OMFG WHY IS WINDOWS SUCH A PIECE OF SHIT.
Like, I'm TRYING to make a backup disc in case I break it somehow, and I've been at this for hours now, and no backup has been made. First it tried to tell me to format my external HD (no jose, that's my backup drive), and all advice on the internet said it was failing, which is it isn't. Ubuntu sees it and uses it fine (and had been doing this morning). Then when I tried to write system recovery disks, it told me to format the DVDs I was writing to, which. WHAT. These are DVD-Rs. I can't format them.
(I also can't use a memory stick, since mine is too small at 8Gb, and I don't have the luxury of just popping out to get a newer, bigger one. Aside from the fact that I don't have the cash).
I would probably have Ubuntu installed by now if Windows wasn't making this so fucking difficult.
ETA: I am honestly ready to break stuff because this should have been fairly easy, and it isn't.
ETA the second: a bit calmer now I've had something to eat. I even know why Windows won't access my external HD - because it's formatted in FAT32, and Win 8 likes the other formatting system I can't remember, but want to call NTSC. Still can't make a backup of Windows, though. Just have to hope nothing goes horribly wrong.

To be fair this is why I leave this stuff to Johnathan. Or I just don't care if half my shit disappears into non-existence |D;;; I view it as my spiritual practice of letting go. Or try to, idk, we'll see what happens when it happens to me.

I wish I had someone I could pass it over to sometimes, but I'm tech support in our house :( and I'm not even really that techy (sometimes I even wonder why I use Linux because a lot of the terminal stuff scares the crap out of me in case I break it).
