take a deep breath, deep breath
I started the story mode in P4A. There is way more text than I was expecting, way less fighting, and about as much Captain Obvious repetition as there was in P4 (well, there is in Yu's route. Yukiko's and what I've done of Yosuke's weren't so bad).
I sort of understand that this is for people who've never heard of Persona 4 before, but uuuggghhh omg *drags hands down face* I don't know if this is the case with all the routes, or if I just happened to get the worst one because I picked Yu first (of the four, I thought I should start with him, since my favourite character (Kanji) isn't available yet).
I don't know how I feel about the different voice actors at the moment (Teddie's, I don't mind, as his voice sounds pretty much the same. I'm not sold on Chie's yet, though. Kanji's is good).
It's a good game for playing when I don't feel like I have very much brain (like today and yesterday), although I'm not sure how much I took in because GAH WORDS. (I knew what it was (sort of) going to be like going in, but I honestly wasn't expecting so many words). I did do some of the tutorials but ugh I'm having trouble making the double taps on the directional pad work properly so I just decided button mashing was easier (and it is. Though I may live to regret this???)
It is TOTALLY throwing me that Yu says stuff now, and that his VA is Johnny Young Bosch because if I'm not looking at the screen, I'm thinking it's Rush speaking because obviously it's not that long since I beat The Last Remnant (though when I first started that, it made me think about Adachi a lot so ???? *shrugs*)
I got Yukiko's joke ending by accident. I didn't think it was funny, though. I just found it really cringe-worthy and embarrassing. Also I sort of thought she was reduced to a one-trait character, somewhat like Chie has been (in Yukiko's case it's all the "whoops I'm such a bad cook!" and I am just so fed up of that trope anyway). Eventually I'll go through it again and get the not-joke ending.
It's OK, I guess? I mean the Rashomon thing is one of my catnips (I suppose it's not strictly Rashomon style, but there are some differences/some things don't exactly match up, and that's enough for me. Also I can't think of any other way to describe it). I'm just...not particularly enthused by it right now. (I still want to check out Ultimax, eventually, but that is because I have a friend who is obsessed with one of the characters... I hope it's a bit more interesting!)
(One thing I DO really like, is the way the characters change on the street on the main menu. And also that the music changes. And that when I loaded it for the first time it played me the dormitory music from the P3 soundtrack).
Oh well, am going to persist for the time being. At least having bought it cheap second-hand, I don't feel like I've wasted my money.

It is also like BlazBlue in that it has really, really stupid joke/bad endings for many of the story paths.
If you're just looking to do story mode, iirc there's a literal button-mashing mechanic available -- I think you can just hammer X, and it'll carry out a certain combo chain for that character? I know I abused it pretty thoroughly when I was going through some of the later story mode paths, for characters I didn't quite have a handle on.
Yu talking was _really unnerving_ for me too. Like, at least in the game, his sharing a VA with Adachi was just a funny piece of trivia -- in the anime and Ultimax, well...

Ahhh, OK. I'm glad I avoided Kanji's bad ending (and will be doing the same for Chie).
Yes! Hammering X is literally the only combo I know, and it gets me through :D
