I just watched the trailer for Constantine (I mean the NBC show that's apparently coming out in autumn, not the godawful movie because FUCK NO IT BURNS US).
My reaction, throughout was a cross between, "What the hell is that accent?"*, "NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO", and hiding my head in my hands.
Though I see that NBC has followed the time honoured tradition of up-rooting John to wherever the writer comes from (Somewhere in America in this case). (I am not forgetting that he did spend a bit of time traipsing around the US in Swamp Thing, and this is supposed to be set then). (Also WELL DONE TRAILER on TOTALLY dropping the ball re: Astra. It would've been more interesting if that HADN'T been in the trailer, but then again Trailers Always Spoil). (ALSO ALSO WHY IS MANNY AN ANGEL. I'M PRETTY SURE HE ISN'T ONE IN THE COMICS).
I do realise that I am never going to be pleased. Ever. I will give the actor points for at least looking more like John than Keanu Reeves ever did (still not my ideal casting, but all my ideals are in their forties so yeah).
(My apologies to anyone who's just started following me and has been greeted with this, but Hellblazer is my most favourite comic, and I HAVE FEELINGS, OK).

In slightly related news, mum has expressed desire to check out Hellblazer, but she doesn't really read comics** and I don't own all of them *hands*. But she's liked characters in books who are essentially John Constantine with the serial numbers filed off, so I'm pretty sure she'd like the comics. If only she read them.

*The actor is no good at covering up the fact that he's Welsh, and he was ALL OVER THE PLACE accent-wise. I shouldn't have said I hoped he was good at accents, because NO NO NO NO NO.
**She has read a couple of comics, and I bought her the Outlander comic and she read that, so really IDEK????

Try your mother with the original Gaiman Books of Magic - that's what introduced me to John. And then the Delaney run (if not the relevant Swamp Thing comics).

The Books of Magic is where I met John first, too :D I think mum has read that, but it was a LONG time ago. Maybe a reread is in order ;) I don't have any of the early comics, sadly (last time I was buying I wanted the Andy Diggle stuff to find out what happened with The Laughing Magician and all that, and now I don't have disposable cash :( ). I want them, though (I want the entire run (plus the relevant Swamp Things), but I don't know if DC is still shafting us re: Pail Jenkins and I have no idea what's actually about now having not been in a comics shop for a few years now...)
