I think it could well be that it's down to those things. It's boring to watch someone doing that grinding and it's pretty boring to read "well then I killed demons till I reached level 32 and I could take on this boss with ease!" I mean I liked the first two I read, but I'd never encountered the games before then, so I didn't know what I was getting into (heh).
