I think the problem with Tokyopop was what happened with a lot of the anime/manga localizers during the anime boom of the 2000s: I think they bit off more then they could chew. They licensed so many titles, bringing over a lot of junk, and did it very quickly. The big sellers back in the day probably kept them going, but when sales started to fall I think their carelessness caught up with them.
