I don't care if it's trope pile-up or not, Pacific Rim was one of my favourite movies! It was like I stepped backwards into the 80's-90's-ish area where even if the movies were basically all the same we all seemed to enjoy them because THEY WERE AWESOME.
That and I insist that Michael Bay must watch that movie and learn from it. Movie about giant, fighting robots should = movie about giant, fighting robots. Not movie = we're just using the giant, fighting robots to lure you into the theatre so we can bore you for 2 hours with Shia LaBeouf's shitty love story with the hot chick who's only there to be hot. And then one giant, fighting robot fight happens near the end just so we can still call it "Transformers".
