Ich kann ein bisschen deutsch sprechen!
(please, as always, correcting my mistakes and telling me what I did wrong is welcome. I think the sentence above is correct, but neither me nor mum were entirely sure (it's been over fifty years since she did any German!) )
I'm learning through two websites, primarily. One is called Memrise, which was recommended to me by my friend Annette (she's learning Icelandic on there). The other one is called Duolingo, and a lot of people on Tumblr use that one. Of the two, I prefer Memrise right now.
Anyway, although I don't feel like I'm learning anything, I think I am. I've made a langauge tumblr for myself (
ginnunn), and I'm going to practice writing in German on there. I try to talk to mum in German when I can (and she responds in it, if she can). So, es ist gut! (long may it continue!)

I find it somewhere in between, to be honest. Some days, it's easy because there are words that are similar in look and meaning to English words, but some days it's harder because of things like remembering genders for words, and conjugating verbs. But it gets easier with practice :)
I think the Old English will be helpful with German, to be honest - the languages have more in common at that point than they do now.
How do you find Duolingo for learning French? I'm thinking of refreshing my knowledge after I've got some German down, so wonder if it'll be more helpful to use there than Memrise.

The Duolingo has been nice. I'm familiar with Spanish, an Italic language like French, so I can fumble around with the immersive experience. Since you know French it should help you with remembering the basics, I believe. The intricacies of the language, on the other hand, you might want to look somewhere else.

Oh yeah, I know Duolingo can't give me everything I need and, at the moment, revision of even basics is all I'm after. I've dug out my old school work, so I've got that to look through, too, and am going to get some grammar books and stuff because honestly it galls me that I call French my second language and I've forgotten so much of it.
