I did, however, forget my best conversation this week.

I had to talk to a lady about the fact that I'm now self-employed, and that that will affect the amount of housing benefit my mum gets, because she's the one who pays the rent.

Her: So you live in the same house?
Me: Yup.
Her: But you're not a dependant? You are over eighteen, are you?
Me: (biting my cheek not start laughing) I'm nearly thirty-one.

Her: ...oh...

The kneejerk reactions to 'why would anyone over 18 live with their parents' always crack me up.

I know. I mean, I know I'm kind of a geek stereotype, but if she'd asked for a list of reasons why I was still at home given my age, I'd've told her (top most being my ma needs help around the house).

Also I did think maybe she couldn't tell my age from looking at me, but you're likely more right than I am.

Weirdly, these days, all I ever seem to get is "don't you miss your mom?", so I don't really know how to win anymore. No, I like living on my own, do I look like I'm 16 or something? (The answer is 'yes'.)

Geek stereotypes unite, really. Bucking tradition to do ... whatever! /laugh
