I am currently reading High School Debut, which is a shoujo manga, and nowhere near as bad as the title makes it sound. It's about a girl called Haruna, who wants a boyfriend (but is clueless as to how to go about it), and so asks a boy called Yoh to teach her about things boys like so she can get one. It sounds awful, but it's not (imho), but it's very, very fluffy in comparison to, say, Mars.
I whizzed through about eight or so chapters this morning/dinner time, then made myself stop, or I would've finished the whole thing in one day (it's only fifteen collected volumes, and I'm not a slow reader).
I decided to read it because Haruna, looked cute (she is! I want to squish her SO BADLY) and also because I liked the sound of her character (she's not quite as I imagined, but I do like her. Also she's defacto clumsy and it's never once treated as "cute"). I am not taken with Koh's design, but eh, I will live.
I know how it ends up, but I actually kind of wanted Haruna to end up with Fumi (one of Yoh's friends), because they're really cute together. The manga even leads you in that direction for a while, but then Yoh's sister decides to be a bitch, and that she wants Fumi for herself (she doesn't; she just wants to upset Haruna because she's jealous of all the attention she's getting from Yoh).
I actually don't like Asami (Yoh's sister) because she's all friendly with Haruna to her face, but then not very nice about her when she's not around, and I don't like people who are like that in real life.
I do like Haruna's best friend, Mami, though. She seems really sensible, and has Haruna's best interests in mind when she gives her advice (also they're totally on the softball team together, and I think this is great! Even if there are stupid comments like when Yoh tells Haruna she's too muscly because she does sports - I just kind of glazed over that because yeah, whatever).
After this, I might read Princess Jellyfish. I'm not decided yet.
