Yes! Sort of.
In general, I prefer to play as female characters, because there were games in my teenage life where that was either the default (Jill of the Jungle) or a choice (Resident Evil 1/2). But also because the default for many, many games is male, so it's good if I can choose not to be that if I don't want.
If romance is an option, and I'm playing a woman, generally I'll go with a het relationship, but that's only because either the same sex romanceable options don't appeal to me, or the ones I like are unromanceable (*cough*Samara*cough). Sometimes I don't romance anyone! (Shocking, I know, but at least one of my Shepards did that, and my Cadash in DA:I also). If playing as a man, I'll generally tend towards a gay relationship because of the same reason for not romancing women when playing one. What you can take from this is that I'm exceedingly picky about women, which is true in real life, too.
As for appearance, I tend to make masculine-looking women, and occasionally feminine-looking men (although usually just kind of generically man-looking men, which is unhelpful, I know). They're tall, if height is a given option, because I like tall people. They'll tend to be athletically muscular, if this is an option. (I am totally thinking about my Dragon's Dogma character here; There is a picture of her face here. She towers over pretty much everybody in the game and, because of the way romance works/doesn't work, she's the only lady I have who has had a same sex relationship). No noodle arms in the House of J, if I can help it!
Generally, I'll pick bright red/ludicrous colours for hair, unless I'm being sensible/stupid hair colours aren't an option. My characters generally have any colour but brown eyes, although I seem to be going through a phase right now of giving everyone various shades of blue.
If I can, I will not play as a human. Although in some cases, not playing as a human essentially equals "human with pointy ears", or "human but with horns", sooo...*shrugs* (this is why I'm sort of mad at Bioware with Andromeda, because I thought new galaxy equalled a non-human lead and, um, nope, not the case. But that's more on me than them, I guess).
So I suppose, what all this means in a tl;dr format is that I tend to pick tall, muscular women, with red hair and blue eyes to play in vidyas. Which, I didn't think I had a default, but apparently I do!
