Looking for something else, found this thread on NeoGAF, which pleased me immensely and is absolutely true:

Final Fantasy XII is still a gorgeous game (you may not want to read the whole thread, but it's nice that nine years after this game was released, people other than me and a handful of people I know still think it's amazing).

(the more I think about it, the more I think XII is actually my fave FF now. I still love IV a lot but I spend WAY more time thinking about XII).

FFXII is one of my favourites in the series! In part because there's so much extra content, and I'm a level grinder at heart, so I have plenty of reasons to just wander around and kill things for money and items.

I've played it five times, but only beat it for the first time last year ¬_¬ I've never managed to beat all the espers or finish off all the hunts (I keep telling myself I'm saving Yiazmat up for one day, but I haven't done it yet). Also I don't know about you, but I love the amount of detail in the story (though the political machinations of the actual plot aren't my favourite thing), and the space in the world - I love running about all the time (and actually will do that over using the warp crystals/airship).
