one way or another
I don't know if anyone else will find this interesting apart from me, and maybe
dingsi, but there is a reason why I feel nauseous when playing FPSes! (And also Kingdom Hearts - one of the reasons I stopped playing that was the menu transitions made me feel queasy).
It also can occur in games that aren't first person POV, because of the speed the camera moves. And it's more common than I thought it was (like I thought I was the odd one out, but I'm not).
It's because of something called Simulator Syndrome. It's because you're sitting still, but you're looking at something that's moving. Your brain interprets this as something wrong with your senses, therefore you must have ingested a poison, and must rid yourself of it, hence the nausea. (It's also the complete opposite of motion sickness, which occurs when you're in a moving vehicle (obviously) but are looking at something static).
Fixes include all the usual fixes for nausea (mints, ginger, etc), but also include keeping the lights on when you play; and widening the field of view (if possible, as a lot of games are set with a narrower than actual FOV). You can also try those wrist bands that cure seasickness, apparently.

So remember how Thursday was a shitty day? Part of what was shitty about it was that Jinny spent the day hiding in mum's room, and refusing to eat much. She came out in the evening, but wasn't very talkative (and usually she talks quite a lot).
On Friday morning, she did not come to wake me up so I could feed her. This is unusual, but not concerning. But she hadn't eaten overnight, which usually she does.
Anyway, this continued, though on Sunday she seemed to be a bit more chirpy. Then on Monday morning, I came downstairs, and found her curled up on my chair. I touched her to wake her up, and she didn't move and I honestly thought she was dead. Then I touched her tail, and she lifted her head up a little bit, and I've never been so relieved in my life.
I rang the vet, which I'd planned to do anyway, because I was worried about her not eating so well. The vet had a look at her, and took some blood to see what was wrong. She also said Jinny was underweight, and had lost nearly two pounds in eighteen months, which was a worry (though I told her it was gradual, which was true).
I got the results back yesterday, and it turns out that Jinny has an overactive thyroid. PHEW. At least that is fixable. Expensive, but fixable. I was so worried that it was going to be cancer, or that the vet was going to tell me that there was nothing that could be done, and that Jinny would have to be put down. Which would obviously have been awful. But that didn't happen!
I have to give Jinny medication every day, in the form of a gel I rub into her ear (I decided this would be easier than tablets, since she hates being held, or having her mouth looked at. But she loves having ear scritches, and doesn't mind me touching her ears).
I'm just. I'm really relieved. I'm so glad it's something that can be treated. I think part of the reason she hid away on Thursday was that apparently cats with overactive thyroids are heat sensitive, and it was horribly hot that day. So I think it made her feel unwell, and that lasted a few days after.
The vet gave me a copy of Jinny's blood test results, and all her different levels are all good, it's just the thyroid that's wacky. And it's not even that high (it's twice as high as the top acceptable level), and combined with the fact that the vet says the goitre she has isn't that big, makes me think we caught it pretty early on. Which is also a relief.

I am enjoying Skyrim more!
This is good, because I thought Oblivion was toss!
I decided to run everywhere because scenery and also levels (ha, me levelling up, wth?) and also harvesting every plant in sight that can be harvested. This turned out to be a semi-bad decision because Alduin is raising dragons now (I killed my first one yesterday, I was very scared because OMG WTF DRAGON). And he flew overhead and decided to raise one right in front on me.
(I'm always scared when I see him, even though I assume he's going to be the final boss, because I'm all "shhiiitttt, WHAT IF HE LANDS AND TARGETS ME?????!!!"* He hasn't done so far).
I actually saw the raising animation this time (I was hiding behind a tree last time, hoping Alduin wouldn't notice me), and it is pretty effin' cool. Then halfway through the fight, the dragon decided that some Talmor justicars needed roasting instead of me, and they actually killed it for me! Then they were all attitude and I had to kill them but whatever. Now I've got one more dragon soul than I have magic words so yay?
Also I decided to run to Solitude in the middle of the night (as you do), which is when this dragon fight occurred, but as I was on the road towards Rorikstead, the Headless Horseman passed by me and I squealed quite loudly when he did. I saw him from a way off, too, and thought it was going to be more trouble, but nope. I know you can follow him to somewhere, but I thought since I knew roughly what time of day he was in that location (around 10/11pm), I could do that another night.
I didn't think I was going to like this game, but what do I know, eh?

*Because he is also a dragon and he's effin' huge and you can see him from miles away and omg do not want.
