I have figured out how to fix Homecoming's plot so the game didn't happen!

So what fucks up Shepard's Glen's protection from all the weirdness is that Josh dies instead of Alex, right?

Right.

What's bugged me is that his parents then packed him off to a mental hospital, when it's clear via plot, etc., that they don't actually give a shit about him. Why didn't they just go ahead and kill him as planned? I mean, yeah, they lost the son they still loved, but...why derail their earlier plans? In fact, would that not have given them more impetus to kill Alex?

But yeah, if they'd just gone ahead and killed him anyway, problem solved, game does not exist! Cheers all round!

Also I'd like to know how come the mental hospital let Alex go when he is obviously still suffering from the delusion that he's a soldier. I mean yeah, I know the answer is plot, buuuuuut...seems like a rather large hole to me, to be honest. I suppose the other answer is that it's so it doesn't ruin our immersion, and that we are then shocked to discover that actually Alex isn't what he thinks/says he is.

Of course, it's possible that he could've escaped, if the security in American hospitals is as lax as in some UK ones, but that's never addressed. And no, the beginning of the game doesn't count, because that's a nightmare he's having, as is made perfectly clear.

There is another problem I have with the game (aside from the fact that it ripped off the film no end, as the LPer points out (also dang, haven't watched the film in a while. Might have to get on that) ) that is violence related. I don't see why gore has to equal scary (although, admittedly it does and that's why I don't like it) - but there are ways the problem I have could have been done that would have worked just as well and probably been as creepy.

Finally, now I know that Brian Bloom voiced Alex, I keep wondering what Varric would make of Silent Hill :D
