I bought some video games today! (nobody is surprised by this, right?)
Lightning Returns was finally at a price where I'd decided I'd spring for it, and then I was idly looking along, and I saw Nier. Waffles really wants me to play this, so I nabbed it before someone else could. I also got Enslaved: Odyssey to the West, which I do not have great hopes for, but which I've wanted to play since my first days of owning an Xbox, and I like that Tripitaka is a woman? (My knowledge of the Monkey myth is tiny, despite owning a translation of Journey to the West. What I know, I know from Saiyuki (yeah, yeah), and the occasional puttering around the internet).
It's funny about Nier, though.
The last time I checked my recs on Amazon, they were reccing it to me because I'd bought/owned some game other people also had. I considered buying it from there, because I'd never seen a copy in real life (not even when it was new, and I remember it coming out). I had been looking for a used copy, but hadn't found one. And then I sort of forgot about it.
I went into CEX today, just for a look around, as I always do when I'm in Burnley. I was determined that there were no games I wanted to buy (usually I go in with an idea of what I might spring for, if I have the cash, but often come away with nothing). As I said above, I nabbed Lightning Returns (which I want to play in spite of having not ever beaten FFXIII-2), and was continuing along in the alphabet, and there it was. One lone copy, face outwards.
So of course I grabbed it because I knew if I dithered, it'd be gone. (Ha ha, yeah right, this copy of Enslaved has been there for over a month. I know this because I vaguely considered buying it last time I was in there. But that may be because 360s are SO last season and/or nobody wants to play this game).
According to Waffles, it will rip my heart out and stomp all over it.
Well, OK, I think I'm used to the media I consume doing that by now...
I am sad to see the Mass Effect games selling for a pittance, but on the other hand, I lol at the Halo ones selling for exactly the same amount of cash.
I was also amused to see that a copy of Final Fantasy: 4 Heroes of Light sells, used, at £18. I bought my copy new, for less than that, I think? (it's a long time since it came out so I don't know any more). Usually, I get annoyed at the prices of some used games, but I can understand when it's a rare game (I've never seen another copy of that anywhere, for example), not so much when it's a popular game/made by a popular company (e.g. Kingdom Hearts 1 and 2 are still ridiculous prices because a) Squeenix/Disney, b) franchise).

Interested to see what you think of Enslaved. No idea about the story/gameplay, but I really like the environments in that game. Last time I was back in the States I remember seeing second hand copies for really cheap and being tempted, but I didn't bite.

I know absolutely nothing about Enslaved, but scenery porn sounds good to me!

I only got two endings deep and then watched/read an LP of the latter two, but yes, it is definitely a thing worth playing. The gameplay is mostly enjoyable, the music is universally stellar, and as the above commenter noted, it's wonderfully atmospheric. I hope you enjoy it!
I have mixed-to-negative feelings about Lightning Returns, but it's definitely worth trying out if you were able to get it on the cheap. You should really watch a vid of FFXIII-2's endgame or read a summary of the plot before hopping into LR, though! Otherwise things might not make a lot of sense.
I understand the sad feelings about the ME titles going for a pittance these days. I hear the entire trilogy was on sale for five-and-some-change on the PSN a short while ago, actually. It happens, though.

I managed to get LR for £8 (about $10??) used, so it's not like I busted out for a new copy. I have reservations about certain parts of it (the time limit for starters, some of Lightning's clothing options + jiggle physics as well) buuut I want to finish the trilogy, so this is the only way. I have an FFXIII-2 save that's near the end game, but I haven't played for two years, so I'll probably be completely lost by the ending of that anyway! ;) (that said, I know the MAJOR spoiler about the end, but not a lot else).
*sighs sadly* I know. I suppose it's just because I love ME so much. I'd probably be screaming about used prices if they were high, though, so I guess I can't win, heh.

Funny you should mention Lightning Returns, I brought Final Fantasy XIII-2 just today. Weirdly this was entirely because I'd been watching a Let's Play of Final Fantasy XIII and although they weren't particularly complimentary I came away thinking "I should probably check that sequel out".

I hope you enjoy it when you get to playing it!

(Also I read the other comments and now I really want to play Nier (* ̄m ̄) )

It does sound interesting, from what I read on TVT, and saw of my friend's playthrough.
