now open? OH YEAH. THAT WOULD BE ME.
I always think that Vinuskar is the colossus in the centre of the shrine for some reason? It's not, and I beat it first time, so. Yeah.
I also beat Mateus in one go, although that was somewhat more difficult. Probably because of a lack of MP healing items. I get they're meant to be rare, but the lack of ethers in this game is ridiculous! I also know they're so rare because you can heal fully at save points, but you can also do that in FFX! And ethers are available in shops (I think?) in that game!
(Talking of FFX, since I've got the remaster, I'm going to have to play that at some point soon. And also FFX-2, so it can actually give me my new game save!*)
I decided to walk back to Bur-Omisace for the XP/LP, rather than teleport. Mainly because I hate having to grind for levels at a later date (my worst experience of this being FFI, where I spent six hours doing just that because I was under-levelled at the end of the game).
I finally upgraded Penelo's armour, and gave her mystic armour for the first time in the history of forever (I usually give her light armour). Now she's healing for 1000+HP at level 29, which is AMAZING. I know it's down to her amazing magic stat (she has the highest base stat in the game), but also mystic armour boosts that, so yaaaay!
I also intend to get Fran and Balthier mystic armour, as I am speccing them as a green mage and time mage respectively.
I am also thinking about replaying some of the earlier FFs now that I have my PS2 set up again. There's a bunch I haven't beaten. I did make a note about liveblogging them like this, but I don't think that's going to happen. I want to play games and talk about them, but I'm not entirely sure this is the best way to do it.
Me: I can totally deal with this level 25 ice elemental now I am level 29!
Ice elemental: WANNA BET.
In case you didn't hear me first time, Bergan, FUCK YOU AND THE SHIP YOU FLEW IN ON.
I beat him in one go with a Quickening chain of 15 hits, which is pretty good for me!
I don't really have a lot to say here. I don't like Bergan. I do like the theory I read(?) years ago that maybe he could be a werewolf. Some of the judges have redeeming qualities, he doesn't, so I don't feel bad about killing him.
And then, off to Archades we go!

*The FFX-2 PS2 disc I have has a massive scratch on it, so while you can complete the game, it won't let you do something in order to be able to make the new game save. I can't remember, because it's a Very Long Time since I played it.
