"anyway, i'm smarter than you!"

I don't want to talk about the shit show that was the election.

So instead I'm going to talk about video games because it is what I do best?

I am playing The Zodiac Age, and I have just got to Raithwall's Tomb, which amuses me no end, because that's where I picked up the liveblog this time last year.

So there are a lot of improvements to the game, since it was overhauled and rebalanced. I like the improvements with the graphics, although hair and fur textures suffer, which is a shame. I also like that we now get heat shimmer in hot places/objects, and depth of field! (The camera will focus on the party leader, and anyone running behind is out of focus, for example). I hella appreciate the shine on metal, and the dull reflections on leather.

I like the overlay map, although sometimes I find it harder to see against light backgrounds. Although I do keep forgetting that you have to click the left stick to make it go away again, and not circle. I do find that occasionally I still need the full map, which is now mapped the touchpad (I find that a difficult reach with my thumb, but according one of my work colleagues, I have small hands???)

I also like that this version of the game solves a few minor problems I had with the original:

1) items available to cure statuses before you encounter that status (e.g. Belias is the first time you encounter the oil status - in the original, you had no way of fixing it until after that fight. Now, the item to remove it has been available for a while).

2) the maps in the Ogir-/Nam-Yensa sandsea are right there when you go in! No running around lost for hours and running headfirst into an entite! \o/

As y'all already know, I adore the remastered soundtrack (and you can switch between it and the original, which is SO COOL). I'm not sure how I feel about the new tracks (the one that plays on the Nam-Yensa Sandsea feels very John Williams Star Wars to me, and it seems like it has a pretty short loop, too, which I found irritating).

You can also put the Japanese voice acting on if you want!! I haven't done that yet, but I will (I have heard some of the JP voices, but it will be interesting to play the entire game with them).

I do not like the job system BUT I do like how the licence boards are laid out, and how it's now easier to get to certain augments and skills (Basch, Fran, and Balthier had their first Quickenings before I even fought the judges in front of Ashe's cell on the Leviathan this time around which has NEVER happened before). I am glad that you can assign two jobs to each character, and that it happens after you've fought Belias.

I also don't like some of the name changes to spells/items, but that's just because I'm not used to it.

And you can set guests as your party leader (as well as alter their gambits, which will come in extremely handy for the Pharos *eyes Reddas*). I currently have Vossler in the lead, so that all the enemies beat him up (he has the highest HP and he deserves it :p )

Anyway, I think that's all I have to say for now, but I'm sure I'll think of something else at a later date.
